So a draw against a top four rival where we were the better side and had the better chances and everyone is in meltdown and shitting the bed?

This place is hard to take sometimes, you must really struggle with day to day life if a draw against Chelsea makes you this depressed.

Story of Ole. Some good results. Many shocking ones (today was ok nothing more)

At the end of the day he obviously hasn't what it takes to make us winning trophies. Might take a few years until he'll be sacked though.
Obviously you think building a winning team takes one season.

Thought we played well, didn't look unduly threatened, were the better team and should have won.
It was a must not lose game, we didn't lose, and we actually played well.
Not quite sure why it's doom and gloom. I'm happy with that.

Can understand why Ole didn’t go with split strikers as it didn’t work out at all in the last game against them. A bit surprised Telles wasn’t on the bench as it could’ve been an interesting last half hour with Cavani to aim for with those crosses.

Not hugely surprised with the result considering we’ve conceded 9 in total from our last two home games. We were bound to be a bit conservative...Fred and Mctominay were there to protect the back four which is what they are excellent at but the flip side is it hindered us going forward a bit. No big deal though, still another 33 games to go.

We are in 15th place right now. Heck how on earth can Manchester United go and defend like that at OT against a Chelsea team and a manager like Lampard?
There are people who think that a point against chelsea is a good result. This is a terrible Chelsea side with a rookie manager. It's scandalous.

I agree with you, although I do have weird feelings about this game. Result, not too bad, as before the match I wouldn't have been surprised to see 3-0 to either team. However, it just felt as if we didn't have any massive ambitions to win in our set up and performance.

We were the better team and created more chances, whilst not playing great at all. Chelsea were very poor and boring. Just feels like an ok result , but disappointing given the performance of the two teams.

Chelsea came for a point and got it. There were there for the taking imo and maybe we should have been more braver. Saying all that we had chances although not much. If nothing defensively we were pretty good and better than vs Spurs :D

Subs were early but didnt change that much. Pogba kept the play going but didnt bring anything offensively and wasnt exactly dangerous. VDB should have came instead cause there's much more energy and purpose by him, Pogba played like he wants time to just pass.

Also instead of Mata maybe one of McT or Fred should have been subbed just so we can be a bit more offensive.

Cavani looks fit and doesn't look like he hasnt played in a while. I think he'll come good.

Any news on Telles?

Also lets not make anything out of Ole's smirk, he just shook Lampard's hand and gave him a smile.. Not anything deep about it.
Pogba did what was needed, he played a lot of one touch passes, kept the ball in rotation and spread a fair few balls over to AWB, who decided that he shouldn't cross as usual.
If Ole had brought Greenwood on earlier it would have worked a lot better but he seems to love his 80th minute desperation sub at the moment.

What is this we were unlucky to win story? We were lucky extremely lucky not to concede a penalty in the first half.

No I don't. I'm not going to explain all the reasons why Ole isn't made for this job again. Bernd
Been discussed to death already. Hope I'll he proved wrong but I very much doubt it. Seen zero progress against teams that sit deep. Still no real game plan or any attacking patterns in these games. These things don't take forever to implement in a team.

Boy, that was a tough watch. Seemed like a lot of nothingness. We were scared to lose, they wanted a clean sheet. Those 2 factors have never made for an entertaining game. We need some bottom feeder to try beat up on next. Oh wait...
I think the fear of losing was higher than the desire to win.

You people are weird. We played pretty well today against one if our main opponents, had our chances to win didn't take them. Is every non-win a catastrophe these days?
There's obviously a lot of naive entitlement in these parts - like we should just attack Chelsea with reckless abandon and steamroll them. Stealing Lampard's words, we need to be humble. Even SAF didn't go into big matches like that. We've struggled defensively and it was imperative to be solid. It's not a great result, but it's not terrible either.

That said, Bruno's stint on the right was a bit weird, and Dan James appears completely devoid of anything of substance these days.

Still the better team on the day though, if anyone deserved to get anything more than a point, it was us.

Btw with Kepa out of Chelsea's starting 11, the league just got a bit less entertaining :(

Having watched Utd for a lot of years, I think we have been spoiled a wee bit. Changed times definitely, we have never been scared of any team, especially at OT, bit different wth no crowd. I can understand Rash frustration as our transition from defence to attack can be laboured at times. Yes we have to move on from SAF era but I'm sure he would have been driving the team forward for 3 pts and definitely not happy with 1 irregardless of who the team was.

On a separate note the grappling and WWE that occurs at corners and the like does my head in, please stamp it out.

What I absolutely hate is that we have no players in the box. We try that wannabe tiki taka bullshit at the left corner but when it's actually time to put a ball into the box there's either no one at all or no more than one player in the box against 3 or 4 opponents. Drives me mad.

Time was, not so long ago, that United v Chelsea was a top of the table clash of title contenders......how the mighty have fallen!

In a season that looks wide open, the sides that have signed the PSG retirees look miles off offering a title challenge as expected.
Chelsea’s PSG retiree was arguably their best player and, along with the keeper, seems to have transformed their defence. It was their expensively assembled attack that massively under delivered.

Bruno was on the right a lot when Mata was on the pitch, but they were constantly interchanging. I don't believe Pogba did a good job when he came on. In fact, I feel he actually hurt the connection from midfield to attack because of his lack of movement. In the first half, both James and Rashford were recieving ample opportunites to attack the space one the flanks or in front of goal, Pogba coming on slowed the transition, not because of his on the ball play, but his lack of movement.

Poor starting selection but we were by far the better side and were denied by a couple of good saves. Chelsea were incredibly cowardly and for all their supposed attacking talent they have signed some rubbish (as I said). This won’t look a bad result if we win our next two games!

We were unlucky not to win today. Both managers clearly went in to disrupt each others games and it largely worked, but we had the better of it. With a bit of fortune we'd have gotten the goal and this thread would have a different tone.

People can give out all they want about how we should have attacked more, but it was the sort of game where that was just as likely to go badly for us as it was to go well.
The actual thing unfortunate was having Dan James in the attack, who can't target the goal, for some reason

My problem is the "draw is fine" approach. I don't recall such situations from the past. We were either fighting hard for a win, or just beaten by a better team.
Today was different, non ambitious. But I heard the conditions were Terrible and both managers just wanted to return without an injury.

We played well, created a couple of chances. We are full strength defensively and it shows, now attacking force is a different thing.

Maybe it was just me but did anyone think the game tonight was very much like the one under Moyes in 2013. If memory serves me right they played without a striker

I want be content with the result but it's so annoying that ole went back to the 4231 formation and showing blind faith in daniel james who is so clearly not good enough at this level, plus it's yet another game where I just don't see what the point was in signing van der beek, if he is seen as 3rd choice behind bruno and pogba.

Too many complaints around here. Defences were on top for both teams, that happens sometimes. We were unlucky not to snatch it late though.

We were decent in defence and midfield, toothless in attack. Greenwood should be in the team.

Maybe this was more like van gaal first contest with chelsea at OT. The moyes one was very shambolic performance.

It was fine.
No Martial, Greenwood apparently being disciplined for something. Cavani not match fit.. we were short up top anyway.

That + number of of fixtures + getting thrashed in the last home game explains our set up.

Ole will have to keep rotating. the fixture congestion is insane.

0-0 was 100% the fair result because no club wanted to win the match.
Pretty much this. Pulisic looked like the only player on the pitch trying to make stuff happen. Otherwise it was like watching paint dry. Although I think both managers will probably be happy to not concede.

It is not as if Chelsea defended for their lives. Their keeper made one great save and on the other hand we were very lucky not to concede a penalty. We are in 15th place and they are well above us so they can be happy with a point but not us who need the points. If we had won we would have moved up the table considerably while now we are stuck in the bottom half of the table.

You do know that we have a game in hand that would take us above them on points (if we win obviously)

I don't know if math is your strong point but they're 2 points above us and we have a game in hand, well above us is the biggest stretch I've seen all night.

Disappointed but I can understand why Ole was bit hesitant after the spanking we got in our last home game and fixture congestion but James inclusion was odd. We have VDB who hasn't played at all but still he went with James. Slight tweak to the system and we could have played with VDB in place of James

Its actually funny to read how some are confused with posters being unhappy after this draw, with lines like "people acting like we drew vs relegation fodder" . Think maybe thats their fecking point, our track record supposed to be good vs better teams.

We are a Chelsea family. My son's travel team was sponsored by Chelsea. When we all looked at the starting XI and saw McGuire, Shaw, and James...it was like Christmas. I'm sure the weather played a big role in the game for both teams.

If you pick absolutely fecking ridiculous line ups that everyone knows are going to be shit - you simply have to win. Simple as.

That Fergie did it just about often enough, doesn’t mean anyone else should get away with it.

Hopefully we learn from this.... quickly

Also “a draw against a top four rival ” at home isn’t a good result by default. I know we’re in new times and all that, but In the olden days of yore, the rule was a point away against a rival was a good result, with the hope/expectation that you could win your home tie.

This is a good point for them. A missed opportunity for us. Crowds or no.

Still not the worst result in the world, but we should call a poor game what it was.

This is something noone is talking about. Werner is class, not world class, but at least a good striker and he has shown it. Ziyech is in Donny's situation, hasn't been given much time and therefore its hard to judge. However, Havertz....literally offered nothing effective. Pulisic looked more dangerous to me than him...and since watching him from the start, i don't have a good feeling about his game. That's what scares me so much about spending this big quoted figures on unproven players in weaker leagues. It's one thing to have a player flop ( these days the prices make the risk too big), but look at Joao Felix and Ousmane Dembele, after the deal has been made, how can one logically say they were right to make that deal. Sancho worries me as well. We don't know how he would adapt to the premier league, haven't seen good signs from him internationally and he hasn't had enough champions league experience against top sides to make a judgement, yet 120m quote is being dropped on him.
Like you said, though, it's not just really young players or players who come from a weaker league. Greizman, Coutinho, Pogba, Hazard, Kepa... Every transfer is a risk, and if you get one right with a younger player than it just makes it better because you can get more years out of him (or resale value, if it matters to you). You just have to do your scouting and trust it.

Way too early about Havertz. He's so young and just arrived. If I remember correctly, Pulisic - who is older - took some time before he started to look good last season.

Forget about James being championship level, team selection, blah blah, the thing that winds me up is our home form. I'm not talking this season, I mean the last seven seasons. I've lost count of the teams that have come to Old Trafford and broken records of not winning at OT for 30, 40 or 50 years. OT is anything but a fortress of late. We need to start fast, go for teams from the off. Play your best team, not play players into form - that will come from substitutions.Get VdB starting with Bruno, Fred and Pogba. Take the game to teams from the off. All I see on here is worrying about defence. We've got a decent defence, we just play too passively.
