Honestly… with how teams have been turning up at Anfield this season, I can see all 4 Prem teams getting a result. Palace have owned us, Chelsea are direct top 5 rivals right now, Brentford are flying and Fulham are actually in competition with us for some type of Europe. We could not beat a team that is on their third manager this season at Anfield this March.

I’ve even recently been clinging to the hope that Villa win the Europa League and then 6th place could get Champions League next season however I’m not sure we could even hold onto 6th place.

Even at his very best, VVD was just one of numerous excellent defenders and not at all above the rest of the top tier. How much of a fawning worshipper do you have to be in order to claim that anyone is so much better than all other footballers that he transcends the very concept of tiers and is in a unique category of his own? A player whose career has been concurrent with the likes of Messi and Ronaldo? Come on.

It would be a stretch to even place VVD among the 5 best ever PL defenders. At best, he was in the lower half of the top 10 during his brief peak, but he has been absolutely terrible now for about as long as he was good.
