Why? Beckham had a lot better delivery but Ashley is better defensively, while Beckham is a better player, they shared similar qualitieaPlease do not compare Young to Beckham.

I actually paused the match and took a nap at halftime and I'm sure I've never done that in 16 years being a fan.
One thing I've noticed the past few matches is we are not moving the ball with as many one touches so our build up is becoming slow like in January and February. However, I think part of that is the fact teams are parking the bus and most players have time with to receive, take a touch and pass.
Geordie fans had a banner today "we don't demand we win, we demand we try". Thought of that after our match. Certain players not giving their all for even 45 mins.I turned it off after RVP missed the penalty.
Not sure at this point if I'll watch the final 3 games, my weekends are precious and if they're gonna play like cowards it's not worth my time.
Come on buddy. BELIEVE.Some people here mentioned that they fell asleep during the game, after the first 20 minutes I was exasperated.
You could see how this game was going to end by the way West Brom set up (similarly to Chelsea and Everton) and how laboured our buildup was. We're back to that slow passing nonsense in the area just before the final third, passing it back and forth with no real intent. We were so static when set up on attack it was ridiculous. I was waiting to see us feck up on a counterattack and it was the familiar sequence of counter-free kick-GOAL that finished us.
LVG has been lacking against sides that play like this, which is a big worry because the majority of clubs in the PL will take a defensive approach against clubs like United. We lack the players ATM to get through 8 or 9 defenders sitting back, so we have to figure out a way of creating solid chances in the box - solid chances, not relying on a 20-year-old CB to score off a corner. All we did was bring on DiMaria and lob crosses in, while LVG sweated on the bench.
CL looks very doubtful to me.
I also don't think Carrick would have made a big difference in this match but still we need him back to have a leader on the pitch and to play everyone again in their best positions.

It's strange, but it feels like the squad went into holiday mode after beating City. Not sure how anyone within the club could've thought we had qualification sewn up.
I really doubt this is what happened. And anyway, you need to be an utter idiot in order to think top 4 is good and that finishing in the top 3, thus avoiding the qualifying round, is meaningless.
I just feel mental issues are regularly a good excuse for football failures.
Just imagine we dont get top 4 now, LvG will probably be sacked for a start.

If there was a desire to win, I think we would of had more urgency.

We found a formula for success, the opposition adjusted, and we have failed to adapt beyond that. It's a failure in management to persist with the same tactics and the results show it. Zero goals in three games.
I think this sums it up pretty well. United's style looks great when they're ahead. Then it's "controlling the game". When behind it's "all possession with no penetration". There has been no successful plan B throughout the good run.
Herrera playing deeper really hurts United's ability to play through the middle. Adding more technical ability centrally in midfield was obviously the reason for switching RVP & Fellaini. The reasoning was good but I don't think it was the right way to accomplish it.
Hopefully some good recruitment in the summer will mean 1 or 2 injuries or any mid game changes won't completely unbalance the team. Only one of the systems played all season has shown any degree of balance.
It's a real shame how the season is ending. A run of wins and a 2nd/3rd place finish would have carried great momentum into next season.
I can understand that, unfortunately it then leaves you with technical ability up front. Apart from the penalty RvP looked better than he has.
Carrick's injury has killed us too. Pathetic that our squad, after the huge outlay, is still so imbalanced that him being out basically ruins us in four senses - the actual loss of Carrick, having to play Herrera at the base of the midfield, having to play Rooney in midfield, having to play anyone who isn't Rooney up front.
He isn't, but he is as vital to how this particular team plays as Robbo was to that team.Hard to know which of everything that has happened in the last three games is due to Carrick. The four injuries we suffered prior to the Chelsea match forced a big reshuffle (like Rooney in midfield). Also, Mourinho played us in a way our previous opponents did not, and after him everyone is at it.
Carrick's injury played a part, but surely it can't be that huge. He's not Robson.

It isn't the only reason, it is a big reason as it disrupts the side in a big way. However, having CB's who can't stay fit and a LB who can't stay fit either are a major factor as well. Oh and strikers who cannot atm put the ball in the net is another.Carrick's injury clearly isn't the only factor in our poor run. But I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest we'd have had at least three more points had he been fit, which would've basically sealed our Champions League position.
I thought Rooney was very lazy, just going through the motions. I thought the defense did OK, but they played within themselves. Paddy as an example started to go forward and then just did the simple pass to Blind in most cases. Blind and RVP were off the pace, but I put that down to coming back from injuries. I thought Young was too stop/start. Has periods of high involvement and then goes missing. Thought he could have done more to get involved. Fellani seemed to just stroll about, again, had a few moments where he had some real effort.Who did you think wasn't giving their all?
