Rashford seems the best going against those top teams.

When teams leave space in behind Rashford is deadly- which is why he does so well in the big games! He needs to work on his subtle movement and getting into the positions to score more consistently against the fodder in the league

i'd say they're already better overall players than him but they're not at Lukaku's goal scoring level which is still an issue. Sure he was shite against the top six and a limited striker but this is a guy who averages a goal every two games and hit 20+ PL goals in four out of the last five seasons. I don't think either of Martial or Rashford are ready to hit those sort of numbers yet, but hopefully I'm totally wrong and at least one of them will break 20 this season.
How is that stat even possible when he didn't even achieve that with us and was with us for 2 seasons he was here.

I'd be very surprised if neither Martial or Rashford make it to 20 goals this season.

I'd much rather Rashford in the team than Lukaku. It's time he steps up and fulfills his full potential. He's 21 now so it's time that he becomes much more consistent. He should be hitting 25 goals a season. He is more than capable.

25 goals is quite an ask imo especially when his career best is only 13. If he can get between 18-20 then that'll be a remarkable improvement in itself

He can shoot and score from distance, but Martial would be best at the tap ins. Greenwood will eventually be the CF.

I'm confident he'll hit 22-25 goals. His career best might be 13 but the last time he was a certain starter was after his breakthrough under LvG. I think Mbappe would struggle to get his numbers alongside Lukaku.

Lukaku has scored more than 20 league goals once in his career. Maybe you mean 20+ goals in all competitions.

Yeah, his record is impressive.
  • Top teams tend to leave big spaces behind -> for Rashford to hit and exploit with his high speed burst.
  • Our common tactic vs Top teams (under both Mou and Ole) is usually counter-attack (not all games mind) -> this play to Rashford's best strength.
  • Rashford also tend to up his game/dial-up his efforts in big games, eg. high press, gamble on potential loose balls, etc.

:D Anyone got the updated stats?

He also performed in the other big games in CL/EL (not vs top 6).
It's his usual ineffectiveness vs the mid to small teams that tend to park the bus that is the big problem.

At 21 if this guy can start delivering 20+ goals a season, would be legend! Wish he can break Rooney's all time record, but really doubt it.
He currently has 47 goals, the record is 253. He'll need 207 goals to beat it, or 20-21 goals a season for the next 10 years!

Why is there so much emphasis on league goals? Goals in all competitions matter - for as long as Man Utd plays in various competitions. And a goal that makes us qualify for the next round of a cup or next Europa league stage is just as important

See that sounds impossible and yet he'll only be 31 in 10 years time so it 'could' happen. Especially if he turns some of those 20 goal a season years into 30 goal a season ones in a few years time

Now lacazette, he joined only in the 17-18 season, so it's understandable. But I thought Raheem would have way more than 7 goals against the top 6. He seems to be scoring for fun the past 2 seasons. Are we sure this guy is legit?

Stateman Dave knows his stuff

In reference to Sterling he's never scored against United or Liverpool in the league so only has Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea remaining of the top 6 so 7 goals against them aint a bad record

He started his 1st team career off here with a double against Arsenal (+ an assist) and a sweet solo goal against City! Them coupled with his double on his debut and his West Ham strike made those last few months of the 15/16 season quite exciting.

He got most of his goals after Christmas last year. Give him a full season as a starter, and add the Europa league in there, and he should get 20 goals easy.

Surprised Lukaku has five tbh, given all the media attention on his scoring record against top teams.
His final season at Everton was quite productive in terms of goals against the Top 6. 2 v City it 2 different games, 2 consolation goals away to Spurs and Arsenal and then there was 1 for us against Chelsea

Ah right. I had one in my head as a figure, so I guess that was the one versus Chelsea for us.

It's easy to forget that Rashford is still only 21 years of age..!
Now going into his 5th senior season, and already has loads of Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and International experience.

He has earned the right to be our main striker and I don't doubt that he will score 20+ across all competitions..

I agree with you, all goals are important.

If you look at the right-hand column of his wikipedia page, it shows 112 apps, 29 goals. Which are just his league stats.

His total goals/apps is 47/171.

Maybe people are going off this. Seems to be the standard for all players... at least on wikipedia.

Hattrick against us and then brace against Liverpool when he was at Everton.
He also scored against Chelsea for us though?

EDIT - The hatrick against us wouldn't count because Rashford had not made his debut yet.

Yeah, just pointing out few of his goals before Rashford's debut.
