Gutted. A draw’s not the worst result, but when you take the lead late on, you expect to see the game out. Just wasn’t to be. Hopefully we’ll have enough to get it done in the home tie.

Let's see if I got this sequence of events right.

Each CL game last year, Onana kept making howlers. And each time, ETH kept picking him next game. Onana proceeded to single handedly throw out our CL campaign.

The rest of the season, he continues making howlers.
The manger is sacked, we start next season. Onana continues making regular howlers in goal.

Big EL game. Onana mouths off to the press about how we're far superior to Lyon, gets put down by Matic.
Makes a howler in the first half, team down a goal. We score 2, somehow, and regain the lead.
Onana wastes time by goading the Lyon supporters behind goal.
Last minute of the game, shot straight into his arms, Onana spills it right into Cherki's feet, and we concede.

I would love to bet on Onana starting the second leg and gifting away at least one more goal. It is absolutely going to happen. Amorim - like ETH before him - lacks the ability to drop underperforming players, especially the keeper. I don't care how poor Bayindir is, I'd rather see him make mistakes than see this fecker in goal, but there's no chance of that happening.
This! Amorim should have the gut to drop him and don't repeat the same ETH mistake.

Btw, he needs to drop Hojlund too.

The coach should lose his job if he sticks with Onana and Hojlund.
And yet you know both will start next week and both be awful next week too. I don’t get it. It’s easy not to play them and it’ll make us significantly better

Well put, it's why this club is where it's at. We see problems stare us in the face for so long and do nothing about it, rather than be ruthless

Onana is just one of many examples for years, it's tiring

Anything can happen though. They're a really cynical team, a weaker ref could fall for anything and this team needing to win versus only needing to draw are a different thing. Its an awful goal to concede
Yep, now they can sit back whereas 2-1 down, they needed to attack and it would have given us spaces. Nothings certain in the 2nd leg and I hope these goals don’t cost us.

Their striker Mikaudatze was quite an interesting prospect, 25, fast and very tricky with the ball at feet. I wonder what kind of price he'd be if we are looking for cheaper options.

First half was poor, mistakes everywhere and Onana at fault for goal. Second half was bit better and certainly Mainoo and Zirkzee subs turned out great. Mount was decent. Their second goal feels horrible.

It's a fair result but we were 30 seconds from win which would've been really big one.

We let them take too many shots in 2nd half from around the box and they got through our players too easy (Tolisso before his weak shot is an example). Inviting a goal that eventually did come.

For me it's our worst performance since February but do get it's a big occasion against a good side. Should take this draw and improve the performance in 2nd leg.

we have a ton of issues that we need to fix all over the pitch and unfortunately a GK will now be a part of that because we could play our hearts out and gain an advantage in any game only for the buffoon at the back to ruin it all

I remember a couple of months ago someone doing a thread about Zirkzee v Hojlund and I thought it was ludicrous to suggest Zirkzee should start ahead of him.

But now I think it looks pretty clear he's a more effective player.

Please leave Onana there, don't let him on the plane. Hide his passport or just shred it, whatever is required.

He must never play for us again.

I like lots of our team but we survive on tiny margins due to lack of quality. Leading changed the entire make up of second leg and we gifted them 2 goals.

Absolutely agree that the spotlight is on Ruben now.

It's gotten to the point where blaming Onana is like blaming a toddler for making a mess whilst the parent wasn't looking.

I thought the performance was pretty good but our goalkeeper had other plans. I would be confident of beating them next week. I hope Amorim has lost trust in Onana and Hojlund by then, neither can be relied upon.

I thought we were very good. Let down by our striker, GK and Garnacho. Who will all be gone this summer.

It’s not unusual to continue playing a player through a poor patch of form, or lack of confidence.
The alternative is to take them out of the limelight for a while and work on them in training.
However Onana is a different situation.
He’s proven to be just too unreliable and prone to regularly making big errors.
They need to make a big decision now and replace him for the remainder of the season.

In the great scheme of things, a draw away in the quarter finals isn't a bad result. The manner of the goals we gave up is shocking though.

We scored 2 good goals and beat their keeper fair and square. Our keeper may as well have thrown the ball in his own net twice.

I get that being in Europe is important, but to honest I think a season without extra games will help in getting a team together, given that two or three new players will be coming in and Reuben getting his team and his style across during pre season and beyond. Of course I will cheering them on to win the EL, but I don’t think it would be a disaster if we didn’t.

Not replacing Onana and signing 4-5 players that improve our first team and squad would be like renovating a house but not fixing the water leak.

I'd rather him act insane than stupid. Should have subbed him off. Was clear as day.

He shouldn't be playing, it's as simple as that
Yes, but if you actually want us to move Onana on for more than the cost of a kinder egg, you don't do it by publicly castigating him and basically making it known to all and sundry he's persona non grata.

Just hope that those links to Saudi are true and he's gone in the summer. Until then we'll have to put up with him.

Very good, mature performance let down by an embrassment of a keeper

Rasmus shocking as well, that opportunity was made for him, he can have no excuses

Imagine what playing in the CL would do to building team morale and unity.

We need the money from Europe, especially after they changed the format. More games = more money.

Winning the EL and qualifying for the UCL could be the difference between signing Osimhen over someone like Delap.

If anyone think europa league isn't a serious cup, they should watch this match to confirm their thought.
How these teams are even in top8?

Onana got us kicked out in Europe last season trying to bin us off again, please get rid in the summer.

Garnacho? what is the point of him, zero end product this season, may as well play an academy player at least they might actually do something, hopefully with Mount and Mainoo back Garna will be back on the bench, if somebody is stupid enough to offer us north of £40m in the summer I would take their hand off.

Hoijlund, just no

feck. I thought our backup keeper was injured? Is that right?

Onana and Hojlund should be benched for the rest of the season. I get that you don’t want to punish after one performance, but both have been abysmal the entire season. I’m beginning to think Hojlund is an even worse buy than Antony or Sancho. We cannot get out of our own way when it comes to scouting and talent acquisition. How is it that City can spend 20m on Alvarez after sniffing him out in the depths of South America, meantime we are spending gobs of cash on non-performers like Hojlund.

I really hate these players. If you really want to be depressed, go back and look at the threads in the Caf about how Onana was going to change the way we play… it’s sadly hilarious.

The squad additions by ETH set us back 5 years. Telling that he hasn’t found a new job yet.

100%. Although I think part of that conversation was Højlund is a 9 and Zirkzee plays behind the striker, they weren't like for like, and if you needed a 9 we only really had one. But Zirzee is proving to be a lot more useful, whatever his position may be, than Højlund in his alleged best role.

Really disappointed not to win that.

Onana costing us yet again.

I’d have taken a draw at 1-1 but feck me if I’m not gutted we drew that. Onana needs to only play the league games, give bayindir the Europa.

I think if you sell:
Hojlund 20m
Rashford 40m
Garnacho 40m
Onana 15m

Total: 115m

Along with, say 125m spend, that’s 240m. Should get Delap for 40, Osihmen for 75m, a new keeper 30m, a RWB for 50m, that’s 195m, enough to add a couple players for squad depth, maybe a DM and a young 10 or young lwb /rwb for depth.

Sell Zirkzee as well and maybe an extra 15-20m coming your way…

Onana needs to play Sunday League haha. I want him nowhere near matches of consequence. He’s not even that good at distribution, which was the whole reason we paid 50m for him. What a disaster….

Guess Matic was right. I thought Onana would rise to the occasion to prove him wrong - shows how fragile he is mentally.
