Hojlund, Mount and Onana really was the summer of nightmares. We’ve had awful windows but this stands alone as the worst use of money I can recall.

Hojlund has to be loaned out to rebuild his value so we can bin him off the following season.

I’ve never lacked hope in a United striker as much as Hojlund. I’m amazed when he gets a chance, let alone a shot on target or miraculously a goal.

No I’m not, but I don’t think we have played to his strengths, and I don’t think that you can explain the teams crisis with his deficiencies alone - it’s ridiculous
What are his strengths?

This thread before games reminds me of when Weghorst was here. You'd always see a dozen posts saying things like "got a weird feeling he's going to finally bang some in today", and then unsurprisingly he'd have a complete stinker and it would be as if we were playing with ten men.

What are his strengths?
If he get's to run channels and have the ball played in front of him he does ok. The rest of his game is sub-par. He really is a one-trick pony and the majority of teams won't play a high line against us.

I believe in him longer term as awful as he’s been. He was a bit better against spurs, unlucky not to score and was a handful running the channels.
Nah. Not at this level. Your center forward is supposed to be somebody who can do something out of nothing. We praise his performance when he manages to control a pass a few times. That's how low expectations are for him. He's genuinely the worst player I've ever seen at this club, and there's absolutely 0 chance he comes back from this season here.

Man Utd 2:0 Aston Villa New
Well done Rasmus! Been better again since Chelsea. When we release the ball to him quickly he does better. He's no good standing there waiting for chances while we recycle balls in the channels only to cut back and go side to side. Very little ball across the box or through balls to feed off. We clearly aren't playing to any strikers strengths this season

Thought he was ok today, outside of the miscontrol.

His first touch means that even the best version of him isn't good enough.

Has he ever scored a header? I don't remember any of his goals for us coming via his head, nor do I remember seeing a headed goal in the compilations I watched from his time with Atalanta.

The lad is 6'3" and built, yet even when the flight of a cross seems to heavily favour him he's always beaten to it.

He's scored one header, vs Galatasaray, in his 2 years here.

Heading was a weakness of his always which is a pity.

His first touch is a confidence and experience issue. Look at Obi or Zirkzee who many prefer. No goals. It's the system behind the forwards that's broken. Slow build up. Lack of risky passing lack of quality outside of Bruno

Please tell me that’s it now. I feel like any more games he plays, the more Jozy Altidore and Ade Akinbiyi will start feeling better about not being the worst striker to grace the Premier League.

It was a weakness of Haaland as well. It can be improved upon.

If he was an academy player, I (perhaps most) would show more patience and maybe hope for a good loan etc.

But we spent tons of money and in 2 years he has proved that he is worth 1/5 of the amount.

If I was Martinez I would have let him go 1 vs 1, because I would be sure he wouldn't be able to score.

I’m not really sure who I’d get rid of 1st Rasmus or Onana , obviously Onana’s mistakes are more high profile but this guy is a non entity up front

He played well by his standards today, still nowhere near enough but at least he affected the game.

Mentioned it in the match thread but the standard of strikers is abysmal worldwide. Look at Watkins today, such a one dimensional player, constantly losing the ball under basic pressure, little technique in general play, has decent movement around the box and strike the ball cleanly. That is pretty much it and it has made him one of the better strikers in the league.

I think the game has become a lot more system based and thus defensive. Look at the goals against us. It's almost always an error under pressure instead of a jesus that was a quality goal. Even the smallest teams have rigid systems and players who can hurt you if they are given a sight of goal or if you make a mistake. We are too meek on the ball and we still aren't dirty strong or hard working enough off it

I feel for Rasmus but I think he's got a lot of improvement in him. I wouldn't be against loaning him out next season but what we should do is sign someone who is 26/27 and let them scrap it out for the next season or two

A loan only makes sense as a precursor to a sale in the hope he regains some value by scoring in France or equivalent. He has no future at United and is the worst regular first choice striker I have ever seen at the club. Gary Birtles, Alan Brazil, Terry Gibson, Peter Davenport, Wout Weghorst can all relax now

It’s a toss up really. A choice between starting most games one player down or one goal down

I can see him staying if we sign someone like Gyokeres, just as backup, because we're hardly likely signing two strikers. However if its someone like Delap then I can see him going, whether it be sale or loan I dont know

Fortunately that was his last game and we can now bin this guy off.

I hope he can regain his career trajectory abroad and do well. Nice lad who desperately wants it to work, it's never been his fault that he just wasn't upto the task he was given.

No, as I and others have repeated again and again that’s his most obvious weakness

A Dolphin in a bath tub. Looks so out of place. We were always reliant on our strikers. Go back to italy and save your career.

Clearly a model professional and a good guy because Amorim keeps playing him, but for us he's just total junk. He needs to go back to Italy where he could easily be decent again.

If by any miracle we can get both Delap and Gyokeres, we won't for a second hesitate to sell him if we get a PSR break even offer

So a debut season with 10 Prem goals and 6 in Europe while showing promise is worse than Weghorst now? It’s obvious his horrible form this season has a lot to do with the team in general - otherwise he wouldn’t have done so much better in his first season.

Cause and effect. Having your main striker getting 4 goals in 32 PL games does have a lot to do with why United finished 15th. Last season he had a six week purple patch around the new year which accounted for most of his goals. Is he objectively worse than Weghorst? Maybe not to be fair but a EUR70m signing is going to be judged differently from a 5 month emergency loanee.

so painful to see that if we had at least bottom league table striker who can do the basics right and convert some of these chance, we would be easily in tophalf. He singlehandedly cost us any chance in Europa too. Zero presence, shit touch when included, no runs in the box, no hold up play. Just incredible Manchester United have a player like him up top.

Even if it's just Gyokeres we get, we should absolutely get another striker on loan, because Hojlund stinks so much. Should be sent on loan to regain value back to Italy.

The poor touch was indicative of what he is as a footballer, just bad.

He had ages to see Mainoo won the ball and to anticipate the pass, the pass was fine, the defender wasn't harassing him. It should've been a simple touch, swivel, hit and he couldn't manage it.
