London derby, away on Friday night again...what could go wrong??

It's as if the EPL loved the drama of the Brentford game last season and said we'll have more of that!
Yeah, no chance Sky were going to pass up that fixture as the Friday night opener.

When it is currently, more or less the same players as last season playing them, I couldn't care less about the fixtures. What am I looking forward to exactly? Players to not care and not try again?

Can’t complain with that really. Home game to start with, not a bad run of games at start or the finish. No too teams either just before the WC break or in the 3 games over Xmas just after it.

October does seem very tricky. Arsenal on Friday night again, swear this happens every year.

When you look at the fixture list, it really hits home how mad the Premier League is. Best league in the world by far.

I'm putting money on Arsenal to lose three out of their first four games.

The World Cup really making the fixture congestion damn brutal. Let's hope that the Covid won't return in full force and we don't have postponements again.

I am usually excited when I see fixtures come out.

This time, I am looking at those thinking, are we even going to win any of the first 5?

The Premier League specified the other day that it would be stricter on postponements.

"The Premier League has updated its rules on rescheduling matches, with postponements now only granted if “the impact of player unavailability on a club’s squad is truly exceptional”."

Few brutally long months in October and February thanks to the uefa cup but other than that its pretty good. Fairly easy start, a nice run of lesser teams in the last few games, couple of tough games grouped together but that can be a good thing if we’re ready for them.

Doesn’t seem that changes much unless players getting suspended finally doesn’t play a part? Say Maguire gets covid but because Varane gets a red card in a squad decimated with injuries, is the game postponed?
Arsenal looking into loopholes as we speak

Anyone else trying for tickets? Had to wait in a queue to get into a waiting room before the next queue starts at 10am, bloody stupid system.

Guess that remains to be seen. Arsenal case is one of the reasons they're making changes I think.
Here's the full statement in case you're interested:

"Ahead of Season 2022/23, the Premier League Board has revised its guidance for match postponements relating to insufficient players.
This will replace the previous COVID-19 match postponement guidance, providing a standard process for applications.
Club requests to the Premier League Board will continue to be considered on their facts and assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Approval will only be granted where the impact of player unavailability on a club’s squad is truly exceptional and where the club concerned has taken all reasonable steps to avoid the necessity to make the application.
The detail within all applications will continue to be scrutinised by the League’s specialist staff before the Board makes its decision.
The League's postponement rules and guidance are designed to protect the wellbeing of players and staff, while maintaining the sporting integrity of the competition and the quality of squads playing League matches."

So 9 days prep for the WC after 12th November games. If players are in the final on the 18th, have 8 days off before league game on 26th....

This year money finally kills football?

Not at all, they've had a decent rest before the season starts and most of the players in the prem would have played throughout November and December. Plus most of our players will be knocked out before the final. Meaning they'll probably gain a week or two off, they wouldn't have had if the prem games were running as per normal.

Same. Have zero excitement about any of this, as it looks like it's going to be carbon copy of the past year. Really need to try detach myself now before the season starts.

It's a fairly spread out fixture list in terms of playing the other big 6 clubs, which could help.

The boxing day and nye fixtures will be moved because of the WC apparently, my guess is one gets added onto Jan and one in March.

Easier said than done though.

Even under Ole, Jose going into the season, I had excitement, hope and was generally buzzing.

I really am fearful of how bad we might be next season.

Fairly decent fixture list for us, aside from that brutal month of October. Will be interesting to see how it all works out with the WC as well.
Already buzzing to get started, but please it can't be worse than how the previous season went. Right...right? :nervous:

Liverpool early on could make or break the season.

If they dick us again, hard to see us mentally recovering from that

Yeah it's been a while since we've had a proper good start to the season. Mourinho in 17/18 is the last one that comes to mind when we were constantly winning 4-0 and Lukaku scored in basically every game.

More often than not we have a shite start and it feels like it really derails the season when the negativity kicks in.

The number of games being played in October is bonkers when you factor in the likelihood of European games and potentially league cup too.

Happy with that. Its hard to look at any fixture at the moment and feel confident, but in truth this is a decent set. Out of the first 7 games, the 2 big teams are at home and the other 5 are mid-tablers at best. October is the only time when we seem to get a long string of tough games one after another. The run in is fine, though it always ends up changing anyway so lets wait and see.

Really weird looking for the December fixtures and then realising how cocked up the whole thing is going to be.

Not sure why this thread isn't in the United section rather than "football" one but anyone, we'll see how far off title contenders we are nice and early: 20th august (what amerians might call game day three)

meanwhile, anyone got any idea why the season starts on a Sunday, for the first time ever?
