Post-match discussion

After watching that first half, I didn’t have much hope.

Glad to see an improved 2nd half and some actual appropriate subs by Amorim in getting Yoro off fairly early after his shocker.

Unexpected result at a very tough opponent. Get a win against a struggling West Ham at home next week and we could go on a bit of a run up to Christmas.

A good win to be fair. Tough place to go away and win, especially with their defensive record. Their fatigue probably played a part in the turnaround but we showd good character to come back.

Fair play to Zirkzee, I criticised him before the game but he looked better here and that was some finish to be fair.

Good to see Mount on the score sheet too. We need as many people as possible contributing to goals.

The penalty we gave away was a mind boggling decision from Yoro. Not a clue what he was hoping to achieve there. Looked to really impact him too so hopefully he bounces back from that soon.

And Martinez being back was a nice boost too.

I bet you're fun at parties
And you are in kindergarten, with childish, banal jabs like that

I watch games, take conclusions. "Fun" had nothing to do with the tortured win today

Yes they were tired but as the saying goes you can only play who's in front of you. If Yoro didn't give away the penalty they didn't look much like scoring. Attack is obviously an issue so I'll take set piece United for now. Cunha hopefully back soon and the Butcher is back... What's not to like?

The same nothing "had to win after embarrassing loss" game that was horrible in every way, except the important full 3 points. It wouldn't have mattered if we played 3-at-the-back or 4-3-3, under Amorim or Ten Hag or Ole or whomever. It was just a random strike of smoothness from Zirkzee, who had aweful game otherwise, and a well-taken free kick from Mount.

There is no trace of any improvement or progress

We were obviously very good in the second half. Silly to suggest otherwise.

Important win and from the 1-2 I think we were the better team. Palace didn't have too much chances anymore.

Frustrating to see a Casemiro dumb moment every match. I thought he wouldn't have one today, until the dying seconds.

Good to see Zirkzee grow into the game after his goal. And great to see Martinez back!
Case’s stupid foul was caused by a horrendus give away by Kobe. What has happened to that guy?

Dean Henderson celebrating like a clown in the first minute after that saved aged like milk didn't it. clown.

Great 3 points, hopefully 6 more against West Ham/Wolves.

First half was shocking, just a continuation of the Everton match it felt like, but yet Palace didn't seem very good or threatening. Second half much better, specially after the first goal.

Well fought victory, but still lots of questions around our squad and the setup. But won't dwell on that, just happy we won.

I don't really think it was a 'decision'. Looked like he lost balance and inadvertently hit Mateta. Sh*t happens.

Its how you're evaluating the game. You're ignoring great goalkeeping moments that had a material impact on the game and only looking at the softer ones. You can water down most wins with that logic, just a weird way to look at it.
I am not watering down the win. Just pointing out the pivotal moments that helped us win.
There was a clear difference in the quality of play of our team after the 1st goal and even better after the 2nd. In my opinion, Henderson was at fault for the 1st goal so it definitely played a major role on how the game went on

You said the difference between the two teams was "two questionable moments from Henderson".

Putting aside that one of the goals was not really on him, youre probably being harsh on the first one too.

Henderson's very good goalkeeping moment in the first 45 seconds also had a material impact on how the game went on, why is that not part of your evaluation? And out of curiosity do you think the difference between us and Everton in the last game was questionable goalkeeping from Lammens for their goal?

I already said that maybe the 2nd was not as questionable but the first definitely was.
I dont blame a goalkeeper for every goal they conceede. But when the momentum of a game changes because a player (in this case Henderson) makes a "mistake (for lack of a better word) i do believe that made a difference.
Anyways, let's just agree to disagree and enjoy the win

So you counted the momentum of the big moment for first goal, but not for Casmiro's tap in in the 1st minute, which he palmed away and smothered.
This is why It think you watered down that win, lets just move on though.

Great response in the 2nd half, we played well and our press was causing palace problems.

A game of two halves between two teams who didn’t play well.

We were horrendous in the first half. We couldn’t string three passes together, and the overall quality was very poor. There was no connection between defence and attack, and we kept resorting to ineffective long balls. We lacked ideas, structure, and any real plan. To be honest, we were lucky to concede only one.

The second half was much better. This time it was Palace who couldn’t put three passes together. Maybe Thursday caught up with them, or maybe the goal impacted their morale. We took our two chances, and after that we looked far more composed.

Yoro made a mistake, but what worries me more is how much he seems to be struggling with progressive passing—it feels like that part of his game is regressing. Amad and Mbeumo also had poor games, similar to their displays against Everton. They both clearly missed Cunha, but they should offer much more.

We won, but it was far from convincing.

Oh well… never mind we might have lost. Might have won some previous games too. Football eh?

Full disclosure I am Amorim out. I don't think we are going anywhere.

Having said that, credit to him and the team for getting a great result. Performance wasn't great for me, but I don't think this was ever going to be a great performance. Early kickoff on Sunday against an excellent organized defense was always going to be tough. One of those were performance doesn't matter.

Palace first home defeat this season, maybe Thursdays game caught up with them but still its a superb 3 points after a strong second half for united.
Only 4 points of city in 2nd.

We are shy of a class midfielder and a flying LWB who can cross, sort that out and we could do actually do quite well.

In this PL any win is a good win, especially away against a team that had become something of a 'bogey team' for us.

Second only to Arsenal in goals from set pieces, can't be bad.

What a difference a cup of tea and a slice of orange at half time makes, or maybe a 'rocket' from Ruben (or does he not do those?)

Great to hear our travelling fans singing their hearts out getting us over the line....well done lads (and lassies).

You should probably take up a new hobby if you can't find any joy in this one.

Apart from the goal Zirkee was the worst player on the pitch for either side, can see how even Hojlund managed to keep him out of the team, great goal mind.

Terrible match we have zero threat from open play without Cunha and Sesko, yes Mbuemo and Amad offer something but when there is nothing on the left or in the centre, they are the only real danger and the opposition can overload them with no fear of the play being switched.

Our squad depth apart from defence is none existent, disappointed not to see Chido Obi, or Biancheri or anyone other than Lacey named on the bench, just as an option for the last 10 minutes, Lacey is unlikely to get a cameo as it would be at the expense on Mbuemo

Still a wins and win, we were definitely better 2nd half, how much was to do with them having played thursday and how much was our players knuckling down I don't know.

Perspective is a funny thing, before the 2 games would have expected a reverse of the results, just makes the Everton performance all the more frustrating in context.

Pressing is key, if we work as hard as the second half, we force errors and we make teams pay and get to top4 easily. If we don't we are quite ordinary team relying on individual brilliance we dont always have and are easy to score against.

Let's continue this intensity or leave Ruben. We have 5 subs which we can use and are stupid to sit back for so long. Those saying Amorim didnt adapt to the league actually are incorrect. Under pressure he went with more "pragmatic" style, which didn't always worked for us. Half-arsed pressing will never work in a top league.

Did anyone actually manage to see the game on TV? Could barely make out who was on which team with the awful shadow/glare.

We actually won having the majority of the possession as well.

Very good result and excellent second half. Didn't see it coming. Glad it did.
Basically Palace played a game on Thursday evening and had to.play 62 hours later. We had much longer to recover from our previous game. That was the reason we won they were not at the races. A win is a win though and some good performances

Yoro and Amad were poor but Shaw was immense and De Ligt, Casimero keeps on putting a shift in. Mount has to be in this team all the time.
