PL W FA Premier League

Manchester United 3:2 Liverpool

Post-match discussion

Sun, 03 May 2026

Sometimes the sum of collection of individual performances is less than the performance of the whole, but this is an occasion where the sum is greater than the parts. We had a few standout performers -- Mainoo, Heaven, Cunha and maybe even Shaw -- but collectively we responded brilliantly to the adversity of two horror mistakes and got the win that no one could possibly argue wasn't fully deserved.

In the end, isn't it all about deserving victory? We deserved it today, even though for a spell in the second half our tires went flat. Carrick and the boys responded to the flat tires by carefully replacing them, putting the driving gloves back and drove the car to glorious and fully deserved victory.

Perfection against a club like Liverpool, even with all their problems are still a menace, will have to wait another season, amigos.

2 mistakes gave them their goals. First half was good, the second we went on the back foot a bit and these mistakes hurt us. But overall, a win is what we needed to secure CL football and we got it.
Totally agree, 2 big mistakes, we were better overall but the unforced errors are extremely annoying

A win's a win, but it feels a little erm flat? With a little more composure upfront, they were there for the taking, it could have been a big margin win.

Carrick's decision to pull out Sesko was a bit inexpliccable. And Amad has been shit in 15 matches now
Sesko was injured in the advertising board incident

If they don't bin that fraud off and bring in Xabi Alonso in the summer then they're absolutely insane.

I don’t get this place sometimes. We just beat our biggest rival (again) and secured qualification for CL and yet, almost every thread is full of whining about our players, manager and the overall game. Was it a flawless game? No. But this negativity needs to stop.
Crazy isn't it. We are a good, well managed side (feels good to be able to say that after the last few years).

Some people are judging us against the title challenging side they would like us to be, not the work in progress that we actually are.

I think we've done well.

Big step up for us next season - but we need to be consistently in the CL places from now on, whatever else happens. That matters more than style of play, whatever that means.

Worst ever Liverpool team?
Were you not around pre Klopp?
I meant even if Liverpool played with their worst team, we won't dominate and be on the front foot against them at Anfield.

Worst team or not, every Liverpool team backs themselves to get something against United. They rarely lose by more than a goal if they lose, unlike us who have been slaughtered at OT every other season.

Sunderland (a) and Forest (h) - we could actually get 5 straight wins....it's certainly possible

Big win! Champions League football secured, third place basically secured, did the double over Liverpool. That’ll do nicely.

Such a weird way to talk or think as a Utd fan

Excellent result and an excellent performance, and we could've and should've been out of sight at half time .. We gifted Liverpool 2 goals by committing 2 out of character school boy errors, but showed great character to regain control and come back to win.. So much moaning here by people who forget where we came from and where we are now.. We finished 15th last season and lost a final to spurs and look at us now.. Top of the form table since Carrick took over, champions league secured with 3 games to spare, did the double over Liverpool for the first time in 10 years, beat Arsenal, City, Liverpool, Villa, and Chelsea.. Looking to strengthen in midfield plus a couple of other positions possibly in the summer and who knows what we can achieve next season .. Today is a great day if you're a united fan, and really no need to be negative and be moaning.

Think, this season United have done the double on City, Liverpool and Chelsea as well. Amazing stat.

I must say i was impressed by the team character overall. Fully deserved to be well ahead in the first half. Mistakes happen but they dealt with the setback of allowing them to come back by calmly starting again and getting the winner. A few years ago this would have been a collapse. Only dissapointed that we did not score more as 3-2 flattered them. Also Wirtz , absolute dross, a 130M turd.

fecking brilliant. Doing the double over those cnuts for the first time since 2016 and securing champions league football in the football. I’m over the moon. This is why I love this club.

A 48 ish point swing from the depths of how we finished last year, and who knows how many more if we hadn't pulled the trigger on Amorin earlier. Good times and hope we can handle Champions league and the busy fixtures next season. We will need a great transfer window for sure.

It was a great day at the races, so beautiful to come back from that mindblip at the start of second half.

Really good games from Mainoo, Fernandes, Shaw in particular.

I just realised Robertson started today yet I have no recollection of hearing his name or even seeing him. I had to double check that he did infact start.

Edit : Also just realised I used my 10th and final post of the day on Andy feckin Robertson. Fml

I only got to watch the 1 half beacuse had my kid's game to attend. Loved the 1st half. Any quick thought on 2 half issues? Thanks in advance!

We beat Liverpool!, today is a great day.

Two mistakes aside for their goals, thought we actually played really well in the first half especially and showed character in the second half to bounce back from two errors.

Casemiro should have scored from Bruno's cross, before Mainoo got the winner.

Loads to be positive about tbh.

Quote of the day from Joe on Stretty Paddock. 'Utd created 5 goals today, its a pity 2 of them were for Liverpool'

Delighted with the win, however that crazy 30 mins could have ended up costing us. Nice to add a first ever PL double to scousers and Chelsea to record books too.

Just got done reading the through the thread, and its the same pattern of posts most of the time. The 1st couple pages moaning even if we beat Liverpool (it's as id they are so excited to bitch) and the next few pages are mostly rightfully we happy we beat our biggest rival.

Obviously the squad needs improvement but if you can't enjoy the last a month or 2 after last season then I just don't know what to say. We just beat Liverpool for frick sake.

Brendan would be proud.

(Sorry - couldn't help myself)

4 million per place in the league. I can't imagine Jim will be happy if we don't finish 3rd
Villa result means we’re 6 points clear with better goal difference with 9 points to play for.
