Just goes to show, that if you give him service (meaning an open goal from a yard out) he is going to score.

Really bad performance, but got on the scoresheet. The reverse of last time vs. Bilbao.
 
I mean he's secretly only one goal back from the golden boot as it stands :lol:

He's had a pretty good European campaign all things considered.
 
Rasmus had another horror game despite scoring (all thanks to Amad). He was horrific and absolutely useless throughout the whole game. He needs to be sold this summer or loaned to a Championship side. I don't think that he's even good to be a backup striker.
 
A lot of shite, some good and a goal after Amad comes on the pitch. If he's on the pitch, you need to feed him/the striker. Doesn't matter what you think of his quality. Garnacho and Dorgu need to play him in.
 
Didn't score in 1st leg, but was quite good. Scored tonight, but was quite poor. He's our only striker so not that there's a alternative in that position.

A false nine type solution needs to be considered for the final. We know he struggles against PL level defenders, and we can’t really afford to have the kind of performance against Spurs.
 
He's so easy to smother when he has the ball, which bodes badly for the final given how good Spurs are at smothering.

I honestly thought he was going to block it with his standing foot! But I’m glad he got a goal, his workrate deserves it for me.

Guess Mainoo as a false 9 is an option. He's good in the box and managed a great finish to make it 4-4 vs Lyon.

I’m not a big fan of it, but might be the best option. When playing an actual striker he usually at least occupies the right space, and I could see a false nine clogging up the central areas.
I imagine Højlund starts the final, but I’m not sure it’s the right call. There really is no ideal solution.

He may leave, but to say there is zero chance he’s here next season is clearly false.

Zirkzee is more of a no 10 in any case. As we have seen in these European games, one injury means we have no options coming from the bench.

If we get CL, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him still at the club even if we bought another striker. If we don’t get Europe, then less reason for depth.

We definitely do need to sign a better CF this summer though.
 
His ablity is shit. But also his attitude. Never jumps for a ball, never wins back a ball, never brings someone into play.

He was poor tonight. Amad basically hitting the ball against his foot like he’s playing snooker won’t change that. Looks like it meant a lot to him, and the more confidence he gets the better.

We absolutely need to replace him though.
 
He's just not a very good footballer. His technique is very poor, he never looks like he has the ball under control.

In the first half 3 v 2, he peels to the right and Dorgu plays him in. He needs to control and shoot with his right. It's the only way he's getting a shot away in that situation. Instead tries to control it (badly) with his left, back into where the Bilbao defenders are, and loses possession. Just awful technique and thought process.

I'll give him some credit as in the last few games he's at least been getting his arse into the 6 yard box and it's earned him a couple of goals and a penalty. But his all round game is still so poor.

Yeah that chance in the first half.
Isak gets a shot on target from that for sure and probably scores.
Hoijlund looks clumsy in the same situation

Selling him now would be a massive PSR loss. Unless we get offered 40 million+ (highly unlikely) he's not going anywhere.

We're not learning anything new at this point. We know he's not good enough so any positives I'll take.

Happy for him to get a goal and it would be momentous if he scored in the final and we win.
 
How can someone who plays football daily not improve? He has been playing as a professional for that many years, why he is shit? Hoijund was bought for his size and pace, he doesn't have necessary skill and finishing. I don't know which idiot sanction such buy. Hoijund needs to be sold to the highest bidder as he is clearly not improving.

This is what I've been saying about good strikers not always needing clear chances on a plate to score.

Our standards are so low that we forget good players can buy themselves half a yard and get a shot away from all sorts of scenarios.

This is the way I'm looking at it.

He's had a terrible season and I've completely given up on him. Ideally we can get rid in the summer.

But until then he's here and so it benefits everyone for him to score goals. He has 2 in 3 now, maybe some slight momentum going into the final?

It wasn't great from him but I'm pretty sure he laid it off for Bruno to take a shot from the edge of the box, which all things considered wasn't that bad of an end result. Hojlund trying to create space and shoot with his weaker foot wouldn't have been a good choice for him or for many strikers imo as it's a low probability chance from the edge of the box. I could be remembering wrong but it was one of those 'argh he did bad there but it ended somewhat with a progressive action'.

Are you serious? Thought he was horrific tonight. Couldn't trap the ball, is always static or flatfooted receiving the ball so can't pass with conviction and at one point Amad was literally screaming at him mid-surge to make a run for him and he stayed in the area Amad was running into. I could handle that if I saw him helping the team a bit more but he constantly pulls out of 40/60 challenges when pressing whereas you constantly see Amad nick balls in the same position.
 
His last couple of goals have been properly scabby. He needed those because there's still very little else clicking for him at the moment. I find it very difficult to imagine him staying at United next season
 
Thought all good attacking phases in the first half started by him dropping deep, holding on to the ball turning and passing. He is clearly improving with the back to the goal. Worked his ass off.
 
I mean it's true that Amad gets in positions nobody else in a red shirt does. I think Hojlund's chances of scoring dramatically increase with Amad on the field. But then I guess our chances of scoring in general do.

We will move on from him once the season is done. The coaches arent blind, theres been no improvement and he is detrimental to the team.
