Crystal Palace 1:2 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I'm happy with the second half. Palace clearly did get tired and we punished them. Nice finish from Zirkzee, I think Rasmus would probably have scored that chance too on his stronger side. We need points and I have no problem whatsoever with scrappy wins. It shows the team is in a decent place but wtf was last Monday then? The team still has yet to fully click and it could go either way. If we lost that today we are stuck in 12th having played a game more than some teams around us... it's tight at the minute. Hopefully it fully clicks. I couldn't argue with buying more goals from somewhere and a competition for Casemiro

Semenyo and the young playmaker fella at Lille would be an amazing winter window

That’s a cracking result! Poor for nearly an hour but we’ll take that and move on. Need a much improved performance against West Ham on Thursday at home. We have to try and play at a decent level for closer to 90 minutes, though. Do that, and we’ll pick up loads more wins. Win on Thursday and things are looking good, at least points-wise.

Difference between the 1st and 2nd halves is telling, no? These bunch only apply themselves when they feel like it.

I was working so couldn’t watch the match. Great result, but it makes that pathetic performance and result against Everton all the more annoying.

Just cut out that positivity. Poor old Palace played a game 3 days ago, you know. Unheard of. Don’t know how we managed it for all these decades.
We had a much bigger and better squad than Palace have now, teams keep buying Palaces best players. They were obviously shattered today whilst we are Europe free

We improved, but surely Palace playing on Thursday played a part in them falling off in the second..

Very frustrating. And a rubbish draw versus a uselsss Spurs.

West Ham and Wolves next - 2 worst teams in the league by a mile. Let’s see if we mean business by getting the 6 points. To me the next 2 games will be the most telling.

Good result . much better in the 2nd half. But the performance last Monday still leaves a sour taste over everything , hard to have any confidence we can get can any consistency going.

Glad to have got out of there with the 3 points. Don’t really care about the performance if I’m honest. Not many teams will go to Palace and win this season - let’s just put that straight.

First half was terrible - we could hardly string a few passes together and Zirkzee couldn’t control the ball, never mind find a pass or shot.

Something happened in that dressing room at HT. We looked full of energy, closing them down quickly and when we had the ball we made to nice moves - moving it fast in forward areas.

Fair play to Zirkzee, after not having a sniff for the whole first half that was a cracking finish….. Mount’s goal was lovely too - really clever free kick.

Next two are very very winnable now…. No excuses to NOT pick up 9 out of 9 points from Palace, West Ham and Wolves!

We’ve turned a corner.

We are going to win the league.

Oh Sugar! I didn’t see that coming!

The Man Utd fan merry go round.

The question we need to ask?

Is top six good enough? No?

Is top 4?

Let’s enjoy the 1 loss in 7 win and stop over analysing every game. The season is long. The league is hard.

Awesome to pick up 3 points at Palace place.
Didn`t look good first half but we got going a bit in the second half.
Still supershaky overall and every game feels like a toss of a coin. Proper midtable team atm

Looking at the points difference between 5 and 15th place, most of the teams are midtable teams this season

Happy with the second half performance. Why can’t the team maintain the energy for 90 minutes? We have a week gap between each game this season. If we keep seeing performances like Everton and the first half today we aren’t going anywhere. And it’s such a basic trait to run.

We are definitely a better team with Mount in the lineup. He's the only player we have who is elite at pressing.

And now we have West Ham (without Paqueta), Wolves who have 2 points from 13 games - and Bournemouth who appeared to have fallen off a cliff after a good start

Is that the first time we’ve improved in the second half? Much more aggression and intent, good graft.

Because Crystal Palace played Thursday and fell off in the second half? Unfortunately an anomoly that won’t happen every game. Sure, we improved, but that was not the main reason.

Couldn't see a goal coming from anywhere.
Fair play to Bruno Mount and JZ as none of them really impressed up until their contributions.
Looks like we won this by staying in the game and showing a bit of character.
We're still a hard watch and I don't think the system/formation is helping.

Very happy or Zirkzee. Besides ther goal he controilled the ball well and had a lot of good touches. We are not going to win many with him as a striker, but good work today from him and a beautiful strike.

Great result. Needs to be followed up with wins against West Ham and Wolves.

Of course the one time I don't get up to watch an early match we win a tough away fixture after conceding first. Unreal.

Ridiculous angle to score from for Zirkzee.

Do us all a favour and enjoy a few more lie ins

We improved, but surely Palace playing on Thursday played a part in them falling off in the second..

Its a combination of our centre midfield and wide cb's with Zirkzee's inability to press. We can't do anything centrally without energy in this system. So Crystal Palace's frontline not having the energy to press in the 2nd half really helped us. I genuinely believe that despit the individual abilities of Bruno, Casemiro and Shaw. Their slow reaction times in covering ground really hurt us in this system.

Didn't Amorim say that they've set up training so it kinda mimics the workload of midweek games to prepare for next year where we should be in a European competition. I mean it's obviously not the same as actually playing a game midweek, but maybe they haven't hit the right balance given our team's lack of quality, especially in depth?

We didn’t improve compared to the Everton performance. Yes, the second half was better, but the first half was a carbon copy of last season. This system simply isn’t sustainable. For the entire first half, we were attacking with three isolated players against five defenders and “attacking” is generous. The front three were so far apart they couldn’t link up, and Palace looked threatening every time they broke forward.

This was a classic smash-and-grab. There’s been no tactical or coaching improvement driving better performances; the last couple of games have exposed that. The difference seems to be that we’ve bought slightly better players in Cunha and Šeško, not that the system itself has evolved.

Indeed, strange season, 4 points behind City at second place and 5 points ahead of Fulham at 15th. Get a feeling we will see more activity than usual in jan transfer window

I don't think that's just ourselves. The league is just extremely competitive and close.

Anyone who can win 3 or 4 matches completely changes their outlook.

Fair point. But on the other side of that, having lost a poor game a week before and 1-0 down at half time... In previous seasons we'd have lost today's game 2/3-0.

We fought back well in the 2nd half. Fair play to the players.

Now throw into the mix the late winner at Anfield having been pegged back then the equalisers at Forest and Spurs, it feels like we have a bit more about us. Onwards and upwards now.

Rope-a-dope.

Everyone loves an underdog, and today we were the game-raising cnuts. GRC FC, plus cameos from Individual Brilliance, are what brought home the points. Bruno's free kick/roll assist for Mount, Mount's finish, and Zirkzee's outta nowhere shot are what turned the tide.

Happy for Zirkzee. I think he will be moved on, sooner rather than later, which will be the best outcome for all. But for the meantime, it's good to see him redeem himself. Goals are all that really matter.

Licha back, wow. So good to see him play again. It must be excruciating as a professional to pick up one of these long term injuries that might actually spell the end of your career. But he's a fighter, so kudos.

Shaw MOTM.

If they had sacked Amorim at half time no one would have complained. Second half we actually tried to play. Maybe it was down to Palace legs being unable to run, or the fickle fate of cruel gods, who knows. Not sure anything changes from pre-match sentiment, although it's nice to not have the black cloud of another silly/stupid/embarrassing loss following us around all week.

Good reaction and very good result.
I'm sure there'll be more miserable matches, if we can bounce back and get a result it doesn't need to be the end of the world (for this season).

I watched the first half and was wondering what is going on, when will this team ever be a 'team', and value through shirt.

I then switched on with 30mins to go and we were winning 1-2, pleasantly surprised.

So well done, I take that result against s proper Palace unit in v good form. We looked comfortable managing that lead, which is a big deal for us.

I am their biggest critic, but well done Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee. I hope this can lead to some consistency in terms.of an improved performance.

Casimero is very important to us. I really, really (really) hope those players on the fringe of the first XI can step up and enjoy the challenge.

Great to see Martinez.

Just 3 points off 3rd place and 1 point off 5th. Could be worse

Was fuming when Amorim took Shaw off. Replacing a center back, who’s been great all game, with someone who hasn’t played for a year seemed utterly stupid. Happy that Palace were toothless and didn’t manage any serious pressure in the end.

Also, why are you allowed to retake a penalty after a double touch? Strange rule.
