Liverpool getting Wirtz
City, Cherki.

What a time
We can’t afford Wirtz but I’d have thought Cherki would have been the perfect fit for our system. But I think we’re targeting PL proven players as we can’t really afford to be starting if slowly and allowing players to adapt to a new league.

€35m with €6m is is an amazing deal for Cherki, who will be 22 at the start of the season.

Why would we pay double for Mbeumo, who is 4 years older, double the cost and who potentially has a lower ceiling than Cherki?
Because Cherki doesn't have any work rate off the ball. Has no real pace or athleticism. Has pissed off teammates with his attitude. Technically very gifted but a mercurial talent who will either suffocate under Guardiola robotic football and demands or will be a hit.

Regardless he isn't want we need this summer.

that is a bad example. Have you seen both play? even if Cherki cant take the physicality of the league his technique is light years ahead of Donnies.

Also add the fact that City generally sell better than us anyway, they will sell him within a year if he doesn't work. VDB lasted 4 years at United, he didn't go on loan until his second year.
No example is perfect, DVDB was named on the Balon d’or. Similar age, similar fee, making a step up to a bigger club.

Am not saying he would have no value, but to suggest he can fail and City can make money on him is a fallacy.

Pure copium.

Because there is no proof yet that Cherki will adapt to the high intensity of the PL.
I noticed in our games vs Lyon he got caught on the ball a lot.
Granted he scored, but we were a shambles defensively.
He may do well for them, but we all thought Grealish would too.

No, the majority here thought Grealish wasnt fit Pep system and would suit United's more.

Strange that we didn't seem interested. Suspect he will be a top quality player for them in the David and Bernardo Silva vein.

I can’t lie. Bernardo Silva for Monaco isn’t the same Bernardo Man City got. Not that I’m bothered, there our rivals.

But for those glazing over him, don’t expect that same player under Pep.

They finished comfortably 3rd in the end last season and are far from getting relegated.
Points deduction punishment is what is being implied here.

We could probably just bring Sancho back into the fold if we want a talented but lazy player with a bad work ethic and shitty attitude.

So he is bascially Gourcuff?

So he is bascially Gourcuff?
Or the next Ben Arfa.

You have to wonder why City had no chance competition for his signature including the ultimate football Pokémon collectors Chelsea.

Lots of scouting reports have said the same thing, hugely talented individual. A maverick mercurial talent. However comes with baggage and a reluctance to do off the ball work.

We're trying to get rid of lazy players like rashford / sancho who can't be bothered off the ball, so why would we want another one?

He was subbed early in the second half against Marseille when Lyon were losing 2-1 and criticized by his manager for only wanting to go one way I.e. forwards.

This guy doesn't run enough to play for Guardiola.. I suspect he will be a flop
I think it's the wrong club for him. You need to build around his strengths and negate his weaknesses as much as possible. I don't think that will happen at City.

Tactical straightjacket like Grealish found.

I think it’s the case that we know ourselves that it’s near impossible to persuade him to come. It’s impossible to sell the ambition of our project when we just hit rock bottom. Even his agent would be smart enough not to use us right now as negotiating tactic because it may piss off other parties. Cherki burned that bridge to PSG last summer, so lesson should be learned. World Cup is next year, and he wanted out, so this time they seem to get thing done swiftly.

On the one hand, has the technical ability and skill in tight spaces and one touch football you’d want in a possession dominant side like City. On the other, as others have mentioned he’s a bit of a mercurial talent who massively lacks intensity and I’m not sure Pep will indulge that

Every tier 1 French sources have reported on Luis Enrique and Campos being massive fans of the player and that he had a video call with Enrique last year and everything ready for him to go to Paris.
And Enrique wants his players to work hard oop. Now the same stuff about Pep directly taking to him has come out.
That's two managers keen to sign him in spite of their football being very much about pressing and intensity.

City’s model is pretty easy, buy everything until you get it right.

Guardiola is playing on easy mode.

I guess the talent massively outweighs those shortcomings and they feel Cherki either has it in him to improve in that regard / they can compensate elsewhere.

I can't fathom how other teams don't seem to be interested in this type of deal. You'd think City being interested would turn up the ears of other clubs, who might have had doubts, that this is a great player. Given how cheap he is, it's hardly a massive gamble that might make others sceptical.

Disgusting the great deals City have gotten for Alt-Nouri and Cherki.
