Huge reliance on Sesko here with the others just there to play out of position on his absence. Maybe just Zirkzee as a true backup. 6/10

It’s actually not bad if Rashford and Dorgu step up off the bench. Hoping big things from Dorgu. I also think Cunha cracks on to become elite this season. 9/10

It’s actually a bit concerning here with Amad injured again. Mbeumo started well last year but hasn’t found his form since AFCON. I have a feeling Bruno may play here with the CM additions. 7/10

No concern here as it’ll be Bruno playing every game. 10/10

Looking super strong now. Mainoo will get better this season I think. Baleba could be hugely important. Especially CL games. Great additions this summer in this one position. 8.5/10

This is a bit of a disgrace. Shaw looks off it and there’s no proper backup. 2/10

A bit better and probably the least of our defensive issues. Dalot will play most games and he’s a solid 6.5/10

Not as bad as LB but pretty bad. 2 of these are injury prone and the others aren’t elite. Maybe Heaven and Yoro step up but they haven’t started together to begin this season so Carrick doesn’t see it.

Lammens is solid and will play every game. He’s a 7/10 for me.

Overall squad rating 7.5/10

Really hoping LB, ST and CB doesn’t ruin our season. It’s frustrating as we’re clearly close. We should have completed the squad this summer but we didn’t go all in with Carrick. Let’s see.

This is funny, was actually discussing this with friends last night, we graded each position based on: "Quality" and "Depth".

My thoughts were something like this:

GK: Quality 7.5 Depth 3 - Really like our keeper, worry about backups

RB: Quality 6 Depth 7.5 - Dalot is very fit, Mazroui is a capable backup

CB: Quality 6 Depth 5 - Enough numbers, but our two best players are injury prone

LB: Quality 5.5 Depth 1 - No proper backup for an aging player with injury history

CM: Quality 7.5 Depth 9 - Very solid group of 5 players who all bring something to the table

LW: Quality 8 Depth 9.5 - Three capable to very good players in this position, who offer something different

RW: Quality 7.5 Depth 8 - Two good options

10: Quality 9.5 Depth 5 - Bruno’s availability provides it's own form of depth

ST: Quality 6.5 Depth 4 - have lots of players who can fill in for Sesko, but none that I feel particularly great about starting a premier league game

That would give us an average of

Quality: 7+
Depth: 5.5
Overall: 6.5

Final score feels a little unfair, reality is we hopefully don't need depth at GK and #10 and we also have great depth in some key areas, but left back and striker could really hurt

I think we’re actually a very settled squad. We could get second. However once City/ Chelsea click with their new signings they will probably be a lot better than us.
