Ray Wilkins: World class or just a dreary sideways passer?

No doubting the popularity and the kindness of the man therefore I may risk being hung drawn and quartered for the OP title. However myself being a utd fan and experiencing his tenure with us, I always got the feeling he was overrated. Yes he was a footballer with an elegance about him and could spray a mean 35 yard pass, but I always seem to remember him as being a little of a luxury player.

Mainly safety first, I thought he played much better for Chelsea. Scored a worldie against Brighton in the Cup final.

Just because Big Ron said crab passing it doesn't mean he can't create. He has an eye for a pass and a creative player. Has an elegance about the way he plays.

Great player, always classy and had a lot of time on the ball. Very dodgy mullet though.
