Needs a loan next season, Hojlund has been a major candidate of the poor attack that has translated from the tenure under Erik. As stated he's never shown the quality in his career to be a long term starter, seasonal high of 9 goals in Serie A and even last season he scored the majority of his chances in one calender month. That's a purple patch player and Rashford who was far more prolific by numbers was criticised for this very same attribute in his play.

The economics of his move won't warrant a squad role so if any team offers a decent fee in the next 24 months I can see the club accepting the bid. He's also the wrong profile, Gyokores is genuinely good with his feet and can create a chance for himself as well as link the attack effectively. I think Amorim demands more of the striker than just goals but overall contribution in the phase of play.

I think he is lacking in confidence like Zirkzee was.

Once his confidence picks up their is a good player there for sure.

Not sure If Elite level but he is much better as he showed last season even.

The bolded was also his seasonal low in Serie A considering he only played there for 1 year and he was a 19 year old backup. Not to say he does not have flaws but this is not the stick to beat him with that so many of his detractors think it is. In terms of his seasonal high across all leagues, that is 10 in the PL last year or 16 if you count all competitions, not bad considering that was his age 20/21 season and we were playing some pretty dire stuff for much of it.

This season has been a bit of a horror show I admit. I don't think getting hurt in our first pre season game was helpful at all nor would switching coaches and tactics a couple of months into the season improved matters in the short term. We have been poor as an attacking side and although he has to shoulder some of the blame for that it is undeniable that we have been right at the bottom of the league in chance creation which is unsurprising when we have defensive fullbacks playing the WB role and often on their non favored side.

The team is starting to click in recent weeks and Rasmus looks to be finding his way again so I disagree that he cannot be a squad player. The fee is what it is and at the end of the day he is a young player on one of the lower wages in the squad. We have to find a senior striker to lead the line next season but we are still going to need someone in that support role and in a much improved side I think that can be Rasmus. We simply cannot sell him for less that 45M-50M this summer without taking a big PSR hit and if he shows improvement next term in that support role then I don't see why we would want to move him on. If we have Gyokeres for arguments sake and Chido Obi continues to break through we still need 3 players for the position, as we know from painful experience that 1 or other is likely to be injured a lot of the time. Should also be clear that I like Zirkzee but he definitely is a better fit for the 10 role in this system so I am not counting him as a striker moving forward.

How many times has he been in the position he was yesterday to score that goal? It's a weird one because he's not a striker that usually misses any genuine chances he gets, but he's rarely in them.

Happy for him yesterday to get his goal and a good assist in the previous game as well. Feel as a rotational player he would be good for a couple years until he hits his mid 20s and can make the step up

Last few games have been a big improvement from him which is nice to see.

Chemistry between players is improving all-around so no wonder he is getting more chances. I think I have seen him miss 1 good chance in each of the last 4-5 games I have seen him play. But I have taken that as a positive rather than a negative because as you rightly point out, getting opportunities is much more of an issue for him vs putting them away.

Hope that goal does his confidence a world of good, hope he has a good break with the National team too. The goal is exactly how he should be playing, coming deep and then making a run into space, that's what he has over other CBs, no chance he can physically fight with them.

Really well taken finish, that too on his wrong foot!

last two games think we’ve seen the team starting to play how it’s supposed to, Wingbacks doing the correct job, giving space for the 10’s. The 10’s doing their job creating space for Rasmus and in general him not being as isolated.

He’s not having to try and hold off a defender and bring a ball down under control and hold it till support arrives. He’s just knocking it back in to an area where a team mate should be and then turning the defence.

Still think at times he needs to not be so eager to get in but I imagine that is partly under instruction by Ruben to create space for midfielders/10’s. Just sometimes hang back and realise not every run in the box needs to be to the front post.

Certainly needs a bit of confidence because where last season he was just hitting things he seems to now be looking for the perfect option and waiting instead of just reacting instinctively, which in turn is causing him to fluff his lines.

That finish however was not the finish of someone lacking in confidence. Shame there are internationals now. Would have been better I think to just roll straight in to the next game for United.

Does it mean the purple patch is developing? If so, hope we can have a positive ending of the season.

No, that means he is getting his confidence back which he lacked.
Yeah, starting 2-3 games ago he was showing more confidence and intensity in his play again, maybe keeping things simpler and focussing more on getting into better positions. The goals are naturally following.

Could have had another earlier too - ragdolled Inacio out of the way to create a decent chance for himself.

Højlund said afterwards that it was a tribute to his great idol, Ronaldo, whom he looked up to when he grew up as a United fan.

Oh love that celebration! I'm marking that down as a goal too. Ronnie will be spitting feathers.

It's well known Ronaldo is Hojlund' idol (and I think Rasmus even mentioned that's one of the reasons why he started supporting United), so he's done the celebration in honour/tribute to Ronaldo.

Rasmus Højlund post match interview .

Højlund: "Its a great day for us and for me. I'm playing against the worlds best player tonight... He is my idol"
Interviewer: You did a celebration that reminded us of something
Højlund: "Yeah that was a tribute.. what can I say look he is my idol.. I saw him play as a kid in 2009 against Denmark, yeah thats my idol, worlds best player"

So happy for him that he didn't miss that tap in. I'd have been typing furiously had he missed.

Saw this comment. Expected a scuffed finish. Watched video. It was not a scuffed finish.
Thought I was going mad as I couldn't see it either, glad it's not just me. Sends the keeper off with his body shape and everything, it's a really confident finish.

Such a streaky goalscorer which would suggest confidence plays such a massive part in his game. Young player having such responsibility at a huge club means that can erode quite quickly. Someone raised a good point on here that it's almost a shame for him that Bruno is so good at penalties as many other strikers have that up their sleeve to stop goal droughts getting out of hand and topping up the self esteem in the process.
