The thing with football, especially when you're in a position like Rashford in this modern age of social media, it's unending pressure and critique. He is in perhaps a worse situation with everything surrounding him because a lot of fans feel let down and feel like he doesn't deliver on what he's supposed to. I think mentally Rashford probably finds it really hard and maybe is self medicating with Alcohol which is a slippery slope which will eventually affect your personal and professional life (as we've seen play out!).

Sometimes clubs and players get themselves into situations they shouldn't be in and this is one such case. I really feel for Rashford but at the same time as a fan I'm disappointed in him and his actions, it's just such a weird thing because in life if you're bad at your job you get the criticism which can be bad enough, in his role because of the popularity of football, he gets it from all angles 24/7 and there must be a sprinkle of horseshit of lies and rumour in there too, imagine having that to deal with! I wouldn't be able to handle it personally, a lot of people probably couldn't handle it. It takes a lot of mental strength.

Listen to the likes of Beckham and Cantona, this was before the crazy age of social media we live in now. Now it is surely ramped up significantly. We've seen Rashford has previously come off social media so it is clear it is having an impact... probably a serious impact.

No, they don't have to do anything, but the thing is it's still there. Even if you are not on social media as a player, you'll know people will be spouting shite about you anyway, and that would also take a toll. It's an occupational hazard and you can't really avoid it to be honest, but it doesn't stop it from being hard and on a human level I sympathise with all the players. Even back in the day before social media, you still got pelters from the media, but at least it wasn't a constant unending stream like it is now.

Human mind is interesting and would be no harm to study the mind of Rashford. As supporters we have got to see the best and worst of him. How and why he so good under Ten Hag in this first year as manager and since then has been mainly average to poor and strolling around the pitch day dreaming in a world of his own.

So if after finally scoring, after finally a good string of games, a good season, whatever, you still fall back, are not happy, etc... it's hard to turn off the self-deprecation inside the mind, or any kind of depression motor (clinically or not).

Yep...I think everyone involved is to blame here.

Rashford for, for whatever reason, giving up at the end and stop trying or being professional enough. Unforgiveable as a local lad and on such huge wages.

The club for not managing him proberly, burning him out at a young age while making him the face of the club which didnt quite match his ability at all. And giving him this ridiculous contract, which we cant pay anymore now because of a decade of missmanagement.

And also the Fanbase imo. A lot will disagree with me here. But a lot of fans were constantly at his back after one or two bad performances from the very beginning because everyone expected him to become CR7 Level. After it became clear he will not be able to perform at such levels it turned toxic quite often. It clearly affected him in the longterm and I'm sure was a reason why he downed tools with us at the end.

Our club has been (and currently still is) an absolute mess and this Story is highlighting that. I wish him all the best, i hope he finds joy again for the beautiful game at Aston Villa and helps us free up money in the summer which we hopefully will invest wisely.

Me too. I hate it when a player who has been with us since he was a kid leaves. I'm sure there's much we're not being told about this. An on-form Rashford is a huge upgrade on Zikzee and Hojland but he hasn't shown his top form for a while now. Good luck to him at Villa.
