A team like theirs should be blowing the likes of Brugge, Rennes, Metz and Angers away even if all 11 players aren’t at their best. Realistically, it’s not outlandish to say that a team with Neymar, Mbappe and Messi up front should be winning most Ligue 1 games with 10 men!

Not working out like that for them this season though. It can only boil down to Pochettino, as even though they’ll win the league by about 20 points, they won’t get anywhere in the CL in their current trajectory. Just so unbalanced, and Pochettino hasn’t fixed the issue since somehow losing the title to an average Lille side who are getting found out badly this season without Galtier. He still thinks playing Di Maria with the front 3 can work, which is immense levels of stubbornness.
They are still comfortably 9 points ahead in the table.

Indeed, hence my point that they will still win Ligue 1 by 20 points. Their problem is poor performances almost week in week out getting masked by moments of individual brilliance, similar to us. The difference is purely that teams in Ligue 1 are less likely to capitalise than teams in the PL.

Also, Ligue 1 is an extremely easy league for them to win this season. Lille lost their manager, Monaco will never do anything until they find another super team and Lyon lost Depay and Cornet, the latter to Burnley.

That's a pretty good analysis. Bad coaching + poor midfield + low workrate = struggling PSG. Our only chance against strong team in the CL at the moment is relying on counter attacks. That's pretty sad when you have players like Neymar, Mbappé, Messi or Verratti.
Yeah, I must say that I didn’t even enjoy your performance against City, albeit I definitely enjoyed Messi’s goal. It just felt off for a team with on paper a better side to get outplayed like that. If I was the manager, I think I’d go for something like this most weeks once Ramos returns, with Messi false 9 and Neymar and Mbappe as wide forwards:

Donnarumma
Marquinhos Ramos Kimpembe
Hakimi Gueye Verratti Bernat
Messi
Mbappe Neymar

Feels like the only way to maintain some defensive balance with a less attacking LWB, 3 CBs and Gueye, while getting all of Hakimi, Verratti and the front 3 into the team. Due to the sheer quality of the team, all Poch needs to do for me is find this balance, and you should at least contest the CL final again. In fairness, we’re having a similar problem, just with coaching.

That’s the point though. Neymar is brilliant, but because of decisions he has made and his lack of commitment, he won’t be the legend that he should have been.

I get your points about Ronaldinho, but his heights were far, far higher. He was alone as the very best in the world at one point. It’s not Neymars fault that he isn’t at that level, but it’s certainly his fault that he hasn’t made a better go of it.

His commitment at Barcelona was an issue too, but he wasn’t a team leader there and the result was a highly successful treble winning side.

He just isn’t playing in enough high profile games for PSG to be remembered for the player he is. Poor choices and a lack of commitment have meant he has underachieved in my eyes.

It might have been at any club, you’re right, but Ligue 1 allows players like him to be at second gear. I just think, for a player with aspirations like Neymar, it was a poor career move.

Perfect for someone like Messi at 34, but poor for a Neymar at 27.
Not to derail this too much but Ronaldinho was not alone at the top, Henry was right there as well during that time and should have had one of Ronnie's two PotY awards, mainly the first one as Ronnie was other-worldly for the second one. Ronaldinho is one of the most overrated legends of the game, the guy had two years of peak level and dropped off massively starting with the 2006 world cup. Yet you have people putting him in their top 5 all-time. Craziness but everybody's got an opinion. Neymar is a better player than Ronaldinho if you give me a choice between the two.

I actually agree that his peak was too short and also agree that he wouldn’t be anywhere near a Top 5 of all time, but his very peak is levels above Neymar for me. He was absolutely magical at his best and far and away the best player in the world for me.

Yes, it was too short though and probably overly romanticized by fans.

Ronaldinho isnt overrated. His peak was just shortlived but really awesome.

Football doesn't work on paper, this isn't FIFA.

France got knocked out in the last Euro by Switzerland whose only player in a big club was Xhaqiri (Liverpool), the rest playing for tier 2-3 teams, while France had players in Bayern,Barcelona,Madrid,Man Utd,PSG,etc

England with a full starting XI from PL got knocked out by Iceland in 2016, whose manager was a part time dentist.

No way PSG is winning the league with 10 players, the team looks super imbalanced to do that.
Bayern Munich and Liverpool would do it, not PSG.

I’d argue otherwise. Have you seen the weekly team sheets of Ligue 1 teams? Poch can’t even find the required balance now and they’re ahead by 9 points. It’s the job of the manager to find that balance (back 3 for me in terms of this PSG team), and with that added to their arsenal, a team like theirs should genuinely be winning it with 10 men

There is nothing that secure they would win with 10 men, their defending is so underwhelming, that they even struggle to defend properly in Ligue 1 games btw.

They are only leading 9 points because the rest of the teams are super irregular, they were leading this way the first part of the last season and then dropped points in the second part, and eventually lost the title to Lille.
The addition of Messi doesn't solve the imbalance they had last season.

Watch us get Ole when he's sacked

Also, I'm rely bothered by the fact that our south american players are pretty bad after international breaks. Messi and Neymar both had amazing performances with their national teams a week ago and sucked tonight.

Sounds like Ramos' career could be over (played only four times in last 10 months):

Sergio Ramos pushed his body to the limit in order to play vs Bilbao in the Super Cup & then vs Chelsea in UCL. His leg does not respond to treatment as originally thought in order to recover from his soleus injury, hence there is no definitive return. (Anton Meana)

Paris Saint-Germain are considering rescinding Sergio Ramos’ contract. The Spaniard has not played since May and internal sources believe the club has made a mistake with his signing. (Le Parisien)

PSG doctors had expressed doubts about Sergio Ramos’ ability to return to the very high level from his very first medicals, since leaving Real Madrid. (Abdellah Boulma)

Wouldn't surprise me if Ramos, his agent knew this when making the transfer. Knew he wouldn't play but would have to get a huge payoff to be released.

The PSG doctors dropped the ball. They should have been adamant in their recommendation to the management not to sign him.

Shame for them. Ramos is the sort of character their team could have used to drive them forward.

I actually happen to agree with you. Ronaldinho had a great, great peak, but he didn't have the same kind of long term dominance many of the other all time greats have had. That said, his technical ability is right up there with anyone's, including Messi and Maradona.

Ronaldino Winning the copa America in 1999, olympics 2000, World Cup 2002. Then dominated la Liga 2005 and 2006 league titles and champions league 2006 (Spanish cup 2005 and 2005 too).

If you say he only peaked properly between 2004-2006, then when did Maradona peak? 1985-1987? And he was the greatest.

Platini peaked 1982-1985
Cryuff peaked 1971-1974
Best peaked 1967-1970
Pele peaked 1960-1964
Guilt peaked 1988-1991
Zidane peaked 1999-2003
Henry peaked 2002-2005

Every great player only peaks for 3 years max. The rest of the time they are still great players, but not at their highest peak.

One thing that Messi and Ronaldo have one all the other players is they have peaked the longest, so that’s why they will always be mentioned as all time greats.

Didn't Pelé say that his 1970 version was the best ever?

Kimpembe is a fecking awful defender IMO. Marquinhos probably let them down the most, due to him being the captain and putting in a Maguire like performance, but that was a painful watch from the whole back line.

Is Zidane interested in the job?

I think they should also throw a bag of money at Conte even if his European record isn't stellar.

Do you think the capitulation should be shouldered by Poch today or on certain players? Its tough to cut through the hyperbole on the caf but you're a close follower of the team.

Poch should have shutdown the shop and played counter with pace of Neymar and mbappe.

All this out scoring opponents never work out in knock outs unless you are behind in the tie. Its on poch as much as players.

Wasn't it Kimpembe who messed up the game against United giving away a penalty in the last minute?

PSG is lacking quality in defense, they have thrown all the money in attack.

Absolutely hilarious stuff. A capitulation that made our defence look world class and our play look impossibly well drilled. One of the worse halves Ive ever seen from a team supposedly in contention for the CL.

I think first and foremost, the stupidity of the backline cost them. Stupid mistakes in possession, their captain had an absolute mare and everyone followed suit back there. Menses is pretty young and inexperienced, so will chalk his mistakes to that and he gets a pass.

That being said, Poch just sat there and watched them fall apart. He also decided to take off the only defensive player having a good game in Danilo, when chasing the game, which was just bizarre.

It was obvious that all be needed to do was play on the counter with Mbappe, but decided to just let everyone do their thing. Got a very Ole "just vibes" feel from the approach, which has been a big concern during his tenure. I hope we steer clear.

Indeed he was, although that was a bit of a farcical decision. He has a rash streak and he could have easily been sent off as well.

And he was the one messing up the most for France against the Swiss last Euros, awful defender.

Maguire & Rashford for Hakimi & Verratti straight swap.
