Everyone needs to improve on that if we are playing this style for full 60- 90 mins a game. Probably won't happen this season though.
Or score a couple early and ease off later to save energy. If players still have to bust their gut even at 90s in most games, it means we are not quiet there yet in term of "controlling" the game.

Haha exactly. This whole debate requires you to assume Rangnick isn't smart enough to realise Ronaldo is actually quite a useful player.
It is also slightly based on this myth that Ronaldo won't work hard or isn't fit enough to. He can't get about like someone 15 years younger than him but he doesn't exactly spend games walking about or being a passenger either. I don't see why or how there'll be a problem

As Dion Dublin was saying that he would sprint 15 metres but he may not be able to do 30 metres every time. The way we are setup now it was short sprinting for everyone. Not just useless running like before.
Should have just taken up the offer to hire a coach. Could have helped immensely. They try to emulate Fergie till it's time to step out of their comfort zone. God forbid an outsider interfered with their old boys club.
Agree that Fergie was in a different era. It does not work now.

It's actually embarrassing that this topic is even a thing. The media tried to find a scapegoat for Ole's shambolic tactics.
Even if he can't press for 90 minutes, he doesn't really need to. None of the team do! At least not every game. There's hopefully going to be plenty of occasions where we only need to keep up this intense pressing for 45-60 minutes and we're a couple of goals up.
The bolded part is critical for Ronaldo I think. He doesn't generally "press" in a traditional sense, well he hadn't been doing until the last week or so, but he doesn't need to press in the same way a lot of the other players do as frankly he is so much more intelligent than most of our other attacking players in how he closes off passes for defenders and in particular the goalkeeper. This is why I've never seen any issues with him adapting to RR's style of play because if you have a player like Ronaldo cutting off a pass to 3/4 players with half a movement then it makes pressing the remaining players much easier.
It's absolutely nothing to do with Ole. You have the master of gegenpress joining United with 36 year old Ronaldo. It's easy clickbait to imply Rangnick won't want him.
Especially as Rangnick once said he wouldn't sign him if he had the opportunity.
Don't forget pressing isn't aimlessly running at players, it's about positioning and setting traps, forcing players into certain paths that we block off their channels, Ronaldo doesn't have to harry every player he can set traps quite effectively if/ when coached properly.
I think people can appreciate how some coaches/manager might like a facilitating high workrate striker leading their attack but it was an absolute piss take to suggest we were getting thrashed because of it. Scapegoating at its peak after that Liverpool sham. The biggest failings in many of those goals were barely remotely related to the final third but it was supposedly Ronaldo's fault midfielders and defenders were chasing the ball individually and leaving massive gaps in their place. We just skipped the part where we needed to employ a systemic press before talking about individuals.

Yes but you, being German and in Germany, know that quote needs contextualizing. Rangnick was being asked specific questions about how RB operate. Then the interviewer tried to get him embroiled in the Messi vs Ronaldo debate. Its not a surprise Rangnick responded in the way he did. He had been explaining why RB had chosen a recruitment strategy heavily skewed towards youth and uncovering value.
It started before Rangnick came.
Truth is Roanldo always likes to play a high line and pressure the opposition. He doesn't like tracking back and prefers to do the job in the opposition half because it means he can get more chances in transition. He doesn't like the team sitting back and him being isolated up front.
He has couple of famous moments in which he's frustrated with his coach for not telling the team to press. More recently with Allegri against Napoli in his first Juventus season.
It did, with people questioning whether both Juve and Portugal were better without him or not and people wondering how he would fit into Pep's system when City were linked with him.
Rangnick said you adapt the system to suit the players you have, so we'll see I guess although agree a high press should surely suit Ronaldo.
