Put the post-Fergie managers in order in terms of when would've been best that they took over?

Not including ragnick, With the managers that we have had post fergie, what would have been the most ideal order in terms of them taking over as manager of united?

Mourinho - had the character to replace fergie, to take control of transfer business whilst woodward was starting his first summer of transfer dealings and probably would have liked the team we had at that point.
Ole - best choice to takeover from Mourinho once he self imploded to help bring back vibes and smiles in the dressing room
Van gaal - to install some actual philosophy and coaching within the team post ole's make believe united way of playing.
Moyes - would have less pressure on him after the 3 failed managers and given more time and freedom to build his side and not being heavily handicapped by a complete novice in transfer dealings like woodward was.

Mourinho to rinse the squad dry - possibly eek out another title but a few pieces of silverware at least for a few years.

Then none of them

Mourinho should have followed Fergie and that's it.

Moyes and Ole nowhere near good enough to manage a top side, ever. LVG was too close to retirement to ever be given the job.

Mourinho - tried the build the squad but is toxic asf.

Ole - tried to build the squad but just a bit shit

Moyes - didn't get a chance at all, role a bit to big for him at the time

Van Gaal - actively destroyed the squad and set the club back 5 years

You should revise the thread title, cause people are just doing rankings again... Maybe 'In what order should we have hired our managers post-Fergie?'

I kinda agree with your order, but the problem is Moyes. But then he doesn fit anywhere. Maybe rather put him after Ole, so the club can really hit rock bottom, and then hire Van Gaal as a first step towards a more progressive football style. Not that Van Gaal really succeeded in installing that, but at least his general approach is something others could build on. Even Rangnick's appointment would kinda fit after Van Gaal.

If they had to all happen.

van Gaal - Has to happen the earliest because he was so past it when he managed us it couldn't possibly happen any later. Might've done better with the squad and still had a decent reputation.
Mourinho - Similar timeline, would've likely still won trophies like he did with us before his boom-bust cycle shortened dramatically.
Solskjaer - Rebuilds the squad after Mou signs a load of older players and falls out with them.
Moyes - Less pressure on him and is a good manager. Might not work out but probably the best position for him.

If we’re going of trophy’s won then I’d go
Mourinho
Van gaal
Ole
Moyes

if we mean in general then I’d probably go Solskjær
Van gaal
Mourinho
Moyes

Solskjær and the players had a great relationship and Solskjær actually built the squad and signed some of the best players we’ve had for a while. None of there styles of play was good, although we did sometimes play some sexy football under Solskjær, van gaal had a decent record against the top teams, the game I enjoyed most under van gaal was the 2-1 win at anfield followed by the 4-2 win against city at old Trafford. Mourinho was just so boring and negative. Moyes was awful aswell but didn’t get the backing from the board.

Could you update the thread title? Half the posts are simple rankings again. We've had far too much of that already, while the actual thread topic is fresh (as far as I know) and more interesting.

Jose straight after Ferguson left would've been the best time for him to join.
Moyes - after Jose
LVG - 40 years ago
Solskjaer - never

Van Gaal should have been the Fergie replacement. I think in 13-14 he could have done a good job with the squad we still had, so 14-15 would have been an improvement on that, instead of his first season.

If you sacked Van Gaal after 14-15 and put Mourinho there, he possibly would have lasted three full seasons with more trophies.

No idea as to where to fit in Ole and Moyes though.

Looking back, Mourinho received the kind of financial support that Van Gaal didn't get. If Van Gaal had been backed in the transfer market, possibly would have done a better job.

Mourinho should had take right after SAF but aside from him the other 3 are very different. Ideally you shouldn't be appointing the likes of Ole and Moyes was also a quite underwhelming appoint although a vastly more acomplished manager than Ole. So the right order would had been not appoint any of them an instead trying to go for a progressive manager from the start, like getting someone like Klopp, because the thing is no matter the order I don't think the outcome would be much different with that set of managers.

Mourinho might still have been serviceable for a couple of seasons after 2013. Moyes and Ole would never have been a success here, Van Gaal only with a time machine.

Ole - take over a winning team and keep morale up for as long as he can until he hits his ceiling
LVG - turn us into a tactical team with proper philosophy, one of the first to start using 3 at the back (gb's favourite formation)
Moyes - now that we are a tactically disciplined team, it should be easier for him to implement his ideas
Jose - never. already on the decline after madrid

what is this revisionist BS.
Sure, Mourinho didn't win the premier league at United, and disappointed at Spurs. But questioning whether he would have been "serviceable for a couple of season after 2013"?

The guy left Madrid at the end of 2013 to join Chelsea and won them the league title in 2015. A full 2 years after we are questioning his credentials as servicable for our sacred and failing United DNA.

Yeah. Cos Jose, upon leaving Madrid, transformed a Chelsea side and won the premier league in 2015 in his second full season there.
Not sure what you mean by transform, they were already a very strong top 3 side, he came and won the league after Fergie retired, City and Liverpool still in transition, and Arsenal finished 3rd that year ffs. After his implosion, Conte came in the next year and immediately won it again. He was done after Madrid.

I think had Mourinho taken over straight for Sir Alex we would have at least been competitive in 2013. Our transfer window wouldn't have signed only Fellaini for a start.

You really only have an argument for the Mourinho one as he was still winning titles at that stage. Given how things went you wouldn't have any of the rest of them.

Mourinho right after Sir Alex, he still had it in that time. All the others would have failed no matter in which time line.

how can you say he was done after Madrid. The guy won a premier league title in 2015.
Our whole football club has only had 2 people since 1911 (Busby and SAF) who have won the premier league/first devision. So, what's that.. 111 years.
And yet, someone who managed to win in 2015 was apparently "done" a few years earlier. get real mate.

Stupid post. Ranieri won it the year after, should he have come then? You are also ignoring the fact that he took them into the relegation zone in just a few months after winning that title. Not to mention that if he came here, he would have had to change the system and implement his style, which would take time, more than enough time for him to clash with the egos. He returned to familiar surroundings at Chelsea where he is a legend there. And he still fecked it up.

Mourinho right after Fergie to potentially squeeze out something from Fergie's left over squad
Louis Van Gaal to push the reset button

Moyes & Solskjaer - never. Should've hired one of the german hipsters after LVG

It wasn't a Jose team at all when SAF retired. He also would have struggled with that team.

If you think someone who won the premier league trophy was ‘finished’ then that just shows you how highly you rate him! You must of thought he is the best manager of all time in his prime :)

Calm down - I meant Mourinho, although past his peak, was still a good manager in 2013, as shown by that last title with Chelsea.

However he was in steeper decline by the time he joined us and is now only fit for Russia or Turkey.

Mourinho as he would have got a lot out of the old title winning squad.

Ole to come in again to lift everyone's spirit.

Moyes to bring more discipline.

LVG, yes he is pretty ancient now, but with him building a possession based side would make the most sense.

Then comes Rangnick and then whoever comes in the summer.

This seems to be the smoothest tactical and personnel transition.

Mourinho never stopped being one of the best managers after 2006.

In 2009 he won the champions league, Seria A, and Coppa Italia with an average Inter Milan side.

The guy is just a winner even if you don’t like his football, without a doubt in the top 3 of all time.

At one point perhaps. Since then he's been surpassed by the likes of Klopp and Pep. That period was his finest.
