There isn’t enough room on that balcony to do that, everyone wants to be stood in the middle to have a hold of the cup. So you’re left with the ridiculous image of the captain having to squeeze past everyone to get his medal, cup and then lift it.

Either do it the old way, or let them do it on the pitch where there’s space and everyone can see it.
