PL D FA Premier League

Sunderland 0:0 Manchester United

Post-match discussion

My main concern is next year without Casemeiro we will be back to being shit and can't even qualify for Europe. We are that shit without Casemeiro.

Looking at the bright side we got cleansheet today. That's all.

Horrible display , got a point that we did not deserve.

I know you can say we had nothing to play for but still worrying how these low energy lethargic displays are so easy to come by from this team , any chance they get the performances falls of a cliff , that desire to win at all costs just because that is your nature seems lacking in so many players.

Dorgu added a bit of energy when he came on but it is clear who ever is managing us next season is gong to need to bring a few players who can add tempo to this squad.

Poor performance from United but some of those Sunderland players were auditioning really hard it seems. Good for them, nothing wrong with that.

We are never pretty when we make so many changes. The game felt a little like there wasnt a lot to play for. Defended well first half but created nothing. Second half i felt we controlled the game but until the last 10 minutes never looked like scoring. A strong finish and possibly could have nicked it… take the point move on.

Sit back and watch the redcafe melt down.

Need to buy world class players during the summer

A good look ahead of what happens when we don't get enough players in next season, at least if we want to compete in multiple competitions and clinch top 4 again. Hopefully we will do better against Nottingham Forest in the final game to send off Case, but this is what I expect Brighton will look like.

We’ve very often been shit with him too.

It was a dead rubber in terrible conditions. Players are just waiting for the world cup.

It’s hard to care given that nothing much is at stake. I wouldn’t read too much into the performance.

Hopefully every video file of that game will be deleted so one will ever be subjected to that turd of a football match again.

Decent point, 3rd secured job done.

I think the intention is to buy someone to replace Casemiro.

Something has happened to Amad surely? The way he used to press and play with speed has disappeared

His body language just gives can't be arsed vibes

Real shame

What we learned

1. Zirkzee is useless and must go
2. We cannot play UCL and EPL + 2 cups with ONE, young striker and Mbeumo out of position. If Wilcox thinks he can afford to not sign a striker, he is even dumber than we thought
3. Similarly we need 5-6 new players. We do not have squad to play multiple times a week.
4. Most disappointing: Carrick has no balls. He didn't use any youngsters even in a match that is mostly meaningless
Oh come on. The bit about Wilcox is just an assumption you've made yourself.

There's every chance we sign at least 4 players this season.

Re the bit in bold though, the under 21s had a semi final last night and some of the other 18s are probably being held back for their final on Friday.

Calm down ffs.

Amazing how many people don't realise this.

We have nothing to play for, they actually do have something to play for so of course they were up for it. All things considered you take the point and move on.

Is that acceptable though? Why should millionaires get a pass on delivering that kind of "performance" when working people pay good money, and give up half their weekend to be treated to that?

That's on the manager to motivate.

I point you in the direction of the first 2 pages of this thread...

Honestly you wonder what the reaction would be like today to, say, losing 1-0 to West Ham at home on the day we lift the trophy (2007)

#SAFOUT!!!

Bad performance. Completely lacking intensity for us, a better team beats us today. Fair play to Lammens though. Easily the man of the match for us, and kept us in the game.

Drop off in performance was to be expected I guess, considering there's not a ton to play for, but I think the bigger factor was our poor squad depth. No one in midfield capable of winning the ball or showing some aggression. Zirkzee completely useless up front. Looks like he'd lose a duel with his own shadow, and every time he was on the ball, the attack broke down.

Probably didn't impact the game really, but I feel Sunderland should have had a red at the end there.

I can point you to several similar "end of season" games under Fergie... I don't think anyone questioned his motivational techniques?

Carrick showed us today, why we should think about his contract twice. We lack physicality in every match and he replaced our DM with Mount. We played wirthout a striker for 60 minutes....

Real end of season feel, think it's time for Frank to finally admit defeat on his bet and get his hair cut

Glad the blackout here stopped me being able to watch it. Sounds like a genuinely torrid performance.

Past our first eleven we seem to be dreadful every time.

I feel like there's a pretty weak mentality to boot, every time other teams around us drop points, we throw a game. Getting the job done should be the norm.

It's been a pretty terrible quality PL season in all, for everyone, interesting to see what next season brings, because those lads are all on the plane to Marbella right now.

Sunderland raised their game and we didn’t seem up for it. Lucky to come away with a point. I get that we have already qualified for Champions League but the lack of hunger to win or at least perform from the players is incredibly troubling.

Where is Ugarte? when he's there he hide in games and when Case is injured he's also... missing.

I am not sure how a different manager fixes this.

If we don't pick up another point, Liverpool win their last two games and get a few more goals than us, then mathematically 3rd place could be theirs. Very unlikely, though.

My problem with this squad is they are quite capable of putting in dire performances like this fairly often.

What worries me, its a mentality thing because on any given day, most of these players can just turn up and decide to not really bother.

Proper winners dont really do that kind of stuff.

This is where Carrick fails somewhat, some elite managers would just not tolerate this from his players.

Not blaming Carrick though, these players have done it many times.

Bit shite. But expected.

Assaulting Bruno is ok I guess. Other than that, it's a decent point.

Don't pretend that you haven't had a skiving day at your work.

I just had an entire skiving week because there's bugger all projects to work on. I had the team build a box fort at one point and we were launching boots at one another.

Yeah agreed I don't see us losing both and Liverpool wnning both.

Was it 2001 where we won the league in record time and lost our three final games, a few of them at home too? Finished on 80 points.

I’m not convinced by Carrick but the games at this point considering the league position and World Cup are not an indication of anything. I fully expect us to beat Forest next week as a send off for the fans at OT and then lose to Brighton on the final day. Season was over last week.

Between this Leeds and Newcastle it’s very very obvious we massively struggle against super aggressive teams. When we’re forced into a game of ground duels we look really really shit.

Players like Maz, Mount, Zirkzee, Martinez i feel get a bit shown up in these games. Just not dealing with having the ball and then not dealing with getting the ball off the opposition: it’s a good thing the majority of premier league teams don’t play like Sunderland Newcastle and Leeds.

It's ok it was a non violent elbow to the face while making absolutely no effort to contest the ball.

Now if it had been Bruno on a Sunderland player, different story.

Manchester United 0 - 1 West Ham - 2007

The letdown after the slaying of Liverpool to secure CL qualification is not surprising. No need to reach for the panic button or even lose any sleep.
