On these videos I mainly see a keeper who boots the ball wide most of the time. Surely not Manuel Neuer reborn.
Nothing against him and maybe he will come good as he shows signs of good positioning, dominance and trying to palm the ball out of danger (although not that succesful), but he clearly is no short term solution.

There are a few people who are overexcited, and yes one of the reasons is our current keepers are appalling.
We should just let him get games. It’s a good league. My City friends are very happy with him thus far, but there will be mistakes.
Let a young player develop and get games, we don’t need to be analysing his every game. Far too early to judge him.
Let’s me satisfied that we potentially have got a loan right - that’s a good start!

Vitek is not good with the ball at this feet. He's fine shot stopper and has good positional awareness. But painting him as good enough for our first team is flawed.

There wasn't much else he could've done to prevent the Derby goal. Bristol City's backline lost their discipline and positioning which allowed the space to open up on the left which gave Derby the opportunity to score the goal. Apart from that he didn't really have too much to do in the game and Bristol City were in control for large parts of the game.
Vitek's distribution has always been his weakest attribute. And the head coach at Bristol City (Gerhard Struber) doesn't really want his teams to play out from the back, hence their backline has a starting position that is quite high up the pitch from goalkicks. So off course you still need your keeper to be somewhat accurate with the long passes into the channels but that can only improve.
Liverpool signed Giorgi Mamardashvili who isn't known to be very good as far as distribution is concerned but if you listen to the player himself, he says he signed for Liverpool due to the prospect of taking over from Allison once he leaves the club. And it does seem from his words that Liverpool have brought him in early with a view for him to be their longterm keeper.
And what Mamardashvili and Vitek have in common is that they're both stylistically similar keepers who have attributes to be strong shot stoppers along with being dominant at helping their backline when defending against the high ball into the box.

Vitek got an 8 today from Bristol Live - "some may say Radek Vitek could have done better for Hull City’s opener, the Bristol City stopper more than made up for any role he played in that with his stop to deny Oli McBurnie in the second half. The Manchester United loanee seemed to hang in the air before sticking a strong arm out to claw the ball off the line. Another world-class stop that most goalkeepers on the planet would have been proud of."
It may just have been too much too soon, but here we are, looking to pay around £17-20m for a GK when Vitek is doing so well on loan.

We would recoup whatever we pay for Lammens by selling Bayandir and Onana. If Lammens works out, we can bring Vitek to United to back him up or even compete for the starting job.

Yes, outside the the realm of United fans who despise him, he does have a pretty good CV, so I would expect us to get about 15-20m for him at this point. Bayandir could go for another 7-10. Basically enough to eventually cover what we pay for Lammens.
You don’t think any PL side would buy Onana I assume?
Then take out the top clubs around Europe, and you aren’t left with anyone who is going to spend £15-20m on Onana. Look at how many keepers have been sold for more £20m or more in the history of the game - and you will see how unlikely it is.
There are so many alternatives available that don’t have his baggage or wages, that I can’t see anyone in for him.

If Lammens does join hopefully he does well and if Vitek keeps up his form we might have a nice problem next season. Would be a big improvement over the current predicament of which clown to pick.
A year on loan will do Vitek the world of good, made really one really top save today.
Nice to hear a loan going well. He will learn a lot from a full season there.
You don't think Henderson is at least as good as Onana?
Henderson is better. But I tohought you were talking about Kovar for a second.
Henderson should've been given a chance. But I think Vitek has the ability to be the #1 for United and I think he will be a better keeper than even Lammens due to the fact he's a giant and knows how to use his size and stature to his advantage.
We sent Kovar on loan to league 1 or two (can't remember) and he couldn't deal with the physicality. Kovar was mainly a line keeper whilst Vitek is more of a proactive keeper and relishes the challenge of claiming crosses and helping his backline out.
But I think he should spend the season out on loan and we should bring him back for preseason for the next season.

From what I’m reading he’s a decent shot stopper but poor at distribution . Hopefully he keeps Max O’ Leary out when he returns from injury otherwise we may as well recall him in January and get him to challenge tweetle dum and tweetle Dee (if we don’t sign a GK)
I don't think being as good as Onana is a high bar. Henderson is alright. Solid number two keeper for a top side. Nothing special.
He had a decent record in Serie A. Plus, we have the McTomiany Factor*.
* A decent product that was misused/mismanaged at Manchester United. All at a reasonable price.

Feck me what a save that is. I don’t understand why he wasn’t given a chance in preseason. Glad he’s doing well at Bristol City though. Looks a real talent and an all-arounder as well.
He also has a tendency to parry a lot of saves , one fantastic save over the weekend doesn’t automatically make him the best in class.Decent shot stopper ? DECENT ?????
I always thought he was really good for the youth teams. We tend to have good academy keepers as seen with Henderson, Gollini, Pereira, Kovar, and Vitek.
No but decent doesn't make him best in the class - it makes him pretty average. And as a shot stopper he is a lot more than decent
So miles ahead of our current 2 keepers, who also are terrible with their feet?
