Good professional performance, job done and well played, I thought Casemiro looked very rusty, not his usual sharp and snappy self.

I’m glad ETH played such a strong team and didn’t do what a lot of posters wanted in terms of rotation.

our quality of players won that game today, and if we had rotated heavily- we would be looking at a draw or a defeat, making the second leg a must win.

we should now give the key players (rashford, Bruno, eriksen, Casemiro and de Gea) some rest now.

Varane and Shaw will play in the FA cup and should be rested next week as well.

don’t mind Wout, Antony, Fred, Maguire and Lindelof playing the next few games. Will be interesting to see if AWB gets a rest and who plays instead of him.

Great result away at a tricky place. They haven’t been beaten at the City ground for how long is it? Just ask Chelsea and Liverpool.
They haven't lost at home since September 16th or 8 games in all competitions (including wins against Liverpool, Tottenham and a draw against Chelsea). This is an excellent result and just what we needed considering our hectic schedule.

Forest were terrible and gave Utd far too much time and space.

There's not much more to read in to the match.

absolutely agreed, killed the game in the second half, allowed rest to key players and then finished the tie off in the 90th
I reckon we’ll start a strong team for the 1st half and all going well make big changes at half time

Could easily of fielded a shite second string against a team who were lively and forced our hand into playing a strong 11 for atleast 90 minutes at OT

Great goal by Ressi
Antony played decent
Martinez a boss

Good win and the margin should allow us to rest some players in the second tie.

Get in there.

Great result for the first leg away from home.

Rashfords goal was unreal, great to see Weghorst score and Brunos goal was ideal.

Licha shouldering Fred aside running towards the rest of the team celebrating the 3rd goal was pretty amusing as well.

Rubbish. Forest were very decent in the first half and made a real game of it. Johnson and Gibbs White in particular were good. Danilo looks like he'll be handy for them. Our second goal just before half-time killed them. It was a very professional performance from United against a dogged Forest who have been impressive at home recently.

I wonder how you seem to downplay this great win by our team.

I see nothing but bitterness in you.

Agreed - Forest were much better than I was expecting, if the offside goal had couned that would have a been a very different game

Can we agree, the Bruno and Pellistri errors could have been prevented by AWB being in fecking position. Was nowhere to be seen on the right for either. He needs to bust a gut to get back if he’s going to have any chance of staying here.

Has @Forest Red been seen safe and well yet?!
Just about - just waiting on the MGW update - the injuries are killing our season.
The first goal was exactly why I was gutted Yatesy wasn’t fit. Frueler stood and watched your bloke whereas Yatesy would have chopped him down knowing he wouldn’t get a booking so early. Fair play to you guys, the second killed the tie off and underlines how much we miss Boly and Niakhate.at CB. At least we gave it a go first half whereas the 2nd was just damage control. But MGW getting injured overshadows everything. The ties gone so move on to Leeds And see who’s fit.
The only positive is that despite not playing for 10 weeks, only being in the country for a week, not speaking language - Danilo looks the business.

I think the timing of our first half goals killed you then we managed the game really well and got the late third as reward.

Tough to concede so early then right on the stroke of half time.

Agree on the general sentiment it just wasn't your night. The timing of the goals in the 1st half were massive. You needed to come out firing and didn't get the chance.

Sloppy first half, but a good result in the end and it's very much job done for thr night. It would take something huge for them to come back from here at Old Trafford so it does feel like we've one foot in the final. Exciting times.

We're a well-coached team - the first time I've been able to say that about United in years. That's what makes a win like this not only look routine on paper, but also feel quite routine during the game itself. We can actually exert control on our opponent (not for 90 minutes - we're not there yet - but for large spells).

Anyway, good to basically put the tie to bed in the first leg and hopefully thereby afford ourselves the luxury to rest some tired players in the return leg, in advance of Palace at home.

The performance was beautiful in its scrappiness. We didn't play particularly well, but we converted on the few chances we created.

  • Rashy cutting through defenders lost in the forest -- goal.
  • Weggy poaching on a keeper spill (praise the gods it wasn't De Gea!) -- goal.
  • Quick thinking by a squad player to lay the ball off perfectly for Bruno for the sweet finish-- goal.

A cold night in Nottingham and back home by midnight tucked into bed for a good night's sleep. Job done.

Hopefully we rotate for second leg so can keep the majority of first XI for Palace at home

Still see those key players being on the bench next week unless Erik does it other way round and subs them at half time

Great way to bounce back! I like the mentality Ten Hag is creating. Good game all round from all the players. Forrest fought hard, but it was professional from us.

Good luck this season mate, good to have Forest back in the Prem.
