Rank your side/wing-backs ever to played for Utd

Depends how you define world class I suppose. He was clearly a level below the best right-backs in the world at the time in Cafu, Zanetti and Thuram.

I know what you are saying, but Nev would have got into all but 3 of the teams in the world during his prime. Just because players in certain positions are better doesn’t mean others aren’t world class. During a period, Ronaldo, Lewa, Benzema, Aguero, Suarez, Salah, Kane and Zlatan were all world class, that’s 8 players in one position… Griezmann, Cavani and Aubameyang would be considered by some as world class during that periods too.

Circa 2012/13 Xavi, Iniesta and Modric were better than Pirlo and Kroos. But the latter two were definitely world class.

I literally said I forgot Evra in a later post

The amount of you lot quoting me saying Evra

Forgetting Evra is a felony that’s why, Sir. Certainly after putting up a post solely to claim all our full backs other than Nev and Irwin were average to crap. Of course people would jump on it.

Kind of odd to compare Salah to Kane. You'd surely compare Messi, Salah, Robben, Hazard types together and then Kane, Lewa, Aguero, Ronaldo in a broad group.

If we talk about CF's, I don't think many put Ibra and Aguero, as much both were top drawer, in the same bracket as Lewa, Kane, Ronaldo and Suarez at his pomp.
As for midfielders, Iniesta doesn't really fit with the rest, but Xavi, Pirlo, Kroos, Modric are all interchangeable depending on what you want from your CMs. Like if Mourinho at Chelsea wanted a CM, he would not be picking Xavi, whereas Xavi would be top pick for anyone wating high possession. Although to be honest I think Modric is now above all the rest given longevity, trophies, all round game (not the point of this thread but my opinion).

Main thing that counts against G Nev is athleticism but would agree he was minimum top 5 in the world so he was world class.

The discussion over Dalot and wingbacks in Amorim thread got me thinking - how do everyone rank the side/wing-backs ever to played for Utd since EPL started?

My Left-backs:
1. Irwin
2. Evra
3. Shaw
4. Silvestre
5. O’Shea
5. Blind
6. P.Neville
7. Heinze
8. Dalot
8. Rojo
9. Fabio
10. Malacia
11. Büttner (nearly forgot about this guy)

I’m not rating Dorgu yet because it is still early days.

My right-backs:
1. G.Neville
2. Wes Brown
3. Valencia
4. Rafael
5. Parker
6. Dalot
7. AWB
8. Darmian

Did I miss out anyone at RB?

I suppose the answer to this will reveal everyone’s age.

Aguero was up there. Always scored vs big teams. That’s what matters and separates world class strikers from flat track bullies

Serious lot of underrating for Paul Parker who was a brilliant right back for us until he started getting injuries in his last couple of seasons and Gary Neville came through, I’ve always believed that our double winning team of 1993/94 would have won in Europe if not for the three foreign player rule which also included Scottish and Welsh as well as Irish.

In my time:

Irwin 9/10 World Class
Evra 9/10 World Class

G.Neville 8/10 Very Good
Valencia 8/10 Very Good

the rest were average/decent to good imo.

Paul Parker was a brilliant defender and man-marker. Quick and a good tackler.

Overall in his time at United I dont remember him offering much going forward though.
Kind of like a better version of Aaron Wan-Bissaka...

I think we somehow also forget Telles, I guess that sums up how memorable his time here was

For full back position Evra and Irwin are levels above everybody else.

If we rate them based on how they would play in wing back positions then Evra and Irwin for left side and Ashley Young and Rafael for right side.

Valencia was literal nowhere near level of Neville
