Look at it from his point of view right now, why would he leave? As it stands he's still starting, he's the starting striker for one of the biggest clubs in the world. The chase of a top striker is looking increasingly difficult with Gyökeres committing to Arsenal and the Sesko/Osimhen/Ekitike deals being very complicated financially, the other options like Ollie Watkins or DCL shouldnt scare him (even though they're clearly better).
He probably realizes he's starting by default and by lack of a better option but he's probably willing to prove he can do it.

If he’s not scared of Oli Watkins he should be. I mean good luck to him thinking he’ll be getting minutes over him or Zirkzee.

The only possibility for sale is in case United decide to advance in talks and proceed with his exit.

Incredible insight

If he is the starting CF going into the season…

Including his debut Zirkzee scored in a grand total of 2 league games last season with his final goal coming on December 1st 2024. I am fairly confident most of the posters on this board could start at CF over him.

Something that annoys me is how his record with Belgium always gets brought up. He’s had no rivals and been in a pretty top team, with top supply (Hazard AND de Bruyne) for a decade, so of course he’s absolutely filled his boots against the Andorras and Macedonias. Any half decent striker would’ve done; Robbie Keane got nearly 70 international goals.

As I’ve always said, he’s just Darren Bent if he spent too long in the gym. Like you say, Everton standard.
You can literally say that about every international goalscorer, same goes for Harry Kane, Same goes for Mbappe...

You can't discredit him for having a " top supply" ,if that's the case giving credit to any striker within top clubs is pretty pointless. He played 166 games for everton and scored 87 without the " top supply" you speak of ..

Plus he has the 11th best scoring Ratio in premier league history.(100 or more goals )

But Zirkzee looks good scoring those 2 league goals so he's leagues above Hojlund according to most.

I'd be willing to give him a chance based on the first season he had here, that he should have kicked on from but it really would be last chance saloon. That, and we really need someone else upfront even if it is someone like Ollie Watkins, we cannot go into the season with just Hojlund.

They never make it easy for the club to sell do they

Push him out. Tell him it's in his best interest to leave if he wants to play in the World Cup next summer.

I suspect, as usual, the club will just go "well he prefers to stay so that'll be the end of it".

Fingers crossed Hojlund and Zirkzee will come good. Last season we barely created anything for the STs.
The striker plays a huge part in chances getting created. Both in creating chances for themselves, and in getting into the right positions at the right time to get on the end of passes/crosses. Zirkzee is poor at it and Hojlund last season was even worse. The rest of our attack (bar Amad) was malfunctioning, but the striker was the single biggest reason.

When you have arguably the most creative player in world football playing behind you, questions have to be asked when the striker never gets on the end of it. Especially when it's (in Hojlund's case) basically the one thing that he is supposed to be bringing to the table. Zirkzee at least does provide some other aspects and can play his part in creating chances for others, although hopefully he'll improve his actual goal threat this coming season.

Plenty of posters arguing between him and zirkzee, neither are good enough, 2 dreadful strikers by premier league standards. The concern is who we sign, its slim pickings at the moment and most people's suggestions just aren't realistic. I wouldn't mind Watkins for 35m or less but I see villa wanting more and anymore just wouldn't be wise with our financial constraints. Likes of Osimhen, Ekitike, Sesko just aren't happening. I just pray we dont go for dcl as a free stop gap, no matter how bad our business normally is I still dont think they're that stupid

Indeed. And here I was thinking his sale would be possible without proceeding with his exit, silly me.

Again this? We can be prime Barcelona and Hojlund still would struggle to have a shot.
Guy is our Ali Dia. We were scammed. Fair play to Atalanta and his agent, they scammed us and now it is time for us to try to scam someone else.

That didn't happen in a vacuum though. Our other players became less willing to pass to the strikers in the final third when it became clear they weren't going to do anything useful with the ball.

Why doesn't Amorim publicly tell him, "You better PRAY that you can FIND A CLUB to sign you.”
I guess in part it is because unlike Garnacho he is not an academy lad and so we cannot afford to just sell for a bargain price, we actually need to think about recouping as much of the initial transfer fee as possible and that is not looking easy to do. Amorim is likely aware that a new striker is not a certainty in this window.

It is also hard to know exactly what Amorim thinks of him, he defended him a lot last season in the press, deflecting a lot of blame for his struggles onto himself and the team as a whole. I have seen some articles that suggest Amorim wants rid but then I have seen others that say he thinks he can come good and sees him as very much in the same mold as Gyokeres in his early career before he broke through and he believes he can get him there.

I couldn’t care for both or the stats or who looks more or less aesthetically pleasing compared to who is more efficient. All I know is Rasmus is worst and he’s not starting above those two.

If we don't add a new striker I would happily bet that Amorim will start Hojlund over Zirkzee more often than not.

Towards the end of the season didn’t seem like it

For the #9, Hojlund is a better fit.

If he starts Zirkzee, he will have one of the #10 starting ahead of him.

My view is that we should sell Zirkzee. There is probably a buyer out there and he cost less (which makes it easier for PSR).

I don’t think I can face another season of him being the worst striker in the league.

Zirkzee is definitely the easier sell due to the smaller fee paid but we don't seem to be actively pursuing that although that could of course change as we get closer to the end of the window if we are not making headway with selling the outcasts.

My best guess right now is that we will end up with a new striker and for the upcoming season Hojlund will back up whoever that is whilst Zirkzee will back up Cunha and Mbuemo as he seems a better fit in that 10 position. I think both will need to show significant improvements this year if they are not to find themselves transfer listed next summer and I would hope Amorim is not shy about delivering that message.

Agree with this.

Hojlund is not the better fit for anything other than the exit door. No way should he still be here next season.

At this point I believe anyone suggesting Hojlund has any future at all here can't possibly be a United supporter.

Maybe it's just me but I get Lingard vibes from Hojlund. He just doesn't come across as a serious professional. 22 years old, 23 in February but he feels a lot younger than that in the way he carries himself.

Scores a goal for the first time in months but makes sure to get in his silly little "trademark" celebration. Gives interviews about wanting to stay when the club clearly wants to move him on and he's shown nothing to justify another chance in 12 months...

He'd probably look pretty good in Serie A or La Liga but he's happy to continue stinking out the joint at United.

I am confident, that Rasmus will be a lot better if playing with Cunha and Mbeumo behind him and Amad and Dorgu wide. The service will be better and he will score more. We still need an experienced striker though. I can´t believe we haven´t got one in yet. Hopefully Obi will make big steps this season. Zirkzee is a good player, but he is not a striker.,

He’s not lacking because of service. He’s lacking because he’s a rubbish footballer. The new players won’t help him. If anything they’ll just play around him as trying to play football with him causes more chaos than it does positive outcomes. They guy can’t trap a ball or make clever movement.

As they say - the longer you dont kick a ball, the better you get in the eyes of the fan.

Reading posts here suggesting “he will come good” makes me laugh. As if last season didn’t happen. He was always the worst player on the pitch for us in every game he played. This is not about bad form. This is what he is. A bang average striker bought for huge money by clueless twats who had no idea how to run a club.

He needs to be kicked out of here

There was a race for being the worst player last season, and there was lots of candidates. Rasmus was surely one of them. The worst part of his awful season just happened to be the last three months or so, where he was absolutely abysmal. I get you, but it is not black and white. PSG was after Rasmus when we bought him. Inter, Milan and Napoli aren´t fools as well. Rasmus has hit rock bottom and the only way is up. If someone says that he got service last season they cannot have watched the games. I don´t know if he comes good again for us, but he will surely be better with less ego shooter behind him to create opportunities. I haven´t given up on him yet. Do we still need another striker. Yes. We do. We cannot rest our hoppes upon the goals of Zirkzee (who has other qualities) and Obi (whose brother Chuk Obi btw just got into the danish U17 squad).

He was terrible last season. But I feel sorry for him, he wasn't suppose be our starting striker after just playing 1-2 seasons of senior football. I wouldnt be surprise/sad if we sold him but I also do not mind him staying.

I'm anxious of us selling Rashford, Antony and Sancho as I don't see anyway back for them.

He’ll stay and - 20 games into next season - he’ll still be starting every match and he’ll be on 3 goals in all comps. 2 against Woking in the Carabao Cup and 1 which bounced off his shin against Sunderland in the league.

And people will still be saying that he’s not getting the service.

Do we reckon there is a player in there, just his confidence and the lack of supply has just crushed his game, I mean first season he had a few purple patches and definitely showed his potential. I might just be coping but if we added Mbuemo and boosted the rest of the team do we think he might be able to get enough goals and grow in confidence as the season goes.

Definitely, but there's a definite chance it's done irreprable damage to his confidence, so we may never see it. He wouldn't be the first. That being said, sharing the load with Mbuemo, Cunha, Fernandes, Amad, etc could really help with that. The lad is a United fan too, so he desperately wants to succeed here. That counts for something, for me anyway, when we see so many players happy to give feck all effort and pick up their fat wage.

I see him playing FAR better with Cunha and Mbuemo flanking him. Both him and Zirkzee will benefit greatly.

Especially if we bring in another midfielder too.

People writing him off too quickly. Last season was a disaster and the young players were always going to underperform.

That is the one thing completely stopping me from joining the bandwagon and saying get rid, I genuinely think the lad is passionate about the club and has the ability to reach a much higher level, the pressure at this club is insane and I worry that he'll go on to do a Gyokeres in a few years time and be the kind of striker we are scrambling for.
