7m up front isn't great, but then it's essentially a loan deal if he's any good. Assuming he's willing to come back that is, he seemed pretty eager to leave so who knows.

Carl Rushworth joined Coverty for £22m from Brighton.

We really are a laughing stock when it comes to selling players.
Coventry have pl money, they also already had him so know him. Who is going to pay that for Vitek this season? No one in the PL needs a keeper bar Chelsea and championship clubs can't spend fortunes on a keeper

Didn't they spend 10m rising to 20 on Lankshear from spurs? It surely can't be as little as £5m
One is a striker and one is a keeper. The expectations on fees some of our fanbase seem to have are wild. He’s a Championship keeper and is priced accordingly.

This is on par with record sales for a GK to clubs in the championship, if you didn't know that it's now been posted so can we stop this we could have got more stuff it's ridiculous
I know! People trying to compare it to a pl club purchase

Unfortunately complete negligence from previous regimes have limited our ability to earn massive profit off our academy players. Being successful helps as well, as city have shown, along with their former academy players thriving elsewhere. Garner and Henderson have shown their potential at other clubs, demonstrating that we have a solid academy system, but it’s going to take several years for the club to start earning massive profits on their academy players. City and Chelsea are selling on reputation, which is kind of baffling. At least there is a fairly significant sell on clause on the Vitek deal.

Doesn't sound like a bad deal to me on paper. For a kid who's never played the club.

That's the way I understand a first refusal, yeah. But with a fee already agreed, I can't think of any example where a club wouldn't accept our offer over the same fee anyway
I’m sure we could work something out around the 35% sell on as well. If we bought him back we’d essentially pay that to ourselves, meaning we’d get him 35% cheaper than any other club.

City sold Morgan Rogers for like 1.5m

To be fair I was making an assumption, but they’ve definitely sold players above £20m.

I’m not sure how much Lavia played for them but I’m certain he cost around that.

While I agree, City and Chelsea somehow get over £20m for those sorts of players.

I genuinely believe we see young Chelsea players in the first team more than at United.

This last 2 years I honestly don't recognise any of their defensive back line in the squad except Cucurella & Kounde.

I think we possibly need to stop taking the Carabao Cup so seriously and use it as a way to let our young players gain experience whilst raising their market value at the same time.

Not 20 min cameos but actual full starts.

It really is a shame we couldn't sort a premier league loan. We'd be looking at James Trafford fees next year then in theory. Minus the English tax.

Fair play to Vitek though if he wanted to go and be #1 somewhere. Can't hold that against him at all. It also stings much less when we have Lammens. Our #1 is sorted for 15 years.

And Lavia was seen as a massive talent before his injuries. Half of Europe was after him.

£14m is a pretty decent fee from a Championship side, especially for a keeper. Not that we ever use buy backs, so having it in there is probably useless in reality, but 35% sell on is also very good. Fo once I think we've sold pretty well here tbh. Wish him all the best. He's done very well on loan and is clearly a good keeper.

7M is less up-front than I’d hoped but if it becomes 10-14M then that’s a solid outcome and the 35% is much more than I expected

So if the lad is as good as we hope then we should end up doing well financially here

Yeah, one that played for Oxford United and got 1 in 4. He's not priced like one of the best keepers in the league and a massive prospect. Also that's only £4m more than Bayandir who's fecking shite.

His initial fee is reported as £8-10m though so not that different to the £7m we are supposedly getting. How much do Championship clubs usually spend on keepers?

Deal seems pretty decent. The sell on fee & buyback might knock a million or two off what we would have otherwise got for a straight sale, so that has to be factored in.

I didn’t suggest that someone was going to spend £25m or that we’d look for it.

It’s an example of how big the gap is when selling if we’re willing to take only £7m for Vitek.

Yeah, I don't think hes anywhere near the same quality. Same with Danny Imray from Palace to Wrexham for £5m. I don't think he's worth less than say, Bazunu was. It's swings and roundabouts with the sell on anyway, but we need to be better at selling our better performing players like Vitek if our budget is dependant on sales. We sold Kovar for the same amount, we're making it harder on ourselves.

Southampton were a Premier League club when they signed Bazunu, that’s the difference. From looking online, £7m seems quite high for a Championship keeper.

Yeah, it's the record fee for a Champ GK signing

Pretty gutted. hes a top talent for his position and would attract a lot of loans from promotion heading sides and his price would only go up, or never go down.

Also dont understand this ultimate backing of Lammens, he's a solid talent but he looked great half season and also had some howlers already, definitely a solid keepr but lacking top level athletics for my liking, Vitek is more commanding keeper having some absolutely wonderful saves last season. It's a one card bet from us. We should have extended and see his price go up and not panic sell. We will have also known after this season if Lemmens is the real deal. Any keeper upgrade will be around 30-40m.

I can only find one reason for why we sold him, that he would not extend and we wanted to sell to raise money for transfers. But looking at a record Championship fee for a goalie spend by Boro. They must be quite convinced he will come good. His value can tripple easily the next couple of seasons..

Vitek wanted first-team football and was pretty transparent about that in one of his interviews a few weeks ago. Whether he's highly rated internally or not, he was never going to displace Lammens going into the new season so this is the best resolution for all parties.

He gets to play and we retain clauses around his future. We still have the flexibility to revisit a deal for Vitek again if anything changes with Lammens further down the line, and if not and he still does well, we will likely benefit from the sell-on clause. If Vitek doesn't develop as expected, nothing lost.

He'd only have 1 year left on his contract after this season so his price wouldn't go up it would go down

He wanted first team Football, we need to get behind Lammens after mistake for Belgium not stick the boot in

i completely understand it. The biggest attribute a United keeper needs to have is temperament. Can they handle the scrutiny? He’s shown he can; he looks totally unflustered.
