Very disjointed performance, we just cannot resist a half decent press at all. We get pushed into a corner then clip it long and lose the ball. Can see what he wants to do today which is a positive bit as others have said our squad is not good enough.

Disappointed with Garnacho today, he tried his best but playing in the middle looks wrong for him. You just don't get time in there and there were a few occasions he lost it when a good pass was on.

Zirkzee looked poor when he came on as well, really not sure he has what it takes.

Agree, this could be an uphill battle with these players.

No pace at the back, no legs in midfield, lack of ball retention, second to every ball and a forward line that cant hold the ball up.

Im not sure if it matters which formation we play, this team is going to struggle with it.

I really did think we would see a bit of a bounce, but no. I bet Ten Hag is sitting at home in Holland thinking "see, it wasn't me, its this team". Although he did have 2.5 years to get them fitter and he did sign over half of them!

I thought Bruno made some amazing 'key passes' as the stats call them. I think he can really shine under the system once its gets going. Eriksen and Casemiro was always going to be problem but it feels like he had to do it. I hope Mainoo and Ugartre can get a run together soon.

Do you think he opted to start with the "senior players" to at least give them first shot? Or just picked that team as most were not playing internationals?

I don't care who plays (from what we have available), what formation we have or who is the manager. We as Manchester United should be beating Ipswich town. The players are cowards. Safety first always. They don't belong here.

The lack of desire from the United squad was telling. Ipswich played us out of the park and probably should have won that match hadn't it been for Onana.

Amorim isn't going to get a tune out of the squad unless he's got some midfielders back. Mainoo's injury and the non availability of Ugarte for the first half meant that he's had to start with Eriksen and Casemiro (two guys who's legs are done).

Thats an indictment on the previous regime and nothing that's to do with Amorim.

He's identified the issues. Let's hope he can fix them well enough in this season so that we can go into the next season with the ready replacements.

Seems like he had to start with players that were around and fully fit to me. You know he likes Ugarte, but did nit start him. That idiot Le Seaux who does the USA broadcast did not seem to understand his Uruguay travels.

So true, especially Rashford who did not win a ball sent up to him. He has no fight or desire, it's strange, and I try to give him the benefit of the doubt. If Hojund played more it would have helped even if he's not in good form. He at least works and fights.

I think it'll take a while to tune and get the right combination of players on the pitch. The international break probably didn't help. The midfield, evans and Rashford up front made us look pretty pedestrian. New manager hasn't instantly changed the players and made them world beaters overnight which is no surprise.
It'll be a thin line between us climbing up the table and competing for europe and dropping points against anyone and everyone and finishing midtable. We dont have the quality to carry players.

Very true. Which is why he wont last under Amorim.

Amorim has Gyokeres and before him Paulinho. Both 6ft 2 and able to hold the ball up and bring the 10s into play.

Rashford's hold up play is non existent and we know he doesn't have the brain or touch to play as one of the 10s. First opportunity to sell and Amorim will have him gone.

Agree. I think he played at least 5 players he wouldnt play in the current best United XI.

I think the XI we finished with, plus Mainoo instead of Zirksee would be closer to the team he wants in the soft term.

To everyone that voted to sack Ten Hag..

Allow me to introduce the players who will eventually get Amorim the sack too
Ten Hag deserved to be sacked because he signed most of those players. Amorin needs two summer transfers to turn this around but if he's unable to do that then he will go the same way as ETH.

If under Amorim, we sign the duds ETH did, he will definitely get the sack. I don’t think anyone can’t turn these turds into gold - he’ll need to overhaul the team but he has to make sure he gets quality players in.

I'm surprised nowadays there's still a football coach believe Rashford can play ST or CF. I'm even more surprised Rashford scored a goal last night at that position.

It was a strange game - we looked good in the early 15 minutes maybe, then Ipswich took over. But our second half performance had some positives where we started taking control but were still pretty shit at creating chances.

We seem to be really good only when Bruno or Amad are on the ball. Having said that Amad needed to drive more at his opposing fullback. He did well for the goal and toward the end but other than that he kept playing safe balls.

It will take some time but I’m positive Amorim would deliver.

It is 100% the club telling these coaches to try and get a tune out of Rashford. He's their marketing cash cow.

The reality is though Mourinho was right about him.

We look so toothless. Rashford seems so happy with a point. I hope he is the first player Amorim gets rid of.

I noticed. Why the hell was he smiling so much at full time whilst talking to Lee Grant? He's not a serious footballer.

If some of these players don't even have the legs or cant carry out instructions, maybe it's time to take more academy players in... they would listen and try hard to follow the coach you would think.

We can't even get the new manager bounce

As was said many times before, some of these players are just not good enough even if the manager is changed.

I can't understand why they got rid of Ruud he looked promising. But give this new manager some time.

The only thing I'm giving them is it was a new set up. They stayed in it all game it wasn't pretty but they grew imo more into it 2nd half still not good enough to break down a team of that standard.
They stayed to structured yesterday all afraid of the Guy in charge to get dropped.
Imo Mazroui is wasted as a right CB in a 3 , so is Amad as a right sided wing back . Maybe it will get better . The other side is open for improvement as well looks like Shaw when fit as wing back Dalot drops to bench . Give it 10 games to see where it goes. Antony is fecked he's not getting game time.

Ruud and Ole were able to get the team going instantly but all I hear is excuses here for the so called experienced managers?

If Amorim was a United legend as a player then I reckon he'd lose a decent chunk of support on here. Anyway I will support him now that he's here, even though I wanted Ruud as the manager.

Not as many posters making excuses or indeed needing to make excuses for Ruud.

Bring back Ruud's attacking football, we dont have the right player for this hoof ball system.

Wow ... This place sometimes genuinely has less patience and perspective than a 2 year old. :nervous:

I would argue a 2 year old has better perspective than that. People wanting Ruud because he won twice against Leicester’s B team and PAOK. You can only laugh at that..

The more we play / train in this new system the better we will do. Thankfully we have training sessions with all the players this week not just those who didn't travel on international duty. Some of these players won't be part of this squad long term that's quite obvious and hopefully there's money to spend in January.

It looked like the strongest message from Ruben was, "take better care of the ball"".
No one dared to up the tempo and just looked for the safest option possible.
It will take time for Ruben to figure this team and league out. Just hope he has the resilience.

I think we improved with Ugarte and Bruno in the middle.
Case +Eriksen together in there just does not really work.

United under Amorim is going to be exactly the same United as it was under Ten Hag as it's mostly the same players. Until he gets his own players into the team that can actually carry out his instructions without looking disinterested, it's not going to change.

That’s not how it works though, is it. Amorim has time to integrate a different system and style of play, select different players and work with certain players that we know have great potential to improve them.

Of course he’ll bring his own players in when he can, but I can still see how he can improve the current ones we have.

You are too sensible to be on here.

Didn't expect a great deal in terms of cohesion and quality of football as it was a new formation and extremely limited time to train with it.

I was really disappointed though that under a new man, we were outrun, out fought, and out thought again for large spells in that game. Players looking a yard off the pace everywhere on the park, most losing individual battles, no hold up play to speak of from Rashford, Garnacho running with head down until he lost the ball, Eriksen and Casemiro giving the ball away cheaply under no pressure. It's really basic stuff that professional players should be doing without coaching, so was super disappointed about that.

It was disappointing but if he's having to rely on Evans/Casemiro/Eriksen as starters is it any surprise we look shite? One of those should be started, maybe two at a push - but three is a joke. Thankfully in a week or two I'd be very surprised to see any of them getting significant minutes - maybe Casemiro if we're going defensive.

Dalot is not having a good season so far. There is no doubt about this. However, it seems to me that he is our only hope of progressing the ball from back to front. A drop of the shoulder here or a quick one-two there and he is free.
The rest of the team just plays the ball back or loses it immediately. Ball progression is our biggest issue IMO.

Amorim has his work cut out.

death, taxes and rashford starting and coming off at the 60 minute mark........

After a dream start we quickly settled back into the same underwhelming performances that we've seen for a year or more. That 10 minutes before they equalised will have clearly spelled out to Amorim the scale of the job he has on his hands. The main phrase that played in my mind for 80% of the match was "fake press". Our team is just so damned easy to player against because we never lay a glove on anyone. We kinda run up to the opposition then they simply play around us. Its painful to watch, especially compared to how well they were doing it to us! How so much money has been spent on a squad with so little energy and bite is simply baffling

You think so? Just signed a new contract, it's gonna cost us a bomb to get rid.

I think we are stuck with him tbh

Evans is so off the pace it's embarrassing. He has no business being a PL defender. He marks space instead of players because he knows he can't trust his pace or strength, and then he gets caught out every time he has to turn because he can't move as quick as the opponent.

I know he's got history with the club and has been a good servant, amd its not his fault so i feel bad singling him out, but we shouldn't be a charity. He gets praised for performances our other defenders would be slaughtered for because he gets some kind of sympathy allowance. His legs have gone and he wasn't good enough in his first spell at the club when he could actually get about the pitch.

As long as we're lowering our standards to accommodate players, those lower standards are what we will get on the pitch.

Really hope Amorim draws a line under this. If you want to change the culture and mentality it has to apply to every player.

We're going to have this problem with a few players. Eriksen is another. Nothing against him at all but he doesn't keep up with the game anymore.
Think Eriksen is fine when surrounded by teammates who are working their socks off leaving him to ping passes. Unfortunately he is surrounded my players who either don't have the legs or can't be bothered to work hard.

It was very high intensity game, McKenna showed how it is done, if pressing means business. But should be no excuse, it was Ipswich and we played on a counter. Thiw will definitely not be acceptable going forward. But happy tha Amorim could see the speed of the league. he will have to work on it, bin some players etc. Maybe start with midfield and striker. Then we can realistically htink of building also through the middle.

I thought the team selection was a head scratcher, especially Eriksen and Casemiro on midfield.

First time out with a 3421, which looked more like a 523 at times, was always go leave those two midfielders outnumbered in midfield.
We had only 2 Midfielders 100% fit , and it wasn’t that much of a head scratcher as Casemiro and Eriksen have been our 2 best midfielders this season.

Disappointing yesterday, disappointing that this lot, barring one or two players, couldn't be bothered to put in the necessary effort to get the manager off to a winning start.
I'm seriously hoping that the board give Amorim carte blanche to finally rid the squad of the aged, the crocked, the hopeless and the bluffers.
He needs to be allowed to stick with his formation and tactics for as long as it takes to get something like a hard-working team together. They've appointed him based on his record over the last few seasons playing the way that he does so they need to back him all the way.
If, like he says, 2 years have passed and nothing's been achieved then sack him but in the interim, he's the boss so back him to do it his way.
