Press conference and other interviews thread

I find the line that "big players for me is not maybe big players for you" to be quite revealing. I think we might need to seriously temper our expectations for this summer transfer window as the signings may be quite left field at first glance. I am not worried by that, we have had plenty of big names flop in recent years so if the scouting is good I am quite excited by the thought of uncovering some hidden gems and not paying through the nose for washed up veterans.

You missed the thread where we are signing Valverde and Gyokeres then?

Yup. It means we're probably not signing any big player.

That was a pretty sneaky press conference, they really tried to trip them up. Starting with asking Amorim a question and then asking Garnacho "how does that make you feel". Thought Garnacho shut everything down perfectly. Amorim could have done without saying "I feel we need to score".

The vultures are circling.

Can someone please explain to me the Yoro comments? Did he mean that he is an injury worry for next season?

What Kind of Reinforcement Does Manchester United Need? Julio Loren Carrasco – The ‘Chilean Haaland’.

At just 17 years old, standing 1.82m tall with a powerful left foot and an imposing physical presence, Julio Loren chilean haaland represents exactly the type of under-the-radar signing that elite clubs should be targeting before he breaks through. A central striker from northern Chile, Carrasco combines natural goal-scoring instinct with explosive pace, strength on the ball, aerial dominance, and a driven, professional mindset.

Currently playing at an amateur level with Club Yungay Iquique, Carrasco offers a rare opportunity: a high-upside investment with no transfer barriers. He’s a pure talent with the characteristics modern football demands – lethal finishing, game intelligence, physical power, and the hunger to succeed at the top level.

Is he the next Julián Álvarez or a South American Haaland in the making? Whatever the comparison, one thing is certain: Julio isn’t just a promising youngster – he’s a potential game-changer. For a club like Manchester United seeking to build for the future, Carrasco is a forward worth serious consideration.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Arsenal at Old Trafford (kick-off 16:30 BST).

Here are the key lines from his news conference:

  • Amorim confirmed that Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are both out for Sunday's game. However, Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana have recovered and "are options" for the match.
  • On if new signing Benjamin Sesko is ready to play: "We didn't have lot of time, but he is ready. Physically he is ready, and that is big component in our league. He is smart. He is a guy that is thinking. He spent all afternoon working on his fitness, so he is ready to play and we will see."
  • He added: "I am very happy [with him]. He has great potential. He can play different types of football. He is going to feel the Premier League is very aggressive but he will learn and has great potential. I can see him being a striker for United for lots of years. That is why we have paid so much money for a striker that can have history in this club."
  • The United boss said a "return to Europe" is a target for them this season, but they are "going to have to fight a lot" and all they can focus on now is "to improve game by game".
  • Asked about the future of forward Rasmus Hojlund, he responded: "He is one more option. We are focused on this game and we will see. Rasmus is still our player."
  • On how confident he is with what his team will look like this campaign: "It is hard to know. We can't change everything in four weeks, but we are better. We are training harder and better and know we can cope with the demands of the game. We have new players and we need to understand what they can do in the moment. I am more confident in this moment."
  • Amorim feels it is "a good thing for Bruno [Fernandes] to stay in one position" and added: "I want Bruno near the ball and that is really important for our team, but sometimes we need Bruno near the goal. We will try to arrange game by game the best players in the best positions."
  • He is "happy" with the players he has and feels they can "cope" despite being light in midfield positions.

Fulham press conference:

Amorim on team news

"Onana is ready to play like last week, so we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper. Licha is out, Nous is out. The rest of the guys are fit"

Amorim on outgoings

"You have to talk with Jason [Wilcox]. We have a department that is responsible for that part. I'm just focused on Sunday's game. We talk every day. We talk about all the situations."

Amorim on transfers

"It's not an idea that these guys are going to leave, to play in a different club and then we'll receive another player. We don't know what is going to happen, but we're not waiting to take out someone to get another. I think the players you are talking about are not with this group at this moment."

Amorim on Hojlund

"Like a professional player [how did he react to being dropped]. We need to see. Let's wait and see when the market closes and then everything will be clear."

Amorim on Fulham

"I think it's always hard to play against Fulham. They have a clear identity, Marco Silva is really smart and they are really comfortable because they have experience and understand the league. It will be a tough match, but every game in the schedule is tough to play."

Defending set-pieces

"We need to try to analyse the opponent and put the best set up to protect the goal in set-pieces. We do it all the time and will not change because of the last goal. We need to do the same thing to the opponent"

Amorim on Mainoo's contract

"That part is with Jason [Wilcox]. He is our player. He has a contract. I didn't hear any news about that."

Amorim on the bomb squad

"I think again, I know that is not a good thing to have players in this situation, but it’s clear they want to play in a different club and that is clear. So we try to arrange everything for both parts to be happy, so I have to try to imagine to have the training with the guys that I think are going to be the future and the other guys are training and preparing for the next chapter. When the window is closed, it’s a different history. When the window is closed, we have to receive the players and in a new life, anything can happen."

Amorim on Mainoo again

"We have some issues, but we play with two midfielders and sometimes it's a different way of playing. We, and they, have to understand, especially the young players, there is spaces in the season. This is normal with a lot of games, things are going to change, but he's there, he's fighting, he's training and is one more option for us to win games."

Amorim on Mount and Shaw

"More important [than England] is for them to help Manchester United to reach our goals. They are experienced and have played a lot of matches. Mason Mount won the Champions League and Luke Shaw, I've already said, when he's fit is really a special player and you can see it every time he players. So it's really important for us to have these two guys available for more games."

Amorim on improvement

We are better, but also because we have different characteristics and we can change that during the game. We have more options and you see we play a different style with Cunha, for example, and then in the end with Sesko because he is a different player and we can use. We are improving in that department also. We are creating more chances, so we are ready for any kind of game. The biggest improvement we had [vs Arsenal] was we didn't lose the ball so many times in build-up. That was really good also for our team."

Why will Mainoo sign any extension when Amorim seems to have no role for him in the team.

Amorim on Cunha, Mount and Dalot

"They are out for this game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take. We need these guys to be a competitive team. We have very good players, who are eager to play, so we will be competitive on Sunday. But they are out."

How long will they be out for?

"I don’t want to say. If you talk to Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game. They

Amorim on City

"It’s a top team with the best coach in the league, a team that is really hard to imagine how they are going to play. We are prepared for that and we believe in our team. It will be a very good game, we know what to do, we have more training, and the table at the moment [United above City] doesn’t matter."

United have improved since Etihad win?

"I think we are a better team, if you see any aspects of the data, we are a better team. We are ready to play the game, but we need to show it on Monday."

Amorim on Lammens

"We are really pleased, he is a goalkeeper with a lot of potential. We are in the moment that the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience, but we also have to look at the present with a focus on the future so it is a bit of both. He will

Why did you sign Lammens?

"Sometimes you as a club you try to see different options, one or another. We have an option that can give us different things in the moment, but also has a great potential to be our goalkeeper for a number of years."

Will Bayindir start vs City?

How did you make that decision?

"It is the same thing I do with different positions but Altay is going to continue. It is a different league, different country, different training, different ball. So they will fight for the position."

Show of faith in Bayindir?

"I think sometimes to connect with Andre. Andre Onana did a very good season in Inter, the quality is there but in the club sometimes things is getting harder and harder but in this club the pressure is so hard in every detail sometimes you need a change. I believe in Altay he is ready to play."

Have you spoken to Viana

"We have different jobs, we have different clubs. We don’t talk about football, I am red, he is blue but we are really close friends, that will not change."

Academy player in squad record

We want to maintain that, I don’t want to be the guy to break that record, or that idea. If you see the past of Manchester United, it's built on kids who grow up here for a long time. I think that should be our goal in the future, so I should try maintain that, that is for sure."

Last word on Onana

"It could be [considered Onana staying], but I think as a club, we understood it needed a change. Sometimes it’s hard to point why, the performance, the moment, the bad luck in some moments was hard on him. Our thinking was to have a change with the goalkeepers, but I wish the best with Andre Onana. He was really good at working and helping the players. But sometimes you need to change the environment."
