Manchester United 3:2 Liverpool

Post-match discussion

Only saw the highlights but we looked like we could have scored 5 or 6.
Feels great to beat this feckers too!

Never in doubt. As soon as Amad made that mistake, I knew it would be a 3-2.

We beat Liverpool, had a good game, secured CL, yet this thread has only 8 pages. I dont get this place.

The result is the double over Liverpool. The result is a psychological shifting of how we’re currently viewed around Europe and beyond. The result is when both us and Liverpool go for a player in the summer that we have a good chance of getting him. It’s a great result and we have CL football next year.

I should give credit to their number 8 whose name I can’t be bothered to spell  . He dragged them back in it.
Slob-Sly!

Nice win but.....how long has it been since we've done a routine win over these? So annoyed at how we let them equalized.

It's built into our DNA at this point. We make it harder for ourselves.

Should have thrashed them yesterday, that Bruno miss first half for 3-0 was a sliding doors moment.

Then as soon as you gift a goal, the entire psychology changes. Thats football.

We need to be a lot more miserly when we're two nil up. Just knock the thing around and force nothing.

Even after the game and the elation there were still calls saying Amad should be sold, Sesko is a failure and Carrick needs to go in the summer.
I think a large proportion of this forum thrive on being miserable and beating down when we're doing well.

Yup, definitely. Its like this place has been broken beyond repair.

Is there any other team that you get more pleasure from beating than these lot!?
Especially in the manner that we did.
From the high of a 1st half full of aggression and intent and a fully deserved 2-0 scoreline at half-time.
To the low of looking like we could actually go on to lose the game, after letting them back in at beginning of the 2nd half (the less said, the better about the two individual errors!)
But we just about weathered the inevitable attacks that followed from an increasingly dangerous and confident looking Liverpool side, while we cleared our heads after the two sucker punches we took.
I was starting to get very nervous until Kobbie released a whole lot of pressure inside Old Trafford with his precise quick-scope sniper's strike!
The added sweetness of an academy product grabbing the winner in front of the Stretford End just elevated the elation!
Absolutely buzzing!!

Oh... and CL proper, secured for next season, more or less. No tricky preliminary rounds and potential banana skins to worry about!

Well done Michael Carrick on accomplishing an almost, mission impossible with three games to spare.

WHO THE FECK ARE MAN UNIIITED!!

Feck, don't know why I thought we did. Still Liverpool and Chelsea. Good space to be in.

And no one did (or can do) the double over us. Who's have thunk it? Big Michael at wheel

My partner left the room when Liverpool made it 2-2. The neighbors probably think I have anger issues.

Will we ever control a game under Carrick? Why do we never pass the ball around a bit and calm the game down instead of lining up in two banks of four and invite pressure?

Carrick is finding a way to win with this team, even when his half time substitution backfired on him early. The mispass from Amad led to some nervousness and a goal .... that led to another mispass and 2 nil lead wiped out almost instantly.... but this team is definitely playing for this manager and they knuckled-down, great winning strike from MOTM Kobbie.
Well done lads and the OT crowd, we shook the rafters at times.

So refreshing that we're finally up there in terms of goalscoring. Only 4 goals behind Arsenal and 3 behind City (though they have 2 games in hand).

If Casemiro, Cunha and Mbeumo each score 1 more PL goal and Bruno scores 2, we'd have 5 players on 10 PL goals each. When's the last time we had that?!

Bruno miss or not should have no impact on the game, even if it was 3-0 by half time, we could have easily gifted 3 goals to them. On the other hand, had we kept our concentration till 70min, we could have easily scored the 3rd goal.

The real issue is complacency and switching mind to party night before final whistle.

To date I still don't understand what was in keeper's head (not just Lammens, many other as well), knowing opposition high pressed, even if you make inch perfect pass to the CB, what do you expect him to do? Do a Zidane turn and run free from man-marking? All he could do is to pass it back straight to you, so why don't you hop it in the 1st place?

I don’t know why but we don’t seem able to do it and that’s over multiple generations of team.

Last time we dominated them at OT really was the 4-0 in 2003.

Nothing like them beating us 5-0 at OT or 7-0 at Anfield.

It’s not just a Liverpool thing though I guess, it’s rare in general that we ever batter teams.

We dominated them in the 3-2 where Berbatov scored a hatrick. Coincidentally, that game followed the same pattern as yesterday, where we went 2-0 up, should've scored the third, and then gifted them 2 goals, before scoring the winner in the last 15 minutes.

The scoreline doesn't suggest domination but we were all over them iirc. The reverse was Mourinho's last game where they won 3-1 but it should've been 5 or 6.

It's infuriating that we'll probably never avenge the 7-0, because even when we are better than them we always seem to have moments where we shit the bed and make stupid mistakes to give them a fighting chance. The body language of the players after that mistake from Lammens wasn't great, it was like 'here we go again'.

Casemiro getting 10 goals is a massive achievement… especially for a DM. I suppose it depends on who the manager is and what they want from their midfielders. It is good to see we’ve got plenty of goals shared around the squad. Just need to sort the midfield and defence out now. We so need some quality full backs… seems like we’ve had the same full backs for like 10 years

What a load of shite

Liverpool don't have ball carriers. We have a few high level ones that can really get you through tough games.

Great reply with well-argued points.

We had 39% possession at home. We deserved to the win the game, but we relied on transitions and counter attacks as we have done under Carrick consistently. Not saying he shouldn't get the job either, but being in control of games is not an attribute we have under him.

The thing you say never happens under carrick literally happened against Chelsea and we did it brilliantly. There’s probably plenty of other examples, but if you believe that we never pass the ball around and calm games down then it’s not worth discussing.

Don't get me wrong, I'm buzzing after the win. The only frustration is that when they have us by the balls in a game, they can beat us by 3, 4, 5 or even more.

When we had them by the balls yesterday with a chance to go some way to avenging some of those batterings, we hand them a lifeline they never looked like getting themselves.

A 4 or 5 nil yesterday would have been sweet!

Didn't see the game as I had a prior engagement. People moaning about the referee on socMed, but the highlights didn't show that (obviously), was it really another bad performance or just bias? Cos it's been a common theme. Reckon they were terrified to screw us over with VAR after the nonsense of the last few weeks

Strictly a Carrick issue is it? I’ve been watching the same thing under the previous 3 full time managers.
