Wanted to jump in to comment on VDB's quiet excellence today. Bruno and Cavani will get most of the plaudits but VDB was class. He's technically superior to Bruno but completely unselfish and little less rash. VDB and Bruno are complementary players.

Great comeback, just like the Fergie days. Real shithouse thuggery from Southampton in the first half that ref Moss let go unpunished. Two set piece goals that really our defence should deal with better. Wasteful finishing in the first half, but what a performance from Cavani! It's so good to have a proper centre forward again and he did the business. Big shout outs for Fernandes and Van de Beek as well.

Cavani takes all the plaudits and rightfully so.

But, let us not overlook an INCREDIBLE performance from Fred today. He was everywhere with the press, and made key link passes in the transition. He was wrestling with Adamns and that thug Romeu half the match. He's growing splendidly.
And he gave away a stupid foul on the edge of the box, and they scored from the free kick. Fred is not good enough.

Playing football often looks like a day job for Martial, Cavani looked like he was enjoying himself with his mates.

Romelu (sp?) is such a thug. That was a stamp on Bruno and the announcer called it a good tackle.
Even after the replays showed it was a clear foul kept saying it was a good tackle - trying to justify his original statement.

Never seen much off Cavani at PSG, but that's a proper fecking striker's performance. Reminds me of that match where RVP scored a hattrick for a comeback. Which match was that?

I really want to know how many unforced errors we make. The passing and decisions at times are ridiculous.

Thank heavens for Cavani.

Tbf to him, I thought it was a good tackle on first viewing. Him not backing out after seeing the replays was dreadful commentating though.

We didn’t make as many as you think. The free kick was an error of judgement in tackling but not a glaring error.

If you want context, how about the number of tackles we won to turn over possession? We were supposed to struggle against this amazing’ high press’ of Southampton’s but as Hassenhutl has admitted, his side struggled against us

I feel bad for United to be playing without the fans present. Can you IMAGINE the love Cavani would have gotten today?

Absolutely fantastic win. Cavani (MOTM) reminds soo much of Zlatan. Sometimes we need an old experience head to dig us out of trouble & my word did he produce. Sadly young Mason needs pull himself together. The chances he had were gold but the finishing was extremely poor. Realistically we were better than them throughout the game although it was a poor display from the back four & DDG. Personally I feel really confident in Henderson being in goals & I think he should be No.1 keeper. I have no idea how that prowse was not booked he committed soo many blatant fouls. Anyway I’m glad we pulled the win out of the bag because we really didn’t deserve to loose.

I'm better than Messi (even though I'm not)
Great comeback. Despite his reluctance to shoot I feel VDB is a good addition, he keeps it sharp and tidy and we need a player like that around Fred. Cavani, excellent of course. In addition to being class he showed the desire and commitment required to fight and scrap. Something that’s been missing from some squad members.

Cavani has lot still to offer and the other forwards need to screw their heads on and use this opportunity to learn about movement and decision making from one of the best. 5 points from top with a game in hand and in a very good position in CL group. Despite all the doom and gloom this season is very much alive.

And watch him on the corner they scored from. Marking empty space which he jogs away from when corner swings in, totally ignoring Southampton player dropping back. I guess he was there to track the player on edge of box but had no chance even if ball came that way. When goal went in he just turns away and pretends to be invisible. How anyone can say he was incredible today is beyond me. VdB seems to be a far more aware player, shows for the ball more and has a first touch.

Cavani is in great shape considering his age. Really great strikers performance. Should be a starter as of right now, Greenwood and Martial both badly lacking form.

Martial is not a number 9, but we've got too many natural left wingers.

Am I happy with today's result? yes. With the performance? Mostly. But the thing that annoys me most is our stupidity. We are defending a corner against this season's dead ball king and who is making their C/B? Rashford!! Come on that really was a case of boy against man. Then we give away a free kick right on the edge of our own box. And Ole has to be questioned as well. Southampton have bullied teams all season, it's their high tempo pressure press has them in fifth and as the second half proved we needed a stronger presence up front to bully them back a bit. Cavani probably should have started, but both Fred and Matic need to get more physical in the middle of the park not on the edge of our own box.

What a great comeback and a great result, but we had missed at least two of the best three chances of the whole game before they scored their first. Cavani has still got it, his movement especially in the box is fantastic, just look at that first goal in freeze frame, he is our only player actually moving in the box when the ball comes in, like Zlatan he's not the future, but will do me for now.

Fred is becoming a real liability now, twice in one week gives a way a stupid foul just outside the box which leads to free kicks which DeGea could not stop. Fred has some good points but defending in and around the box is not one of them; how Ole keeps making him a first choice is worrying.

Have to say that result inspired some pretty mental celebrations :)

Weird, always thought we would win even at 2 down.

Another 3-2 classic against Southampton :)

Because until we get a world class DM we will just use sticking plaster players like Fred

What a fecking comeback that was. I was buzzing afterwards (still am to be honest). Havant felt that good after a win in a long time. Late dramatic goals will do that. Had me running around the room.

Where would this team be without Fernandes? He is an absolute animal for us. Goals and assist machine. And Cavani, wow. What a 45 minutes that was. If you look at my post history you will have found me being very much in the Cavani doubter category. I was very unimpressed with him last year, and after a bad injury I thought he was done. So asking him to step up to the Premier League was a bridge too far. I don't want to go overboard, as its just one half, but if that's a sign of what's to come, we're in for a treat. And I'll gladly be dead wrong and take any abuse forthcoming.

First half was very frustrating. We gave them opportunities to do exactly what they're good at. Get set pieces. We were punished and made them look better than they are. Out players being wasteful didn't help either.

So glad we beat them.

I was very disappointed how we played after they scored, but that was it. What a great 2 half. Cavani obviously MoM but Fred was awesome. VdB was great, but wish he would be a little more selfish.

What a great feeling!
He got away with a similar thugish tackle last year. It was intentional and sound have been awarded with a red card. But Moss found it hilarious.

That was vintage United and two vintage #9 goals from Cavani, we were playing well and there wasn't much we could do about their goals, but until we grabbed the first I wasn't convinced we'd get back into it as those days are not as certain as they were under Fergie. Just a great win that was exciting to watch.

Ole rarely gets the formation and lineup both right.Today he got the formation right but should've started Cavani and another midfielder instead of two CDMs.
He finished with the right formation and players on the pitch and that's why we won. Greenwood against giant centrebacks was not the right choice. That was made clear as day when Cavani comes on and with his heading ability scores two goals.Ole has to now start VdB and Cavani in most formations and lineups.

Or he can continue leaving them out and pay for it.
Ole certainly doesn't have to take advice from folks like you who know very little.

Wasn’t this where RVP scored a last minute winner in SAFs last season?
