Suggestions that Sterling grabbed him by the neck in the canteen?

Why is Joe Gomez even in the England squad? Guy has played 4 games totalling 98 minutes in the league.

I thought that too, maybe Sterling was so gobsmacked that Gomez was in the squad he thought he'd broken in and was trying to escort him off the premises.

He is just doing it on the order of Pep to get a rest. Now Rashford will play and get injured.

Sterling went up in my estimations. Gomez was acting a cnut yesterday. Not a fan of players trying to act hard on a pitch knowing the other player can’t do anything about it, at least Sterling had the balls to say something in private.

Not the most professional of responses though.

Hopefully they can get past whatever issues they have going forward. You could tell Sterling was pissed off by Gomez during the match.

Surprised Sterling was still upset about it.

This is the exact reason I detest the scouse lot & the media that panders to them.

For well i’m excess of a decade the likes of Beckham, Neville, Rio [& so on] would go away on international duty after winning trophy upon trophy without any “banter” going too far.

Yes there were stories of divides but results were left to speak for themselves & wouldn’t even give the time of day to players if they didn’t particularly like them.

Roll on to the present day where them idiots have finally won 1 trophy in 12/13 seasons & some upstart defender takes the banter too far.

They should both be bloody banned, don’t empower a lack of class in victory as much as telling Sterling he needs to man up in defeat.

I don't understand what the point of dropping him for one game but keeping him with the squad is? It's not like the anymosity will all of a sudden disappear. If you are going to drop him then send him home...

Gomez needs to respect his elders, innit. Bang out of order squaring up like that on the pitch.

And yeah, why is Gomez even in the squad? What has he done this year other than "star" in the 5-5 tie with Arsenal??? Did he seriously get picked over Walker???

Here we go again...Anti Liverpool. If it was any Utd player you lot would be up in arms. Stop the bashing. Southgate supports neither and has dropped our best player. He must have been bang out of order.

Where does it say that Gomez did anything other than say hello and try to shake Sterling's hand?

You talk about those days like it was a roaring success for England. You say just 'divides' but a continuous poor squad dynamic is likely to hamper the results. I remember we used to hear stories about how players were bored on international duty, and like anyone else at work if your bored that affects your motivation.

Shock horror you’re all taking Sterling’s side.

I’m not sure why Gomez is in the squad given his Liverpool form and limited appearances.

This is where it started I think:

Hey, I'm not, I think Sterling is a cnut. Watch him tattoo a chokehold on his second leg now and then claim some of his friends was murdered in canteen like that.

He unnecessarily picked Sterling up like some rag doll as was seen in the game; disrespect isn’t something I’d simply leave on the field of play.

Sterling as can be easily lip read told him “don’t f***ing touch me” [& more]. I understand why player don’t trade blows on the pitch but I’d suggest a little more respect even during a club game for a man you’re about to be sharing close quarters with less than 24 hours later.

Fair, point though; it doesn’t say Gomez didn’t just shake his hand & say hello but can you do me a favour & show me where any story has reported he did?

He certainly wouldn't do this to Ferdinand Rooney Gerrard Terry etc. England's in a weird transition where they don't have any world class captain like figures in the squad.

Guess that’s one way to look at it; I’m a growing fan of Sterling’s.

Gomez disrespected him on the pitch; he told him he’d see him again & when he did Gomez wasn’t with it.

The way I see it, had Gomez done this to Rashford only to be pictured a day or so later with arms round each other I’d actually prefer he went the Sterling route.

When you referred to taking banter too far I thought you meant Gomez provoked him on International duty.

I agree he was out of order on the pitch but these things are normally forgotten and they apparently shook hands at full time.

In the story linked in the OP it says Gomez said hello and leaned over to shake Sterling's hand and he flipped the lid altogether.

It’s right decision not sure why people are taking Sterlings side.

Sterling was getting wound up like a little baby yesterday and worked up. That’s part of the game to get in your opponents head.

Crying about it on England team is just plain stupid from him.

 "Impressed others"

Gomez is a twat but he's no fool. Sterling is seemingly a very popular player and the general media darling, go up against him in a tit for tat and there is only one winner.

If it was Kane Vs Sterling that's different.

Hadn’t seen the Mail article, my mistake. Guess we’ll never really know as we weren’t there.

I just think the whole incident spawns from Gomez getting handsy in a situation he needn’t have.

Yes most of these situations die a quick death but rival players aren’t usually off to international duty the next day together.

I’m not really looking at it as a footballer though; I just think if you manhandle someone you shouldn’t expect them to act a certain way afterwards. Raheem isn’t your typical wallflower.
