Queens Park Rangers are set to make wonder boy Raheem Sterling the youngest first-teamer in British football history to ward off Premier League big boys including Manchester United.

Rangers boss Jim Magilton (pictured) is so impressed by the 14-year-old striker - who is rated as highly as the young Wayne Rooney - he allowed him to train with the first team last week.

And the plan is to give him his debut soon after his 15th birthday next month to break the record of Barnsley's Reuben Noble-Lazarus who made his debut at 15 years and 45 days last season.

Sterling, a lightning-quick forward, already plays for Rangers Under-18s but QPR are scared that a major offer will be tabled. Sterling and his agent were VIP guests at the Liverpool's clash with United last Sunday as rumours abound of a £1million offer from one of the elite clubs.

Rangers will offer Sterling a fast track into their senior side, hoping it will convince him to stay. But it looks a losing battle as Sterling missed a meeting where he was due to sign a YTS contract and headed for the game at Anfield.

Never heard of this kid. But 14 years old is ridiculously young for championship football. Must be brilliant.

how come when we wanted to play Fletcher when he was younger we had to wait for him to get older

maybe the football league rules are different from the premier league rules, regarding the age at which a person can play for the senior team

Get our Rhaine Davis in there to break their soon-to-be record!

Lots of members on a QPR forum I looked at were quite worried about this, bodes well!

Very impressive for England under 16s tonight after coming on at half time. Involved in the lead up to the first goal and set up the second after a great run. Looks very quick and skillful

Transfer news: Manchester United lead race to land QPR wonderkid Raheem Sterling ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham - MirrorFootball.co.uk

Manchester United lead race to land QPR wonderkid

Manchester United are at the head of the queue for QPR wonder boy Raheem Sterling - and desperate to beat all of their big-money rivals.

United's youth chief Brian McClair was a VIP guest at Sterling's under-18 game at the weekend as he made a final check on the kid who has been the talk of Rangers for a couple of months.

Attacking midfielder Sterling, still just 15, was pencilled in for a record-breaking first-team game when Jim Magilton was in charge - and has also dazzled for England's young sides.

Now McClair is targetting the whizz kid for an immediate move, beating off Manchester City, Arsenal and Fulham who all want him.

The big clubs were put off by QPR's valuation when he first hit the scene at the end of last year, but now United are back in ands hoping they can thrash out a proper fee with the club's new owners and rulers.

Sterling was born in Jamaica, but raised in London. He looks the best prospect for his age and United are keen to land a player who could be a household name for years to come.

United and City are battling bitterly for top young talent just now and are also in a tug-of-war for Nigerian midfielder Azeez Ramon who was named the best in his position at the recent FIFA under-17 world cup.

The best places to go as a youngster to get your career ruined: Liverpool and Real Madrid.

I dont know what Sergio Canales and Raheem Sterling were thinking when they signed contracts with these teams.

The fact he's agreed to go to liverpool tells me the boy lacks ambition.

Canales has a good chance of immediately getting into the Real Madrid squad though, Sterling doesn't for Liverpool.

Going to be hard since he's on loan at Racing for the rest of this season and then the next one.
