Obviously Coventry won the Championship last season and Rushworth is English so may command a bigger fee, but the disparities in valuation shouldn't be dramatic. Rushworth is 2 years older than Vitek and only has one additional season of Championship experience.
Coventry have pl money to spend. No one in the pl needs to take a risk on him and championship clubs can't afford much

Middlesbrough agreed a deal that could rise to £20m for Lankshear from Spurs just a few weeks ago. These deals can be structured in a way that's beneficial for both parties because Vitek would probably be one of, if not the best goalkeepers in the Championship next season if they sign him and could push their promotion bid significantly.

I'll wait for the actual details to emerge but there's not much excuse to be selling him on the cheap, unless the clauses we've inserted are weighted stupidly in our favour.

I hate how pathetic we are selling our players. Vitek gets 25m easily if it was Chelsea. He's actually played a full season and proved to be good. Unlike some fecking no name in Chelsea academy

Do we even know the terms of the deal yet?

Not yet, only the rumored £7-8 millions.

Buyback means nothing really. We didn't trigger it on Alvaro when we can make some money if we did then sell him to Madrid. We likely won't do it next time too. It needs to be a hefty sell on fee.

They sold Hackney and also got a pretty significant sell-on fee from the Morgan Rogers transfer.
Speaking of Rogers - how much did City sell him for?

He would have easily cost £75m or more if it were any other club selling FFS.

Shame if true as I think he's going to be a really good keeper. If Lammens has a poor second season we might end up looking back at this wondering
.

Why can't we just loan him out again? Trafford went for 20m after a season in league 1, why are we selling the championship keeper of the year for 8m when we don't need to?

Because we’re clueless. City and Chelsea can always get decent money for their young players.

He was rated but 15mil for a league 1 keeper was a stretch to a team coached by a former Man City player, has an ok season in the PL, then down to the Championship and then has his fee double back to Man City to then spend the year on the bench. 115, thats all I'll say.

Same with Chelsea, Villa, Forrest and others. All part of this loophole.

Sure… either that or because he has 2 years left on his contract so if another loan doesn’t go well (or injury etc) then we’ll get zero

Carl Rushworth joined Coverty for £22m from Brighton.

We really are a laughing stock when it comes to selling players.

Didn't they spend 10m rising to 20 on Lankshear from spurs? It surely can't be as little as £5m

May as well loan Vitek for the season for 2-3 million loan fee than selling for 8. Another good season in the Championship and his value doubles.

If the fee for Vitek is actually around 8m, that's really poor from United. In todays market that's absolute buttons for one of the best keepers in the championship.

Trying my best to be patient and waiting until the end of the window to judge it....but is it possible we are just purely incompetent when it comes to transfers in and out?

And somehow we are still better than we were.

Completely incompetent

The fact that the only parts of the deal being reported right now are the sell-ons and buy-backs make me think it's going to be a fairly measly amount of money. Unless the sell-on is very substantial, these details are becoming fairly standard parts of deals for teams who operate well. Brighton included these clauses for Rushworth at the same time as being able to sell for a good fee.

He kept 17 clean sheets for Coventry. They obviously wanted him back

Leicester City's signing of Mads Hermanse (£7.5m) and Southampton's signing of Daniel Peretz (£6m) are the Championship's record signings of goalkeepers.

This from MEN is the key bit of context for the fee.

It's fine to think we should have got a bit more, but some of the posts above seem to have been expecting a fee that shattered the previous record, which seems a bit unrealistic.

I hoped for figure around half of what Rushworth went for

Probably because they didn’t get promoted and don’t have any money to spend but you could pretend it is something else if it makes you feel better.
No point as the truth is out there

Asking again - has anyone legitimate actually reported a price on this yet?

Also, your loan idea isn’t viable. His value would actually disappear, because next summer he’ll only have 1 year left on his contract

He wants a move to somewhere he will be first choice. He has 2 years left on his deal. We must sell this summer. Also, he’s not English - makes a big difference as we know

Given that, unless there’s a bidding war or a bidder with deep pockets (read: ideally a PL club), the market won’t yield a high price. Coventry had promotion money when they bought Rushworth, not to mention he’d actually played for them on loan and helped them get promoted - they valued him

But there are no rumors of a PL club bidding for Vitek at this point so not expecting some record-shattering fee here. Get a grip people

Neither of them had the pedigree he does though. Hermansen came from Brondby at 23. Not proven himself as one of, if not the best keeper in the league and a year younger.

I think if the fee is closer to Hermansen's fee, the context makes it look worse, to be frank.

There is an element of doing right by the player involved in the fee, which in and of itself is not a bad fee if paired with the correct sell-on %'s and if the buy back is also favourable.

Boro are coming up to their season start, Vitek has been open about wanting to move away to be a starter, not dragging this out until the end of August when a reasonable fee comes across your desk is evidence to other younger prospects (who the same fans up in arms about this fee probably want us to be more aggressive in pursuing) that if it looks like your pahtway is blocked, we will move you on in a balanced and fair way that isn't centered around maximising the initial fee.

This lad is easily £20million in the current market. Regardless of buy backs and sell on's we can't be doing business at less than that.

The record transfer for a GK to a championship side is around 7.million, where has this 20 million came from, the only way we get that is if he transfers to a PL side 8f he doesn't get a PL move which it looks like he isn't there is no way we get anywhere close to 20 million.
