Race for top 5 (confirmed)| Possibly 6th gets CL

This could easily go horribly wrong with these players.
Yoro and Heaven as CBs.

Maz or Dalot at RB.

Sesko or Mbuemo upfront.

Amad and Mbeumo out of form.

Casemiro and Mainoo not outrunning anyone in CM.

So many weak links. Will go to the last day.

In the league,
Villa have one win in six
Chelsea have one win in six
Brentford have one win in six
Liverpool have three wins in six from an easy run in which they failed to beat Spurs and Wolves.

Yet suddenly all these teams are going to put winning runs together!

Should’ve been done and dusted tonight and we put out a first half performance like that. Appalling from the players and management team.

i think very likely villa will pass us by the end of that stretch. Pool i could see going either way. Chelsea are the wildcard and the team we really need to focus on. Win against them and i give them pretty much no chance for them to rally at all.
The Liverpool game at OT will be a 6 pointer for the CL spots, but then Sunderland away will be tricky. Forest at home after that and then Brighton away. These are the games were Cunha and Mbeumo should be winning for us and prove why we paid so much money for them.

What is it about this club that has to make things so difficult?

Even when we get there in the end we tease the possibility of throwing it away.

I've seen this routine too many times, Chelsea are going to beat us on Saturday.
It's infuriating and happens everutime we get chance of CL football.

I just wish that some of our attacking players would start taking games by the scruff of the neck amd get us dragged over the line.

I can't remember the last game one or our wingers had their full back on toast all game and won it for us.

Exactly, apart from today we’ve been in great form, everyone is is losing and drawing regularly, 3 of them aren’t suddenly going to win every game.

When we can get rode at home by rubbish like Leeds, I really don't understand where the confidence is coming from.

Chelsea 0-3 Man City
Everton 3-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle
Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-1 Burnley
Chelsea 2-2 Leeds

6 out of 7 of Chelsea's last league results. And we're 7 points ahead of them. And there are two other teams between us, also playing poorly.

Also Liverpool still have to play all five teams around them.

60 points will be enough for a top five finish.

People are completely overreacting.

My prediction is we lose on Saturday, Liverpool beat Everton leading to an absolute meltdown in this thread. Only for us to then make it fairly comfortably.

Next four games:
Chelsea (A)
Brentford (H)
Liverpool (H)
Sunderland (A)

I am not feeling very hopeful that we'll take enough points from those games to keep Villa, Liverpool and Chelsea behind us.

Its not beyond the realms of possibility we lose all of those. Brentford one of our (many) bogey teams. Liverpool who we're generally shit against and 2 tough away games.

I don't want to make excuses but that month long break at a crucial time in the season has done us no favours whatsoever.

Chelsea 0-3 Man City
Everton 3-0 Chelsea
Chelsea 0-1 Newcastle
Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea
Chelsea 1-1 Burnley
Chelsea 2-2 Leeds

Its not just Chelsea to worry about though. One or two of Brentford/Brighton/Everton/Sunderland could finish on 60ish points. We still have to play 3 of those teams. We also have Liverpool and Chelsea to come. So 5 of our remaining 6 games are against top 5 "rivals".

The good news is we can basically draw our way to top 5 at this point but a couple more losses and it's going to get tense.

Think it will be a draw at Chelsea, but this is likely. Utd are pretty safe unless there is an absolute melt down and somehow three other teams that can't win start putting runs together out of there arse.

If we manage to mess it up from here, given who we're competing with for the spots it would be mad. I'm not worried yet. It was obvious we'd drop more points, but so will everyone else. We'll do enough.

As usual this team don’t show any urgency unless their backs are against the wall. Utd need a manager that can get them playing full pelt from the start. Not sure who that is though.
Maybe Iraola looking at Bournemouth on Saturday

We will still get there but its going to be extremely bumpy if Chelsea beat us.

People are talking as if we won't need to win any more games because others are so bad, but I don't think that's true. We're still going to have to win multiple games most likely, and tonight has shown this team cannot be trusted to win games they're supposed to win. I've been saying for weeks when every game you play is 50/50 and you're not able to win games comfortably, you're never that far away from a string of bad results when variance is suddenly against you.

I've seen this script before, and we almost always lose against Chelsea on Saturday in this scenario. The club is addicted to making things as difficult as possible for ourselves.

We'll have a 4 point lead over 6th with 5 games to go, and a worse GD than Chelsea in 6th.

I still think we'll hold on from there but there's a very real chance we blow it if we don't get a result on Saturday.

We were at 95% which feels like it's wrapped up. Opta odds of us getting CL has dropped to 92% after tonight - but I'll be interested to see if we lose against Chelsea - presumably will drop to around 80% and then people will have to acknowledge the statistical chance of us blowing it is real.

One thing is for sure. Its definitely not Michael Carrick. Good job doing the bare minimum and not being an absolute clown of a manager that Amorim was but last game of the season should be his last day in the job.

Still feel we'll walk this, and I'm never too confident in United these days. If it was 1 team that we needed to overtake us I'd say we'd struggle, 2 and it would be nervy, but I can't see 3 teams all putting it together when they haven't done all year, and are all probably in their worst form of the season.

We showed fight in the 2nd half yesterday and that will be enough to grind out a couple of results and get us over the line. I don't feel anyone would be shocked if we beat Chelsea next week and put it out of doubt again.

The only thing stopping us from tumbling out of the top 5 is the poor quality and inconsistency of the teams challenging us.

If Chelsea had anyone other than Linkedin Liam, I'd be extremely concerned RN.

Not confident.

We struggle against Brighton. Chelsea and Liverpool will be tricky games even though they are in awful form. We have not been great against Forest in the last few seasons. Sunderland away is tricky.

Leeds was our only ‘easy’ fixture and we screwed that up badly. We need to wake up and can’t afford to keep starting slowly in games or sleepwalking through them. The next two games are against teams that are both fighting for 5th, if we manage to win those, then we pretty much have secured champions league, but that’s easier said than done.

It's the same every year. Teams chasing the top four outside of the (usually) two teams chasing the league are generally stuttering and spluttering over the finish line.

I just hope that we can actually get the CL spot wrapped up the next matches. Whatever Chelsea, Villa, or Liverpool did the last 3, 5, or 8 matches really not matter because any of them can get going from next matches.

I think many of us still worry because we know that our players capable of capitulated. We have this tendency and history the last few years and its not beyond us as we can see with Leeds. Lose the next match against Chelsea and things will get tricky with Brentford. Liverpool always a one off as they can always mount a win against us. So we kinda have ourselves to blame with this lost against Leeds. Cant relax until the math is done and dusted.

We've been shit for some time now, been saved by Bruno and Sesko, and that's it. Top 5 is far from guaranteed.

This doesn't look plausible at all, unless they make management changes, if we're actually being realistic.

To be fair, if we lose to Chelsea we should be utterly ashamed. They are absolutely shocking, even with them being at home we really shouldn't be dropping any points.

Sooner or later their form changes. With the players they have, it's just not going to happen that they keep losing, and we lost to Leeds, so..

A terrible defeat last night but let's hope it sharpens the focus and realistically we only need to avoid defeat against Chelsea and I think top 5 is all but guaranteed.

Our loss to Leeds is consistent with the way we've been performing. Again, people are judging Chelsea on their name and not what's actually happening in reality, they look hopeless. Look at the games they've actually won under their new boss, apart from his first game in charge in the league it's mostly dross.

Their form will change if they do a Chelsea and throw the current plan in the bin and hire a new manager.

I think rather than about other teams, i just have this feeling that we can as likely going to mess up any good chances of sealing that CL spot. Think i just have not that much confident with our team esp the last 2 years. We have good chances the last 10 matches to get far from others but always make our hard by not taking advantages. Hope the next matches can seal the CL place but little hope there. Probably have to go to the wire with everyone inconsistency.

They're in poor form, but they're not that bad. They've played Arsenal, City, Villa and PSG twice in the last two months. They crushed Villa 4-1 and kept up with PSG the first game, also kept up with Arsenal until their 2-1 goal and then Neto got a red card. They had a shocking performance against Everton, but so did we. It is absolutely not a given that we should win to Chelsea away. Our performance last night should be proof of that.

It would be an impressively woeful turn of events for us to finish outside of the top 5, its just not realistic. At this point I'll still be disappointed if we don't finish 3rd, but seeing where we were a few months ago, getting CL this season will be a miraculous recovery.
