"Preseason results mean nothing"

Means heck all, the final preseason match might serve as some sort of indicator but overall preseason form doesn’t really translate all that much to competitive games irrespective if you play well or not during the summer.

If the team wasn’t so fragile mentally, the results wouldn’t really matter—just the fitness, reps, etc. However, imagine the media reaction (and this place) if they’d lost the past two matches 2-6 on aggregate because they were trying stuff out—not caring about the result. So, since the team is low on credit, the results do matter. Quite a bit actually.

It’s just good to see us playing as a team and the atmosphere in training looks a lot better. Players all pulling in the same direction and seeing smiles on faces…. This will help us be successful. Amorim is the man to turn us around and I’ve backed him from the start and still do.

Matters for confidence, fitness, and tactical familiarity. Winning is nice as it's usually an indicator of the prior three, but not necessary.

I would say the opposite in our case.

This bunch is so used to losing games, so for me we need to win all this meaningless games, just so they remember what it feels to win games and get used to it again.
