If that was the case, there'd be a number of clubs bidding for him. There didn't appear to be so.
 
Yes, that's a good deal, especially the 35% sell on clause.

I really think he will be a top GK for years to come, but we can't take the risk when Lammens has been solid for us.

How would I know that?

All I can tell you is that comparing one to the other lacks context.

Rushworth keep 17 clean sheets in 46 games. He played every match. He went something like 620 minutes without conceding. A new Coventry record. Voted best GK in the Championship.
Coventry were desperate to get him back. Thats why they were happy to pay.

Vitek won’t go for as much because it’s not the same circumstances. We don’t know what the deal will be though so let’s wait and see

Edit: if it’s 14.8m that’s a good deal keeping context in mind
 
Thats a great deal if true

Either he'll be decent and we'lll see most of the bonus and get a decent sell on when he goes to a slightly bigger club.

Or he'll be amazing and we sign him back and either play him or flog him for a hefty fee.
 
Meh, not bad. £7m isn't going to do much for us though, would hope he could have commanded more upfront.
 
I'd imagine a big chunk of the add ons are dependent on promotion.

If so that's at least promising cause they seem to be spending a bucket load this summer (and now have a Premier League quality GK)
 
It's sad that the position he's in doesn't really demand rotation. All things considered its a good move for both parties. Hopefully he really kicks on from here and does well for them.
 
Could see him landing at Chelsea in another year or two with more development and if we don’t exercise the buy back

The move comes after United agreed the sale of Radek Vitek to Middlesbrough for an initial £7million. The deal could reach £14million including bonuses.

Vitek, 22, is on his way to the Championship club on a permanent move that also gives United up to a 35 per cent sell-on. Both the final fee and the future potential income are dependent on the performance of Vitek and Middlesbrough.

If Middlesbrough gain promotion and Vitek plays a certain number of games, United will gain the full potential of the transfer. United have included a buy-back option also, as well matching rights.

Lets all hope Boro get promoted!

 
Maybe could've got a slightly higher guaranteed fee but that's not too bad of a deal, all things considered. He should be activating some of those bonuses and the other clauses act as a bit of a safety net.

Generally speaking, I think it's better to let these players play football than block their pathways to first-team football. Keeping him around just to sit on the bench would've been a worse idea than sanctioning this.
 
I struggle to see how 7m base is a good deal for us. I realize there's bonuses and clauses in the deal, but that's to be expected for a talented goalkeeper. Selling's never been our strong suit, sadly.

The base fee alone is a record fee for a keeper going to the Championship
 
Base fee is quite low. 14m will be the good deal in case the condition is not too hard to achieve based on number of appearance and clean sheet. My gut feeling is Middlesbrough need to win the league and get promotion to EPL so that the club pay another 7m.
 
Shame to see him go, but that's a decent fee. Had he been thrown in during the disastrous Onana / Bayindir era, I wouldn't be surprised to see him still being our #1. He's a terrific young keeper.

But hey ho, Lammens has performed brilliantly and there's no use him sitting on the bench as his #2. Best of luck to him, I'm sure he'll outgrow the Championship very quickly.

So if there's a buyback of let's say £30m. If another club gets a bid accepted for £20m, Boro then let us know and accept any bid of £20m from us?

Is that what a first refusal is? Basically we get to try and hijack any deal without the risk of Boro giving us 'Man Utd tax'. Or am I on the wrong track here?

That's the way I understand a first refusal, yeah. But with a fee already agreed, I can't think of any example where a club wouldn't accept our offer over the same fee anyway

Same really but I guess that the flipside of that is that there's little reason for Boro to mind having that clause so it's not gonna lower what they're happy to pay us now.
 
Its a good deal. If he’s as good as people think, then that is a siginificant sell on on top of an ok fee so we’re covered. If he’s crap, then 7 million + potentially some on top of that is pretty good. No reason to complain at all really.
