Newcastle United 4:1 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

I hope in 40 years when Lindelof is sitting around a cosy fire telling his beautiful grandchildren about his professional football career they turn to him and say, "feck off mate, you were fecking shite".
He’s stolen a fecking living playing for us. It’s disgusting.

Never thought I'd be saying this but losing Zirkzee had an impact on the result. He was our best player which is definately a huge positive to take from the game. Reckon there could be a place for him in a strengthened Amorim line-up.
I thought we looked quite good going forward at times. One touch passing, then balls into space. Zirkzee has improved a lot in hold up -lay, and he has nifty touches and passes around the box.

There were mistakes playing out of the back against the high press, but I just feel more confident when we are dealing with it.

The score line was horrible, we lost Zirkzee, the keeper didn’t exactly grab the conch from Onana, so it was a bad day. But I can see a system that could be well executed with better attackers and a better performing midfield and wingbacks.

I think

most fans are expecting an exit in penalties on Thursday, I can’t believe one United fan think we will win Europa League we’ve lost three times to the worst spurs side this century this season let that sink in?
I think we'll win it. The joy of sport is that it sometimes throws up situations that seem unlikely. We're in a good position to go through to the semis, and at that point anything can happen. The fact that Spurs have beaten us 3 times this season just makes it more likely that we'd beat them in the final - not scientifically speaking of course, but that's just the way that things tend to happen.

Any news of Zirkzee? He fecked for the foreseeable? Looked like a hammy

Disappointed with every single player on that pitch apart from Amass one way or another. What really fecked me off though was the experienced players slipping and sliding around in the 2nd half after having seen it happen all through the first half, and still not changing their boots or altering the way they were trying to play or something. Mazraoui should be ashamed of himself, but Bruno, Lindelof, Amorim, Eriksen, all should have been coming up with a way to adapt to what was going on, and yet we only got worse and more ridiculous as the game went on.

The ref is a massive cnut as well though.

We were always going to get battered today. Away to a club having a good season where everyone feels on an upward trajectory, fighting hard for top 4. Us on the other hand have already fecked even a top 10 finish and have one eye on Europe on Thursday. Could’ve predicted worse than 4-1 to be honest. These players have been battered in a red shirt more than any in the last half century so are used to it.

Totally agree. It's players like him that have sat back and stole a living as a professional athlete. Players for this club over the last 10 years have sorely lacked in hunger and drive to be the best or be competitive at s top level.
They don't even compete when they get a chance. To play for a club like United and just sit back like Lindelof, Shaw, Dalot, Hojland etc. is just embarrassing. Our place in the table is a deserved level for this squad.
The opinion is that Amorim and INEOS have a massive task ahead. I disagree. There are so many players out there sitting midtable in their leagues that would improve us and are better than some of the players we have now. We need a true clean slate with players who are solid within a system and we can get the squad to a place were Bruno will eventually be the last one out the door. It's win at all costs or feck off to Turkiye for United players.
The gravitas of playing for Manchester United and everything that comes with it is their only obstacle. Footballing and doing the job they were signed for should be the easy part. Knowing the clubs history and having the fecking hunger to get us back to a level befitting of that history is the minimum we could ask for in every United player. Outside of a couple of players we just don't have it. Lindelof is Mourinho's 4th choice CB yet here we are as a football club watching him get skinned and not giving a feck while we sit in the bottom half.
Being a Manchester United supporter has been a fecking miserable slog the last few years. I don't even celebrate most of our goals because I think to myself "feck you and your dumb celebration, how about doing that again on regular basis so we actually have something to celebrate together as a club instead of just you". They don't though. This squad is Me United and has been for a while. A whole week of training and you serve up that shite every matchday, feck that.
I fecking know in my heart that we will be back eventually and the steps already taken, bad or good, are the medicine we need to swallow. Maybe two of today's squad will be there when it happens. Probably not though.

I'm struggling to see any other reasons for it though - its completely obvious we don't put up 2 players against that midfield 3, and yet we did it. Last time you can say it was inexperience of the league, but this time there isn't really an excuse for it, other than not wanting to change the system - which like you said in a dead rubber why not? Just seems odd - and thats coming from someone who actually sees the progress Amorim is making and what he's trying to do. I just wish he would be a bit more pragmatic at time, there's no harm unless he's worried about the optics of it.
2 midfielders is one thing , making Eriksen one of them - and super passive Lindelof the CCB - is.....a bit hard to understand.

I expected this to be a heavy defeat so the result didnt suprise me, I had a tenner on Tonali to score first @ 14/1 so at least I got something to be cheerful about out of it.

Let’s hope your right

Well said. He should have to pay back his earnings to the club in my opinion.

The table does lie , we are 14th , they are 4th and it looked like that today. They are far superior to us at every facet of the game

It takes some doing to spend a much as we did on this squad and end up with such a pile of dross. The worse ran major football club in all of Europe.

I disagree with that entirely. We went into the break 1-1. It was our capitulation in the second half, coupled with some appalling errors from our players which led directly to two of the second half goals, and poor overall team play which led to the other. If we play the second half as we did in the first, we could have got something from this game. Our mentality, the ease of which we make mistakes and our overall character contributed greatly to us falling apart.

Women’s football shit, in fact it’s even worse than shit, I’d rather apply chilli powder to my nuts than watch a single second of it… so yeah, after todays shit show I’m hoping Rory don’t crumble to DeShambles mind games and hoping at least one UTD fan is happy later on this evening
How do you really feel? Don’t hold back.

Nah. They were much better than us the whole game. We were lucky to be drawn at half time.

It isn’t about the fact that we lost but the nature of the goals we conceded. Bayandir doing what he did was diabolical
Yes it was. But I've seen posts ranging from blaming Amorim for Zirkzee's injury, to calling for his sacking if he doesn't win the EL. It's like people have been waiting for a bad result to go back to their previously held opinions about the manager after a string of decent but unspectacular results for the past few months.

We've undeniably improved in our general play, as we saw in the first half. The horror show of the second half doesn't change that, especially by players who'd never be on the pitch if we had options. People should acknowledge that instead of losing their heads.

Context is everything. Two good goals by them. Great goal by Garnacho. The other two were mistakes. I hope Zirkzee’s injury is fairly minor - he’s turning into something special

Thank you. I can understand the negativity, but the amount of people who seem to be willing to shit on our manager no matter what is ridiculous. I’m fed up of that shit.

United fan for over 60 years and I think this is the first match I have seen that I was laughing at how bad we are. I didn't know what else to do!

Me too, mate. All those claims of "we'll stick with the manager through bad results if we just see a defined style of play" rings hollow when the pendulum swings from game to game based on results.

Absolutely. And again, I can completely understand the reason for being jaded after nearly twelve years of constant failure. But still.

I'm not sure if this is quite the right application of that phrase.

Can't use language like that nowadays, it's PC gone mad.

Thought we started well and looked pretty good until they scored. We invited too much pressure by trying to play in tight areas in our third which then led to there first goal, we then continued to make mistakes which led to other goals.

Could it have been a penalty to us at 1-1? You can bet your bottom dollar it would’ve been given at the other end.

Thought there were some positives and given the starting line up, I wasn’t expecting us to get anything, roll on Thursday when it matters.

Well I am prepared to give him another session to see what he can do with a hopefully good transfer window.
There are signs of some slight improvement in the way we play at least.

Still don’t want Onana to start
I agree. Bayinder should have been given a decent run after hie performance v Arsenal, goalkeeping isnt easy at the best of times but for a keeper to only play once in a blue moon never works. But we need a new keeper to replace the calamity prone Onana.

What was up with how many of our players slipped over today?
Wrote the same earlier. 5 or 6 occassions and it was just our players slipping.

4 goals conceded, 2 are clear mistakes and another is Dalot failing to follow Livramento properly.

Hopefully 4-1 loss will hurt the players and give them extra motivation for Lyon game.

Amorim should be given the chance to work with players he brings in and given a decent run at it. The squad he inherited at United when he came in last November was, in the main, simply not good enough to mount any sort of challenge to Liverpool, City or Arsenal and has proven unable to even secure a top half of the table finish. We need (another) clear out of players who are not and mostly have never been good enough. Amorim likes to play in a certain way but needs the right type of players to fit in with his formation so he must be allowed to bring in new defenders, midfielders, a goalkeeper and a striker capable of scoring at least 20 goals a season. The tricky bit will be in persuading top players to sign for a club in decline.
