Potential Centre Back signing?

And none of them are good enough and/or proven enough and/or healthy enough. As long as at least one of Heaven or Yoro doesn't take a massive step forward CB position will be one of our weaknesses. Or at least a huge questionmark. This is a risky decision.
I am all for signing a quality CB who has a good fitness record, not least because Yoro will play plenty of games as an inside right back this season, which is good experience and development for him.

Personally I would buy an attacking left back and a top quality CB. And sell Martinez in the process. De Ligt coming back to full health and form is pretty important. Likewise this is a season where Yoro needs to play a lot of games. His development is crucial. He is going to be a top class player but he needs games. Likewise I rate Heaven highly and think he will establish himself as first choice sooner or later. But to make that balance work optimally we need someone on the left who is good at getting forwards and creating overloads. Hall seems an obvious fit. Yoro, De Ligt, Heaven and Hall has a very nice balance to it. But I think the pickings get slim after that. Maguire is great cover, but looking at those options you feel the need for another proper CB to come in..

Yeah, it has a nice balance but it is dependent on de Ligt getting fit and staying fit, too risky.

Maguire isn't going anywhere this year, and Yoro/Heaven need minutes for their development. If we're not going to move one of De Ligt or Martinez on, then we don't need another CB.
If we could sell one of them and bring in a strong LCB...excellent, but not until we have an outgoing move lined up.

Ousmane Diomande linked to Forest in a potential 34m move.

De Ligt will have been out a year by the sounds of it, that's why I can't understand not prioritising CB. How much of a warning sign does INEOS need that we can't afford to gamble on his fitness.

Surely even with his injury record we should be looking to get at least 50mil for Martinez. Someone is going to take the risk on that. And as much as I don’t really want to sell him if we were to get offered something near that I think it would be wise to sell.

In theory we have great CB options however the two that on their day are our best partnership have too many injury issues.

So if someone came in for Martinez I’d sell then go and get Castello Lukeba. Gives you all the technical things Martinez does but would be hard to find someone who has his mentality.

I wouldn’t sniff at Diomande either if the prices been spoken about are true, but one of DeLigt or Martinez need to stay just for an experienced head with Maguire.

Madness. The market for 5ft8 centre backs is already going to be limited. Then add in that he'll miss half a season every year, why on earth would anyone part with 50 million?

He’s still one of the best CB’s around and someone like Atletico might take a punt on 50 mil as a reinforcement. Look at the market and some of the players going for ridiculous fees.

Not great examples as it’s United but we bought DeLigt and we bought Mount who had injury records.

Heck PSG bought Dembele for 50 mil 3 years ago, look at him now. You’d get laughed at if you tried to get him for under a 100.

We’d get more for Martinez than 30 mil.

They overpaid for Goncalo Ramos, so I think they would do that if Amorim pushes for a move
They spunked about 5 years budget on one player. I suspect that there was some dodgy dealing going on there. I don’t expect them to be in a position to offer whatever mad price everyone thinks Martinez is worth

Who?

No PL club is going to buy him are they? So that rules out most clubs that could spend £50m.

So are one of the top clubs in Europe who could afford him going to buy him? Barca, Real, PSG, Bayern? Cant see it.

He’s a massive risk, if a club made an offer for him, I think it would be circa £20m.

Looks like Nelson done his knee in the friendly last night, so that's off the cards.

Don't forget that Mazroui and Shaw can also play CB.

Having said that we should sell one of Martinez or DeLigt to sign another CB who is not injury prone

Lucumi seems most likely at moment. Probably 18m deal. Juve also keen.

I’m not sure spending fifty million can be described as a punt. That’s an astronomical fee given his situation.

Maguire is 33 and the only fit and experienced CB we have at the moment, we need someone else to be able to fill in if he gets injured. Heaven, Yoro have potential but would not trust them for an extended period at the present time, De ligt, Martinez poor injury record.

Diomande going to forest now for less than 40m, there's deals to be had out there.

Although the numbers are skewed as a full season is less than 300 days, I'm disappointed we haven't considered selling Martinez.

Who’s going to buy a player that has been injured for 2 seasons straight? It’s the same issue as Mount and Shaw.

Even you have to throw them in and let them play or you abandon our youth policy. I rather play one of these than buy a mediocre yet experience defender who than takes game time off them

What the feck? I've just seen Liverpool are getting Ronald Araujo on loan from Barcelona. How were we not in for him?
