Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s budget is around £150m but only for players on his summer list who become available. This includes Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Leicester’s James Maddison, Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen or West Ham’s Declan Rice. The manager, though, should prioritise Rice, Eriksen, Maddison or another midfielder as this is his weakest department. No one should leave unless, say, Nemanja Matic demands a move and the offer is good. JJ

JJ

We aren't signing anyone then as nobody is going to become magically available in January from our top targets. Sigh.

Then the problem there is without them we might not hit the position we want, so those players will either stay where they are or go to a club with CL football. Surely they are not our only targets? If yes, then does that mean if those players are not coming to us in the summer he will spend months trying to think of alternatives? I just hope we can keep up the good form to the end of the season. It is a vicious circle. I suspect Ole and the 'hierarchy' still think players will sign because of our history and name.

Aye, what we should really be doing is looking at young players breaking through in the top 5 leagues and taking a few punts in January.
