And here's another one for the second quarter final. Post in this thread if you love Redcafe and hate megathreads. Each post in this thread is like scythe that cuts right into the very concept of of a megathread. We don't yet know whether Spain or Belgium will qualify, but the real winner will be Redcafe.

Yeah hard to get behind Belgium for an upset against Spain given they're actually just not that good, nor a great story like Egypt would have been. If they somehow win this one, we're only going to get an underwhelming semi-final.

Bit unfair on us (Belgium), we were slow to get started, but feel like some momentum is building.

Some stats:
- Second most goals scored
- Most attempts at goal (!)

Plus our defence can be shaky, so you know there will be a lot of goals
 
Competing match threads, something I never thought we'd have

But also it's fine from here on probably. All matches at good times, only 4 of them in this round. Doing the previous 100 matches as individual threads would've been chaos and who actually wants to make all those threads

Supposedly dropping Doku and KDB has transformed them, I saw their first game and they were a tough watch but look like they've found a set up that works.

Them were the days Gazza. So many interesting threads every day in the footie forum. So much dynamism and variety. So much chatter.

The posters we have today are all excellent posters but the forum itself is like an enormous overgrown forest of megathread shaped oaks and you can hardly see where you're looking.

Also I've just realised it was you who was starting the round by round threads. :lol: Just to clarify, all this ranting is nothing personal, it's all just part of my ongoing bugbear with megathreads.

For what it's worth, I didn't mean we should start 100 threads to individually cover each match. But we could have had one for each day covering 3-4 matches, as we've done for tournaments in the past. Having 12,000 posts in one all-encompassing thread is a rather unwieldly outcome.

And of course, I should have stepped up myself seeing as I had a problem with it, but didn't want to get into arguments about it.

I had no issue one way or another. Before the first match I noticed nobody had started anything so then thought about what to do. And then I figured everybody would just wait for the person who did one to keep doing the others. So then I said feck it and just did one for the full round as there were so many matches in a short span, some matches at midnight or the next day in some countries, some at night here, and would've been too many threads for the group stage.

Made sense to split it up now. Just was a pain in the ass earlier and probably a laziness thing

As ever it's a reminder that how you play in the early rounds is irrelevant as long as you just do the bare minimum. People always overhype some group stage performances.

Belgium have the most chances created and the second most goals out of all teams
Spain haven't conceded yet

Just hope if Spain win they entertain a little can’t be doing with death by 1000 passes then nick a goal.
 
Spain look good but they can be taken. Question is will Belgium be brave enough to take them on? Unlike the dutchies in 2010, where they wanted to stop Spain more than they wanted to play them.
 
Can't see Belgium getting a win.

Spain might just bore their way to another world cup win. They have the midfield to dominate France with the ball.
 
Hoping for a Belgium win. My support stems from last round's sound beating of the USA.

Their public overreaction to the Balogun red card decision being overturned was so small time, justified or not. Especially given that USMNT put out such a complete nothingburger of a performance.

They're a good team, but good isn't good enough at this stage. I don't think they have the mentality to go further.
