Rashford | Villa | Loan with option to buy

Rashy gets the number 9 at Villa.

Not sure if this is simply because Jhon vacated it or he will play as a 9

All we can hope for is he produces the goods at Villa so we get the fee in the Summer. He can revert back to being his normal lazy self post Summer.

He looks unwell. I do wonder if stuff will come out eventually about what’s been going on.
The thing with football, especially when you're in a position like Rashford in this modern age of social media, it's unending pressure and critique. He is in perhaps a worse situation with everything surrounding him because a lot of fans feel let down and feel like he doesn't deliver on what he's supposed to. I think mentally Rashford probably finds it really hard and maybe is self medicating with Alcohol which is a slippery slope which will eventually affect your personal and professional life (as we've seen play out!).

Sometimes clubs and players get themselves into situations they shouldn't be in and this is one such case. I really feel for Rashford but at the same time as a fan I'm disappointed in him and his actions, it's just such a weird thing because in life if you're bad at your job you get the criticism which can be bad enough, in his role because of the popularity of football, he gets it from all angles 24/7 and there must be a sprinkle of horseshit of lies and rumour in there too, imagine having that to deal with! I wouldn't be able to handle it personally, a lot of people probably couldn't handle it. It takes a lot of mental strength.

Listen to the likes of Beckham and Cantona, this was before the crazy age of social media we live in now. Now it is surely ramped up significantly. We've seen Rashford has previously come off social media so it is clear it is having an impact... probably a serious impact.

So when there was that big debate on how much we could sell him for, we are struggling to sell him for 40m.
It's almost like 18months of rancid form and horrific effort levels affected the price.

He's only been there 5 mins and he's already making himself sound ridiculous.
"I know when I'm playing at my best I can decide football games"
Surely he's in no position to make statements like that.

Looks like a "professional" who hasn't exercised in months.

Human mind is so interesting. Different people will be looking at the same images and see totally different things depending on what they want to see.

I don’t know how anyone can look at him and see someone who hasn’t exercised in months

I agree with a lot of that but here is a stupid question, do they have to be on social media? Especially if it’s having this kind of detrimental effect?

I don’t know how we got to a point where it is a given that one needs to be using these tools as if they are a necessity of life.

Of course he is. No one is seriously going to
disagree that, at his best, he can make the difference in big matches. The question is whether he still has that ability or not.

No, they don't have to do anything, but the thing is it's still there. Even if you are not on social media as a player, you'll know people will be spouting shite about you anyway, and that would also take a toll. It's an occupational hazard and you can't really avoid it to be honest, but it doesn't stop it from being hard and on a human level I sympathise with all the players. Even back in the day before social media, you still got pelters from the media, but at least it wasn't a constant unending stream like it is now.

It's not a lie. Just we hardly see his best anymore.

He has shown he can be this player, it was just a long time ago now and there's questions as to whether he can become that again. Hopefully he does.

Another plausible theory is that Marcus wanted out of a sinking ship. Understandable to some extent, but his horrendous performances helped sink the ship he was desperate to escape.

He looks fine physically, he just needs a new Smiling Coach because the current one is weird.

Not looking to make any excuses for him, I don't know what's been going on. He obviously had to move.
I like him though and seeing him at another EPL club is going to be hard.

Yeah I really didn't understand where Rooney was coming from on that, he seemed to explain it really badly and (as is so often the case on the Overlap) it wasn't really picked apart. It didn't help that Keano was interrupting every three seconds either.
What did he mean? He was training in the wrong place or?

That’s not an option, right? Because in that scenario Villa just exercise the 40m option. Then they hold onto a striker who is doing well for them, with a possibility of selling him on for serious money the next transfer window if his good form continues. There’s basically no chance we sell him to anyone other than Villa unless it’s for <£40m.

Villa exercising their 40mill option depends on Rashford actually wanting to sign for them, it's not like they can force him to sign just because they've pre-agreed a fee with us.

Though with everyone knowing that we have pre-agreed a fee in that region, it's unlikely that they'll start offering a lot more than that.

Human mind is interesting and would be no harm to study the mind of Rashford. As supporters we have got to see the best and worst of him. How and why he so good under Ten Hag in this first year as manager and since then has been mainly average to poor and strolling around the pitch day dreaming in a world of his own.

He's a Villa player now and it will be annoying and frustrating if he suddenly finds his 2022/23 form again.

Wow just seen his interview.

No where near as assured (contrived?) as his recent ones whilst with us. Seemed to stutter and lose focus. Distracted spring to mind

Unless he is having a change of image, as in growing hair to get braids or something, looked messy. Face looks bloated and puffy.

Weight of the world on his shoulders.

No this debate was earlier this season, Rashford fans for the most part are not in reality.
I suppose it's more the way we paid 40m for Zirkzee, whose top level doesn't seem much different from Rashy's bottom level.
I can't ever see Zirkzee having the season Rashy did 2 years ago.

Ok he looks much better there

Maybe he just takes really bad pictures

Could you see Rashford? What he did 3 years ago is irrelevant now.

No, buy options are tied to pre-contracts. Hypothetically, if Villa decide to ignore what he wants and trigger the buy option, there's nothing he can do about it. They don't need his agreement, it's just stupid to sign a player who doesn't want to play for you. That said, if there's a third club willing to sign him and go over the £40m fee, Villa can trigger the option and then sell him

Sorry if it came across wrong fella. I just thought it was a talking point that it was even as wrong/embarrassing by someone like the Roonster.

I suppose it is how you look at it. Personally if I hadn't heard the Rooney bit I would say it was wholesome and really good that our pro's spent that kind of time with the kids.

I could also be wrong and this but wasn't what Rooney was specifically referring to. However he made a lot about Marcus being alone practicing near kids and parents.

No worries mate, all good.

Guess you also have more and more hypotheses like strikers' ketchup bottles and whatnot
So if after finally scoring, after finally a good string of games, a good season, whatever, you still fall back, are not happy, etc... it's hard to turn off the self-deprecation inside the mind, or any kind of depression motor (clinically or not).

Stuff is ruff, especially if we can find comparable examples, but still not quite compare completely, or if you feel more connection to a bad example, the affirmations will work against you until you are hopefully convinced by something healthier, and consistently convinced as well, as much as possible... With, without any "self-medication" that's a slippery slope...

Always appreciated how that's shown in Bojack Horseman after he wins an Oscar. It is still speculation, but after yet another resurrection under ETH and then yet another downfall... I can imagine something just snapped completely. Especially if you're supposed to be the (or one of) saviors of Manchester United. And it gets worse... yet again.

Hope the new surroundings works wonders for him. He didn't always look disciplined, but he never looked maliciously so, either.

Rashford looks a bit shell shocked. Like it's all happening around him. He looks so out of it in some of those pics they're gonna be meme material for years. It's fecked but it'd make a good comedy. Looks like he was thrown into the back of a van with hood over his head!

Neville's words are actually on point. Go to Villa, buy into what they are doing, listen to Emery's direction and rebuild your career. You can bounce back from it if you stop the slide right now. This is your opportunity to turn things around but you gotta want it for yourself.... and here I can relate. Villas not even a bad club right now.

Have to admit I'm a bit heartbroken...there were obvious reasons why it all went down the Toilet with United and Rashford. But it shouldn't have ended like this.

Agreed. Particularly looking back at all the old montages of Rashford, the pictures of his childhood dreams etc. -- sadness is the overwhelming feeling for me right now. In another reality, he should have been the face of our club through a period of success.

Delighted to see the back of him finally, at least 2 years to late though as always with us.

Yep...I think everyone involved is to blame here.

Rashford for, for whatever reason, giving up at the end and stop trying or being professional enough. Unforgiveable as a local lad and on such huge wages.

The club for not managing him proberly, burning him out at a young age while making him the face of the club which didnt quite match his ability at all. And giving him this ridiculous contract, which we cant pay anymore now because of a decade of missmanagement.

And also the Fanbase imo. A lot will disagree with me here. But a lot of fans were constantly at his back after one or two bad performances from the very beginning because everyone expected him to become CR7 Level. After it became clear he will not be able to perform at such levels it turned toxic quite often. It clearly affected him in the longterm and I'm sure was a reason why he downed tools with us at the end.

Our club has been (and currently still is) an absolute mess and this Story is highlighting that. I wish him all the best, i hope he finds joy again for the beautiful game at Aston Villa and helps us free up money in the summer which we hopefully will invest wisely.

Me too. I hate it when a player who has been with us since he was a kid leaves. I'm sure there's much we're not being told about this. An on-form Rashford is a huge upgrade on Zikzee and Hojland but he hasn't shown his top form for a while now. Good luck to him at Villa.

Sancho goes on loan from United to Chelsea and is now doing better. If Antony and Rashford are going to be great, when they are out on loan, is this then an indication that the problem does not necessarily lie ONLY with the players?

From his interview you can tell that he has no intention of staying past the initial loan. He was keen to stress that he's only here for a short period of time in his first interview. This delusional fecker is going to come back here thinking that Barca or Milan will want him come summer. ffs.
