Good to see an improvement in his general play but fact is he got a couple of clear chances and again his sharpness and finishing was poor, had we lost last night there would be a lot more focus on this and less on the effort he put in , yes we got a penalty by him been fouled in one of those chances but he really should have stuck that away and not have to rely on a penalty decision which could have went either way.

That was his best performance for us in a long time, worked really hard and got into better positions.

However he's just not clinical enough in front of goal, he really has to be taking those chances, especially around 4 or 5yds where he just seems to react slightly slower than the defenders.

Hopefully that can be improved on the training pitch but strikers instinct and speed of thought is what separates the average players from good & great ones
We can’t keep having this discussion. He’s low on confidence and thinks too much in those situations atm, but let’s not pretend he never had it - his finishing is the one aspect that haven’t been a concern until this season. He doesn’t lack the instinct to score goals, whatever else you may think of him.

It’s a weird thread, this one.

Really good performance, and it shows its not just about the goals but his own play. If he shows more initiative we wouldn't be on his back so much.

good game, but not at all surprising. slow and less physical teams in EL rarely trouble us as much as EPL teams. whoever our next opponent in EL is, you can always bet it will be an easier game for both him and Zirk compared to awaits them in league after that.

It was noticeable how much he was running channels and dragging defenders around, like he was doing every game when he first joined. He needs to go back to doing that in the league and the rest will come to him.

This is what I was talking the other day that nowadays it's the main issue with him, to PUT AN EFFORT, to do sthg. extra if goals doesn't come, till those come. It's enough? nope, but it's sthg that will help him to regain confidence and to try to gain the patience of his fans, coach and club. That's the path, the ony one right now that is in HIS HANDS...the system, the teamates, the haters, the supporters, the press, well he can't do anything about them.

He scored 21 games ago and no dam broke. Why would it be different whenever he next scores?

Just feels like delusion by those who refuse to accept he'll never be good enough.

You make a good point...that Rasmus has not scored in 21 games. But it doesn't logically follow that he will go another 10 or 21 games without scoring another goal. But he is a decent striker who actually started quite well for us. True, he may never score or another goal again or, he may become a reliable 15 goal scorer per season striker. We can't know which it will be, but what we've seen lately is that his overall game is improving, even if it true that he never be the next Ruud or Rooney, players who I suspect you and I agree were good enough for United.

By far his best game of the season. Unfortunately didn't get a goal, but pretty much all the other areas that have been criticised this season were much improved.

Maybe it was just because it was against players that he could physically dominate for once, but even if it was hopefully it'll get his confidence up in a way that helps him do it against PL defenders as well.

He's basically a young Weghorst for us. He can be useful as a facilitator but he'll never be a legitimate, consistent scoring threat in the EPL.

We need a ruthless, proven goalscorer in the summer. If we don't go all out for Osimhen we're insane.

Some genuinely shocking takes in this thread, as usual. Unless it's for a PSR profit there's no legitimate reason to sell Hojlund nor is there any conclusions to be drawn at this point in his career about whether he's 'good enough' to lead a top EPL team. He may very well prove to not be good enough. But there are hundreds of examples of top strikers who weren't up to much at the age of 22. Lewandowksi was about to move to Dortmund and score 8 goals, as one example. Gyökeres at the same age was barely scoring in the second tier in Germany or England. Zlatan was about to break out at AJAX but hadn't yet. Ruud was about to break out at PSV. RVP had scored 6 goals in Holland and came to England and scored10 in all comps. Osimhen moved to Italy and scored 10 in all comps in his first season. Way too early for conclusions on Hojlund especially as this has been essentially a lost season.

Hojlund showed a lot of signs of starting to understand what Amorim wants from him in last night's match. Those runs into the channels were vintage Amorim style from his time at Sporting. Hojlund showed flashes so far in his career of being a very good finisher. The tools are all there. He may never put them all together but I frimly believe he needs more time working with Amorim before we make a decision about whether to jettison him. Especially for a PSR loss.

Whilst I am not Hojlund's biggest fan and been super critical of him this season, I have been thinking, would United actually sell him at the end of the season?

We have invested heavily into him, not just the fee. Giving him regular first team minutes, investing heavily in his development.

It would be quite interesting to see what Amorim thinks, his input will be quite crucial in what happens to Hojlund.

I cant help but think, if we do what everyone wants, sell him for cheap, he will improve and become a good player.

The logical thing is he just becomes what he should have been anyway, the No2 young striker behind someone in their pomp.

I had no hope in our team a few weeks ago whem he couldnt create goal scoring chances. Since the we create more even if we dont score as much i see that as a huge improvement. Same for Hojlund, its concerning for me when a striker isnt anywhere near the chances. He has has been getting the chances and i can see a world where he starts scoring.

Last night was promising because it is one of the first games he actually looked like an all round footballer. Yes he scored goals last season but his all round play was still well below bar, it was no surprise he had little impact on games outside of goals because he basically showed nothing else.

The only way he has a long career at a top level if his all round games improves. He was making things happen instead of being passive, showed moments in all facets of attacking play.

That is far more encouraging than getting on the end of a tap in but doing nothing else. Up to him to bring that to the PL.

Delighted for him. Still a donkey but hopefully a donkey that can score a few more.

Well done, been a lot brighter over the last 3 games, an actual contributing part of the team rather than a spectator. I think they are looking for him in the channels more and he has got a bit of confidence from it. Need to see how he goes when the standard goes up, but if he was going to turn it around he had to start somewhere.

Credit where it's due, he took his goal brilliantly. He even did OK at holding the ball up and bringing others into play.

He needs to replicate this against teams that aren't relegation fodder to have any future here, but a couple of good games recently for him is progress.

Whisper it, however, slowly but surely there are some signs that his confidence is returning. His all around play has been much better recently and that finish tonight was quality. Especially off his weaker foot. Hojlund having a strong run in could be key to our Europa League hopes.

Great finish, that. Playing with a bit more fire about him generally again lately.

Good to see him at least start to turn it around after his head dropping so much.

Felt really happy for him to finally get a goal. Last season he went on a run after getting his first league goal. Hopefully the same happens again.

So glad he got his goal to relieve some pressure.

Not blaming him or saying it was his fault, but I still wish he didn’t lose the ball that ultimately led to Heaven’s injury.

A solid performance tonight. Took his goal brilliantly but just as importantly, his all round play was far better. Brought team-mates into play with the majority of his touches.

Was it 7 in a row he scored in last season?

Not out the of question he could put a run together now he doesn't have the goalless streak hanging over him.

Long shot but if he has a strong end to the season could drum up some interest for the summer transfer window.

He’s a terrible footballer who has a fantastic shot on him. Seems like a good lad and I’m pleased for him that he scored, but we need to ship him out this summer. He’s never going to be at the level we need.

Encouraging, maybe we can recover more money for him then we think. Conte might get something out of him? 40 mil would be a decent money to reinvest in another striker..

Besides the goal he had a couple of nice plays coming deep and laying it off for our midfielders to get forward. He’s been better the last few games tbh

He looks more motivated and confident after that goal, obviously. It is a good timing for us as well since we need everyone on their best form for the last few games.
