If we get more players into the opposition box, we have an overall higher chance of scoring.

Many times when Rasmus was running into the box, he would be isolated with 2-3 defenders on him. Not to say, he didn't make mistakes. But to not acknowledge the overall lack of threat, chance creation and attacking fluidity is incorrect in my view. Sure, some other types of strikers may have done better in those circumstances, but clearly last season, we were not giving Rasmus the best chance to succeed.

Mostly because he makes the most braindead runs ever seen

I’ve never seen a centre forward with such terrible positional awareness. Guaranteed to always be miles behind the play, wrestling with a defender for no reason known to man; or miles ahead of play, wrestling with a defender for no reason known to man.

Just watched an admittedly brief few seconds of the official account's training videos: Rasmus isn't there is he? Shouldn't all the squad be back?

There was internationals 2nd week of June, presume players who played those aren't back until next week at least

Oh okay, thanks all. The Cunha video featured Zirkzee scoring a bunch, so was curious where Hojlund was hiding

Yep. Even Zirkzee, who we all bemoan for not having good movement in the box and not having a strikers instinct, was taking about double the amount of shots per game (and from closer to the goal) than Hojlund when he was playing at striker. When even Zirkzee is getting into those positions, finding space and getting on the end of passes and crosses, it shows that the blame can't just be placed on the players who are delivering the ball in. That's not to say that they are blameless, but Hojlund's poor movement was a very big factor.

Hojlund is a marvellous player in Europe. Hope he can transfer the good form to the premier league as well.

He was also a good player in the PL for 8-10 games when he went on the goal scoring spree. Feels like a player who thrives when confident and falls apart when not.

I've given up on him but deep down, and despite everything, I am probably still hoping for him to get better and start performing

I blow hot and cold with Rasmus.

At times I think he's crap-he will never improve for us and we should cut our losses.

Other times I think that he's been playing in a dysfunctional team where most of our players looks crap. The #9 position and the #1 position (GK) are the two most unforgiving positions in the team. Any mistakes are amplified compared to other parts of the pitch.

I've seen nearly every match last season and Hojlund was crap but the service to him was crap too.

Players play on natural instinct. When you're not achieving what you know you can achieve then you start to consider your performances more, your movements more. You stop relying on instinct and start over thinking.

We try to use Hojlund as a point-man but that never appeared to be his game even when at Atalanta. There he tended to be given the ball to run onto or he'd cut inside from the wing (similar to Rashford).

I think our biggest problem is playing the ball out efficiently from the back.....This was the main reason we ended up hoofing the ball to Hojlund only ever giving him 50/50 balls to control. We have failed to master the art of passing the ball out from the back. Our GK or back three, pass the ball to the wingbacks, they get pressed quickly, we panic, the ball goes back to the back three (or Onana), we pass the ball around the back five for an eternity until we just hoof a ball in hope to Hojlund.

Think it will be interesting to see what he looks like at Leeds at the weekend. He's been training for at least a week with Cunha and without Garnacho around. It's going to be pretty clear within a couple of preseason games whether he has the ability to turn it around. If he can look anything like the player we had in the first season, he has a hope.

Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund has become the youngest-ever player to score in six successive Premier League games, following his opening goal against Luton Town.
His run in front of goal started with a fine strike against Aston Villa back on Boxing Day, as Erik ten Hag's men came from 2-0 down to overcome the Villans 3-2.

ESPN Lebron James stats, if you know you know , such " records" don't mean anything

Don't do it to yourself man, maybe because the season has been over for a while you've forgotten how appalling he's been.

Could be another depressing season, seeing him as main striker.

Maybe, just maybe(not holding my breath here, but trying to be somewhat positive, if we can't get in a proper striker), Højlund will start scoring goals again with Mbuemo, Cunha, Amad and Bruno creating chances for him. Even Dorgu loves a cross or two.

Definitely there's always a chance. And it's not just about scoring goals, but every aspect of being a good footballer that I'm worried about.

It's just crazy to put our hope on him for another season. Him and Zirkzee, tbf.

Oh I know and agree... he looked more like a footballer his first season. But anyways, I'd take Mateta, Jackson, Watkins or even Vlahovic as our striker ahead of those two, personally.

Imagine how great it would be if he has a fantastically shocking season of scoring 20 PL goals out of nowhere. Just channels his deep, inner, closeted strikers instinct and just becomes good.

I wish it to be true as he’s likable. But fecking hell when he’s bad, he’s absolute tripe.

Not a chance. If he’s still starting for us, the reality is that Cunha and Mbeumo’s stats will take a big hit and people will be wondering why they can’t reproduce their previous form. It’s absolutely essential that he is no more than a bit part reserve (obviously I want him out on loan but we don’t seem to have any intention to do that).

He betrayed our confidence to an irreparable level last season. He can’t play for us again. The level he turned out was completely unacceptable, and we simply cannot trust him again.

I remember that finish he did in the EL in December. That was top class. Has it in him.

When he shows he can control a football there might be hope for him. His goal tally doesn't matter with a first touch that bad.

We need to stop singling out rare moments to try and prove anything.

There are guys in the lower leagues who score once in a lifetime worldies. Every professional is capable of striking a football well and scoring a great goal once in a blue moon.
