Rasmus Hojlund - Linked to Inter on loan

Player wants to stay….feck him!
Player wants to leave….feck him!
Just goes to show why the players who run their contracts down and leave on frees are actually justified. If they were having a shocker, but wanted to stay and prove themselves the club and fans would have zero patience and tell them to feck off.

What if he wants to stay and prove himself every season? Renew his contract?

He might not have much choice but Athletic saying Hojlund wants to stay and prove himself. It's not a surprising outcome given that he's a boyhood fan of the club

He lives in delulu land if he believes that he can stay if he wants after his abysmal last season.

He said it himself. He has a contract until 2030, so he can of course stay and prove himself until the end of the contract, if he doesn't mind he won't play very often.

Maguire did exactly the same.

Shame he doesn't know how long he's employed for. Still a kick in the gut to be tied to him for 3 more years, but if he wants to stay until 2030 he can do voluntary work in the canteen for a further 2 years.

Rasmus Højlund has joined Manchester United on a contract running until June 2028, with the option of a further year, subject to international clearance.

I think this will come down to Ruben. He has been very supportive of Rasmus and the relationship seems pretty good between them so if he communicates to him that he believes he can turn things around he is going to want to stay. If Ruben sits him down and says he does not see it working out then I am pretty sure Rasmus would go, he does not give the impression of being a bad character and it is not as though he is on a particularly high wage.

Yep, this is what I dont get with players. They want to stay.. but as United should do, they will probably bring in another ST.

6 months down the line.. we will hear that Rasmus is not happy with playing time and looking to leave.

There is one player that can never say he has never got the opportunity and that is Rasmus.

He has been given 2 full seasons to flop.

Normally if the player has an attractive offer else where he will change his mind. It is always just about money and playing time in the end.

He has a contract with United so he very straightforwardly can stay if he wants.
The club puts him to train with youth team. its also very straightforward. We have tolerated under performing players for too long. Interesting how people here love to hate Garnacho but happy for a serial underperformer to see out his contract.

I am pretty sure you can't force a player to move its not the NBA (even not certain it could happen there) or pre Bossman era football. So it kinda is, up to him.
You can give him a push though. He wants to prove himself and believes that he can. But if manager tells him; "You are not in my plans and you will be 4th option if you stay" then he will (probably) leave

In real life this never happens.

Could also be seen as discriminatory and/or bullying.
There's a subsection of our anti-supporters (who watch United but personally detest our players if they don't win) who don't seem to understand why it might not be a good idea for the club to persecute our own players.

Except he will be second not 4th option.

After this season? No way. Zirkzee will be second. And Chido will get minutes in cups.

Nevertheless; i seriously doubt that managers don't speak with players before season about their role/status. If Amorim tells him that he will fight with Zirkzee for being second option then he will stay. But if Amorim says to him that Zirkzee and Chido are in front of him then he will leave.
Why Maguire turned down West Ham? Because Erik said to him that he will get minutes.

I said many times; our managers must become ruthless towards players if they want new signings. Every our new manager wanted new signings but at the same time they wanted "old" players to stay "just in case".
I hope Ineos will be ruthless in these things.

TenHag interested? If so, he really is on a mission to correct his mistakes
Isn't Hojlund also part of Ten Hag's agency? If I recall correctly, he switched to that agency just before signing for us, which looking back on it now, is quite weird.

This is one of the problems that naturally results from giving managers a large amount of power over squad building decisions: they tend to be hoarders, as they have every incentive to be. It happened with Ole, it happened with ETH, and it appears to be happening with Amorim.

We don’t have European football next season, and Amorim is not in position to look down on domestic cup competitions. It’s best for Obi to get a loan to play senior football more regularly.

Zirkzee is a completely different profile of attacker to be a back up for Amorim first choice. There is a reason that despite Hojlund disastrous time, Zirkzee wouldn’t take his place. Also from what I learned Zirkzee kept having harmstring injuries. Previously with Bologna and during the game with Newcastle. As we know harmstring injury recurrent is high. He didn’t play much and had this issue. Zirkzee as third choice for assurance is safer. In ideal world, we let Hojlund out on loan and get a proper second shoice.

I find it quite refreshing to see that a player backs himself and wants to fight to stay cause he wantss to bring success to the club and not because he is on high wages.

Kudos to Højlund.

Would agree if we didn't need to raise money, however there is also part of me stupidly intrigued to see IF he could flourish when backup to experienced striker

I have never questioned his desire or fight, but his ability is not good enough and not improving.

Apologies in advance!

I agree, i just appreciate his attitude.

I agree on those points. I am just tired of players with bad attitude like Sancho etc so appreciate Højlunds attitude more because of that.

The bolded is why he may end up staying. We do have to sign a proven striker this summer to be our first choice but we will probably be keeping either Hojlund or Zirkzee as backup. I think the majority lean towards keeping Zirkzee although the stats tell us that both were as bad as each other and I really don't think Amorim has given anything away in terms of his preference. The financial situation might end up being the deciding factor and with Zirkzee having been the much cheaper purchase it may prove easier to raise a quick profit selling him.

Would genuinely take £20m for him. Dogshit.

Considering we still owe around 40M on him that makes sense. Sell Rasmus for 20M and then sell Mainoo to fix the PSR black hole we just created for ourselves by selling Rasmus. Genius.
Correction: we should pay £20m to get rid of him.

Had 2 seasons to prove himself and nothing to show for it. Time to move him on.

Nerve on this guy giving it the SIUUU in front of Ronaldo a few months back.

If it is Gyokeres, Zirkzee and Hojlund that's alright. Takes pressure off Obi and he can go out on loan to gain experience.

Hojlund could learn a lot from Gyokeres
