Please come back Rafa. We miss you. :(
Brilliant rant. Not quite Keegan levels but still great. Fergie really did get to him. But I like it when Liverpool fans try to say it didn't make a difference...

Liverpool were on 45 points compared to Utd 38 (1 game in hand)
Liverpool drew 0-0 with Stoke, Utd beat Chelsea 3-0, then Wigan 1-0
Liverpool drew 1-1 with Everton, Utd beat Bolton 1-0
Liverpool drew 1-1 with Wigan, Utd beat West Brom 5-0

Ouch.

True, but he still should get the blame nonetheless. He knew what he was getting into when he signed up for the CL champions. The fact that he couldn't continue their success is proof that he isn't good enough. To put it another way, had Mourinho remained coach, Inter would have done far better with the same players and a few additions over the summer.

I personally think that he is a decent coach and would do considerably well for a national side. However consistent results in a league format is not his cup of tea.
There was no continuing or improving on that success without things getting worse first. You could say that he did worse than he should have done (like Moyes), but the idea that he was supposed to immediately continue that success (they'd won a treble) is ridiculous.

How many managers come into a job with a set of players who've just won trophies the previous season? Usually a manager is walking into a group of players who will just benefit from a fresh start and a potential upturn in poor results.
It's a unique situation for a manager to walk into. Is everyone that bothered after a season like that? Sneijder certainly didn't seem so.

Not to mention the first team was ageing - but how do you come straight in and replace half the first team, even if they deserve replacing?
Plus, Mourinho is known for developing a strong bond with certain players. Players who will struggle with losing him and someone with different methods coming in. We've seen Guardiola struggle to convince everyone that he's done as well as he should have at Bayern. And he even had a better reputation than the man he replaced.

I'd even say Mourinho probably built that squad the way he did because he knew he was leaving after that year.

Not too dissimilar to Moyes coming in here, but it was five times harder for Moyes, as some of the players he inherited had barely/never played or won under anyone else, or anyone else's methods. A number of them genuinely had no idea how to win/perform consistently without Sir Alex's methods and character, in my opinion.

Their squad has basically stood still from last season, a few signings in replaced a few going out, that was it.

Which is a problem when you don't have a defence.

Which is odd for a Benitez team.

Fantastic cup manager, doesn't understand you need to be more attacking to win the league though. Would be a great international manager for who ever can get him.

Doubt his next job will be in club management. Spain after Del Boeque?

Agree with these, you'd have to imagine international management would suit him. The demands he places on his players at club level are incredibly high, in terms of fitness, which is part of the reasoning behind what some may deem as 'rotation', or perhaps more correctly, over-rotation, at times. This in theory wouldn't be a problem at international level until major tournaments, where teams generally rotate a bit if they can anyway. Also, he wouldn't be able to buy players, where;

a) He is very hit and miss at it, and,
b) He won't have a political war over control, because as we know he's a bad control freak.

So theoretically arguably two of his biggest weaknesses from club football are eliminated, and the knockout nature of tournaments gives him the opportunity to excel at his biggest strength.

Too early. Still only 3 points behind United while having to field the likes of Townsend and Tom Davies.

Their games before Christmas: Spurs H, City A, Brentford A, Liverpool H, Arsenal H, Palace A, Chelsea A, Leicester H. Won only 1 of last 7 games in all comps so this should be quick. Benitez is a dinosaur, his actual level is a Liga club like Espanyol or so.

Will be competing for top-four this year. Everton are a Man Utd-calibre team this season.

Next matches:
Spurs at home
City away
Brentford away
Liverpool at home

Would imagine that if they do poorly in the next 3 matches and then get pummelled by Liverpool he would have a clear schedule to watch Eddie Howe's Newcastle on the weekends thinking about what could have been.

Doubt he’ll last the month.

It was an astounding move for all parties but it was classic Benitez: stubborn to a fault.
It's just job for managers. And Benitez was unemployed, and rightfully grabbed the Everton chance.

Nothing wrong in taking the job, but why Everton hired him is the big question? Rafa is out-of depth, lacking of new ideas and his own coaching record is abysmal. His job was first to improve the players on the training pitch, and obviously not good enough...

if he is sacked, who is there to come in. The 3 favourites as per the bookies are in order Denmark guy, Espirito Santo and Lampard. Bad time to be seeking managers, it's hardly an inspiring line up of potential candidates. They've always got big Dunc as interim or maybe there is an option that will fly under the radar. Maybe give Rafa more time and hope he gets Lewis back asap. Tough start to dec with Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester, but 2 last games they will be looking for points from are Burnley and Newcastle.
