Do we think Vardy will take it? Seems unlikely anyone will hit 30 this season but I think Vardy will get at least 25.

Here’s the current top five:

Jamie Vardy = 17 goals
Danny Ings/Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang/Marcus Rashford = 14 goals
Tammy Abraham/Sergio Aguero = 13 goals

Mane, Sterling, Kane & Salah are all in double figures.

It's Aguero's if he wants it. Needs to stay fit though which is always the case with him. Vardy will fall away. Current boot holder, Auba, quietly doing his business again. My favourite if Kun is back on the treatment table.

I'll go with Vardy. Would say Aguero but he's injured far too often.

I feel Aubameyang won't be anywhere near if he has to stick to this new role of a tracking back LW. He's going to get burned out every week.
I'd go for Vardy just because Aguero just can't play every game anymore.

Worth of note is that Vardy is only 3 goals away from 100 league goals.

Quite an achievement. He's truly been amazing for Leicester.

Don't think Aguero will be close, with the title gone jesus will play a lot to rest kin for cup games, CL etc...

Its vardys to lose. A salah purple patch might push him into contention but I can't see anyone but vardy.

Auba is playing as a winger, rashford is too streaky. Ings will dry up.

Always thought he would end up at Arsenal but didn’t work out.

Why's Rashford last in the 3 with 14 goals?

Ah Liverpool fan I see

I’ve updated the OP following Aguero’s hat trick.

19 - Vardy
17 - Salah, Auba
16 - Aguero, Ings
15 - Mane, Jimenez
14 - Rashford, Martial
13 - Abraham, Lewin
12 - Kane, Sterling

Time for a late surge from our boys.

Really hard to call. Vardy is totally out of form. Auba plays for Arsenal.
Salah and Mane might get rested after they have won the title.
Aguero is out.
Jimenez do not score enough I feel to get a burst of form.
Could be time for Martial or Rashford, but I doubt they will catch Vardy.

I think Salah has a good chance of grabbing it now. Jiminez doing well post lockdown but probably a bit too far behind.

Surprised to see Kane so low, has he missed that many games?

Yeah, Salah's probably winning it. Vardy does like a big game goal though, and Leicester have plenty of those coming up.

Potentially 3 years in a row for Salah. Incredible player who really doesn’t get the respect he deserves, generally.

He was injured for quite a big chunk of the season (since January until the league went on a break). Spurs' poor form didn't help things either.

Salah 2017-20 is one of the best peaks the Premier League has ever seen from any player.

No one mentioning Ings? Between him and Salah for me

Wowsers, that's some record. Any other player win three in a row? Rooney? Cole? Henry?
Henry won the award 3 years in a row.

03/04 - 30 goals
04/05 - 25 goals
05/06 - 27 goals

Salah loves an individual award. He will be going all out for this with nothing else to play for after league is over, and I think he will get it.

Aye, he had chances in the last game of the 02/03 season vs Sunderland but squared the ball to Ljungberg.

His assist contributions throughout his time with Arsenal were insane.

Probably nostalgia but I still feel the top strikers in the Prem from 00-10 had more of that "special" wow feel.

Tough to see where this will go. Leicester seem shy of goals lately, Vardy has been on 19 goals for how long now? I would have had my money on Aguero all day until his injury. I’d say it’s between Salah and Aubemayang even with Vardy 2 ahead but all it takes is a performance like Martials today to propel someone into the driving seat.

Aubameyang now joint top with a listless Vardy. Seems to be on for a second Golden Boot in a row. He is also now the fastest Arsenal player ever to reach 50 goals, in a generally crappy Arsenal team. Aubameyang under-rated?

I would say that overall goalscoring standards have dropped in the PL a bit. A couple of years back, Harry Kane finished second despite scoring 30 goals. Normally, every season there used to be at least one player with more than 25 goals. Now we're on track to have back to back seasons with no one doing that.

Yes that's fair. I don't know how likely it is all the strikers have turned crappy at the same time mind, it's possible but could also be due to better defences or tactical changes. Cleverer folk than I might address that one.

This is the hardest season (bar last year) to call a golden boot winner since I started watching the PL in 2008.

Contenders:
Vardy - Joint-top atm but is a WC striker in an out of form team, so gets no service. Tough fixture list. Not likely.
Auba - Joint-top and one of the top strikers in football but plays in a shite team on the left :houllier: Tough fixture list. Maybe.
Ings - 1 behind Vardy and Auba. On top form and is a big fish in a small pond. That’s a problem though, poor service. Maybe.
Salah and Mane - Job done and will be rested. On the beach. No.
Kane - Top striker but too far behind. Can spree but not likely due to the Mourinho factor. No.
Sterling - Too far behind, off form and doesn’t even have spree potential. Resounding no.
Martial and Rashford - There’s the problem. Martial AND Rashford. Top strikers but shares goals with each other, Bruno and Greenwood. Would love it to be one of them but no.
DCL - Not a top striker. Big no.

Will be contested between Auba and Ings for me, and will also likely go down to the final 3 games, where both Arsenal and Saints have decent fixtures. Could end up sharing like last year, but in the interest of not being boring, I’ll go:
1) Auba
2) Ings
3) Mane
4) Vardy, Salah
5) Rashford, Martial, Kane
