Lousy Smarch weather
  • Rashford and Martial both scored
  • James came on and scored on his debut
  • AWB and Maguire played really well on their debut
  • Scored 4
  • Clean sheet
  • Greenwood came on
And this was all against Chelsea. What more could you ask for?

Absolute quality, blew them away in the second half.
Last season we'd have conceded a couple in that first half and struggled to recover, Maguire and AWB have changed our side completely.
Fantastic to see James score, I hope/think he'll be a fan favourite before long, McTominay carrying him around celebrating was brilliant.

Well, that was unexpected and probably undeserved. We've no midfield, city and the muck will be cricket scores :nervous:

Weird game, thought we were shite for long periods of each half. Mourinho-esque victory in that sense. Chelsea couldn’t live with us on the counter though, they’re in for a long long season. Couldn’t be much happier by the end, especially with the goalscorers.

Not as great as the outcome suggests. Love the versatility of our front 4-5 and love the energy AWB brings (MOTM for me). Good start.

Rubbish first half
Excellent second half

Flattering scoreline but defence looks a lot more assured with maguire and wan bissaka.

We looked very solid at the back. Really exciting to see quick attacking play too.

Great game. Pogba and Maguire were immense. Rashford and Martial really stepped up in the second half as well. Great cross by Pereira as well for the second goal.

For all the talk about high pressing, it's clear that pace on the break is going to be our biggest strength this season.

First half was worrying, midfield is still a concern but you can't ask for a better result on the opening day than that. Or really, you can't ask for a better result than that against Chelsea no matter when. Some great counter-attacking.

It's only the first game of the season, but damn that was promising compared to what we've been used to!

What a result did not expect that. Once the first goal went in we settled down brilliant second half performance. All the signings look quality James is going to be brilliant in attack and a debut goal awesome day!

Chelsea were better in the first half yet we were up 1-0. We were much better in the second half and scored 3 more. i'm sure many will still be moaning though...

Some real positives but we still have no control of the ball really. It needs fixing.

Delighted with that!
Rashford and Martial scoring. Pogba assisting. Maguire and Wan-Bissaka bossing the defence. James coming on and getting a goal. Clean sheet!

Great start!

Didn't expect that, especially after the first half. Great result. Still need an improvement in midfield, both Scott and Andreas looked poor today.

Not a bad auld start.

Defense looked good, attacked looked pacey. Not convinced by midfield or whether we'll have the quality to break down teams who sit deep. Still, that's a problem for another day.

Very clinical, hopefully we can become more dominant with the ball, however our main deficiency over the last few seasons our defence looked very rock solid today.

That second half was extremely enjoyable. AWB and Maguire both look like they will be excellent signings, and some of our countering and link up play was excellent. Fair play to Pogba, he made some ridiculous decisions in the first half but he was quality in the second.

Somehow everything ended up going right. New signings looking great, Rashford and Martial both getting goals, James goal on his debut

enjoyed that a lot

poor first half, sloppy and far too open - second half much better and some good incisive football

if we had a midfield capable of controlling a game we'd get top 4 no problem

First clean sheet since Feb, right?

Poor first half. But the change of tactics around the 55th minute or so changed the game for us. We started to easily handle Chelsea's attack and could exploit the space behind them. Very good second half from everyone.

Pereira had a great assist, but I struggle to see him nailing a consistent place in the team. Probably the worst of our players out there. Concerning.
Fortunately we have options to rotate in Pereira’s spot and tactically should be able to pick the best player there for each game. Not every single players needs to be a lock in first XI.

were people really expecting us to spank Chelsea like the scousers and city humped newly promoted cannon fodder and west ham respectively? Great confidence boosting result, defence looking more solid which looks to have given confidence to DDG. Good start.

Honest assessement without (much of) the emotions..

Still some ways to go, our passing was wayward at times, Chelsea were just worse. We are better suited to play on the counter than slow passing build-up. New signings all look fantastic. Hopefully we keep the momentum and team spirit. Onwards!

Great result. However, not sure if it was because Chelsea was lacking quality or because we were really that good. I believe the consensus is that Chelsea will struggle this season. In pre-season, they were shipping in a lot of goals and we just continued a patterned they have been familiar with. So this was the best time to play them. Looking forward to Wolves next week. However, as I stated before, United will have the best defense in the league. De Gea looks like he was his confidence back, Shaw is our players of season last season, no one is getting past AWB and Maguire, Linderlof looks like a great pairing.
