Manchester United 3:2 Fulham

Post-match discussion

Only got to see added time, so annoyed to see Fulham make it 2-2 when I started to watch but delighted to get the win in the end.

Going by the stats not a great performance?
Was annoyed at the 9 mins initially. Then, that turned into a big positive.

Played well for the most part. Invited pressure later on, which was restating as should have put to bed earlier.

Good to see us overcoming some adversity.

Even when they brought it back to 2-2, I had the feeling we'd win it.
Not sure what this feeling is??

Ful were playing well spreading the play, casemiro sub changed the flow of the game, ugarte is a big step down, we should have had a penalty fulham defender went through mbeumo in the first half. Mbeumo worked hard but wasn't Involved enough. Great win

Teams have to stop scoring worldies against us eventually, dont they? Aston villa and now this, what the heck
There’s been 4 top corner goals against us I’m sure this season. We do seem to have a habit of allowing teams to get in those positions against us.

Sell Ugarte and sign Tuco Salamanca from Guadalajara if we need a destroyer. Tuco passes better
Underrated player, whenever I play eFootball, I use him as my main destroyer. He makes everything "tight" tight" tight". If we are to be more industrious, we can add his relative "Tio" as well.

Good game against a Fulham side who were clearly up for it.
Fulham have had some good result lately. That was a tough opening 3 games for Carrick, and to walk out with 9 points is something that I didn't think was possible.

3 best United players:

1) Casemiro
2) Bruno
3) Martinez

3 worst United players:

1) Maguire
2) Mbeumo
3) Ugarte (the game changed, when he came on for Casemiro)

This feels like correlation more than causation.

We scraped over the line.

Carrick needs to learn that you can't have a one-size-fits-all approach.

What works against City/Arsenal, won't necessarily work against Fulham.

Sesko should have started upfront, as a few of us pointed out pre-match - Carrick had to make a decision on Amad/Mbeumo.

Three points and, hopefully, a lesson learned.
That was boro fans criticism. One way of playing and didn't make changes. We can't complain at the moment though

Important 3 points. It was a decent performance but there are still lots of question marks with our play at times. We can’t keep letting teams push us back so deep.

On a positive note, I was glad to see Sesko on the score sheet and Mainoo trying to expand his passing range.

Really don't think Mbeumo over Sesko was the reason it was a difficult match today.

Hope Casemeiro is not injured. There is no one in this team now that can replace him.

Then we disagree.

It wasn't Mbeumo's fault, just a mistake from the manager - in my opinion.

I’m 50 and i was taken to my first United game by my grandad, he used to arrange all the U tied coach trips here and if there were kids that wanted to go and couldn’t, everyone chipped in to get the money for them to go….ensuring the next generation of United fan. He took me home and away everywhere and was a fanatic. My son s 11 and also a United fan, the poor sod has had to endure dross football and i felt so bad, i kept telling him that it will change and you will get to experience the joys that I did. And the last three games have been amazing for him, watching him get so excited and happy at the football (he does understand patterns of play and not simply we have to win everything) THAT was some game and i just hope that these players continue to take some pride in wearing the jersey. As for the game, Fulham are a bloody good side managed by a bloody good manager, we were never going to simply roll them over. A bad error from Maguire and wa worldie from Kevin put us under pressure for the last 20 minutes, but all in all everyone put a shift in and we deserved the win.And what a game it was.

Far from a perfect performance but we had plenty of quality on show in key moments and that made the difference. For this season's ambitions (top 4/5) that's enough. Long term we need more in the way of composure and control, especially in those spells where the opposition get their tails up, but that's a problem for the summer. For now I'm happy we seem to have the firepower to solve problems, even if they're sometimes of our own creation.

Hopefully that guy waiting for 5 wins in a row might get an hair cut this time.

Fulham were good, it’s a tough match out of the way. But we shouldn’t have been in the position we found ourselves in - Maguire (who has been great) really didn’t need to wipe Jiminez out for the pen. Their 2nd was fantastic, but Fulham had almost 100% possession after the pen, so an equaliser was coming no matter what.

However our response was perfect. Loved that goal by Sesko, reminded me of Berbatov’s goal vs Liverpool that time he got a hattrick.

Wasn’t our best performance but we deserved the victory up to 2-0. After that was 50/50 and we came out on top.

Surprised the ref blew to finish the match. Must be fuming Fulham didn’t make it 3-3.

Fulham are really good. Much better today than earlier in the season against us.
That was one of my thoughts about the match. They’re surprisingly a pretty good team and were probably a bit unlucky not to get a point but we won’t care.

It’d funny that the old Casemiro problem remains under Carrick. When he goes off the pitch inevitably after 60 mins we just seem to look a bit more vulnerable.

I don’t think we played very well all things considered but even 3rd place is not an impossibility now if Villa collapse.

Not sure what thread to post in. Is Berge usually that good?

Think Mbeumo was very good, could have had a couple (as could Sesko). Fulham are just a very good side, pushing for Europa places and capable of getting points against top teams. We put pressure on ourselves with Maguire's mistake and a lack of composure here and there from the back.

Great game of football, loads of twists and turns and most importantly the three points for United. Fulham played well all game, but I thought we were pretty good for the most part and deserved the win. We should have been high and dry at 2-0 and look it to kill the game off, it’s annoying that again we can’t control games and shut teams out after we have the lead, it’s obvious we need to invest in the middle of the park. But it was an excellent finish by the team, Bruno the decisive player as usual.

Probably give Casemiro MOTM, but Bruno, Cunha and Martinez were great too.

We need another midfielder to rotate or play alongside Mainoo and the DM. We needed that player in this game.

It wasn't his best game - he's brilliant as the most advanced player when countering, and equally good off the right in a game where we aren't reliant on quick breaks.

Fulham are a good side though, yes.

Onwards and upwards.

Fulham are really good. Much better today than earlier in the season against us.
Aye. I was surprised leading up to this everyone was giving it the “we’ll see how United do against Fulham up against compact defensive side” . They’re the total opposite and credit to silva. All their players are really comfortable on the ball and they commit bodies forward and are a lot more direct than city and arsenal who gave us opportunities to filter back into shape. Fulham didn’t do that:
I felt today was gonna be a massive struggle because of that.
So yeah glad we got out of there with the points.

I'm back to the point where a late draw pisses me off, instead of a few weeks back where a late loss would have zero affect on me. I'm also back to the point where I think we might get a winner and it won't be due to some desperate scramble.

If you can't find joy out of these last three games then frankly you need some anti-miserable cnut medication.

Nine points from three very tough games is to be applauded. I thought we were off the pace a bit today compared to the games against City and Arsenal. Bruno and Kobbie weren't great (apart from the third goal), we suffered when Casemiro went off (and he gave the manager no choice with that stupid yellow card) and we gave them far too much space.
