Potential Centre Back signing?

So why when everyone's fit, is Heaven 5th choice?

The only reason we would be looking for a LCB is because the club doesn't think Heaven is good enough to be first choice for next season.
Because he's 19 years old FFS, Yoro is a year older and TBH I think Heaven has shown more than Yoro has

The club obvioulsy regards them as being our CB partnership in the near future

IF they are looking for a LCB it’s because they don’t believe that Licha will be able to remain fit for an entire season and you can’t go through a season constantly changing your CBs.

I really, really don't want VDV here. Perhaps I've misjudged his character but he just seems like such a twat. Appears to think he's much better than he is.

Comes across as very humble in Dutch interviews. Maybe a twat on the pitch, must say I don't watch a lot of Spurs games. Might have to tune in these last couple of matches though

PLEASE sign Robert Renan, easily the best CB in South America and only 22. Tall/quick/athletic and technical, everything we need. It's going to be infuriating when Bournemouth sign him to replace Senesi then we're looking at paying 80m for him in 2 seasons.

We’ve got Maguire, De Ligt, Martinez, Yoro, Heaven, Shaw, Fredricson and Kukonki as centre back options so I fully agree with Carrick in that it’s not an area of concern right now especially when we basically have only two senior midfielders in Mainoo and Casemiro as Ugarte can’t be trusted.

I know De Ligt is an injury concern with bjs back and Martinez has had a big injury for the last two years in a row but if we were to bring in a quality left back like Lewis Hall then Shaw could play more games at centre back and we’d have Dorgu and Amass as options also so unless we were to bring in Sensei on a free then I prioritise other positions.

I still say we should be all over Senesi deal as he's a free agent so would allow us more to spend on RB. The other free agent who catches the eye although age will be a issue for INEOS is Rudiger. His big club experience would be huge in Champions League as well, could also give us replacement for Casemiro in terms of heading ability.

Rudiger no thanks, makes no sense. If we buy a CB, which is unlikely, it needs a CB in his prime yet not above 26

Rudiger would be a great pickup, for his experience alone and great in the air.
Unfortunately there are no links to him
He's also a nutter. He'd be in court more than on the pitch doing half the antics that he gets away with for Madrid in a United shirt.

He played for Chelsea without any major issues (that I can remember)

It’s like when people said that Smalling would never survive in Italy or with VAR because he’s always wrestling people, he’d be sent off a lot. Never happened

Said the same the other day. Would take no time for that chap to earn a lifetime ban wearing a United shirt.

We buy a CB in his prime under 26, that means the club don't think Heaven and/or Yoro are going to make it

Konsa is the one we need to push the boat out for this summer. Maybe send one of our crocks on loan the other way to sweeten the deal.

A 26 year old may play for 8 more years. A kid is not going to want to wait around that long

What do you propose, that we limit ourselves to a very senior player in order to give both Yoro and Heaven as much benefit as possible?

If they're good enough they play. We didnt need to be awful for the youngsters to break through in the 90s and early 2000s.

Competition with good players is more likely to make them play better than if they play because we have no other options.

Absolutely.

I know but have a look at our only reliable CB at the moment.
I know, I just don’t rate him the price we’d have to pay to get him from Villa. And that would be 50m+ from our budget. There are options on the freebie market that we could be looking at, but as it’s United we will do our other business first, lose out on those options then be scrambling around last week to find someone, only to decide oh we have enough

£40-50m including add-ons.
As a player I wouldnt argue against him and his age profile might even suit Yoro and Heavens development but the price seems too much for a guy with perhaps 3 more seasons left as a starter.
You also need to consider we’d be financing a rival to reinvest in a younger player. Better to let Villas team naturally age out.

Yeah we never seem prepared going into transfer windows. So frustrating. Senesi or Van Hecke could turn out to be good business but I don’t think either are commanding enough defensively. All of our senior CBs aside from the two youngsters are lacking something be it pace or height or both. And going the cheap route would just add another flawed player to that group IMO.

No. Just no. He can be like Mustafi on his worst day.

He's been good maybe for the last quarter (when the season is over for many teams), but consistently unreliable all his other seasons. Many personal errors. Always used to bet against him in FPL and it always paid off.

Perhaps Villa would part with him for £30-40m I don’t know. But 3-5 years of service would be a good return on investment even if it’s a bit more.

I agree if you read the end of my post. Senesi doesn’t have much of a resume either though he definitely inspires more confidence than Van Hecke.
