Rayan Cherki

Slightly concerned the only links are with Liverpool who seem more willing to take a risk on this type of signing. I'm thinking of the Chiesa signing.

I would love it if we took a risk on this guy and absolutely hate it if he went to Liverpool.

Remember when they were close to getting Nabil Fekir who quite a few here are getting mixed up with Cherki.

I’m going to be pissed if we aren’t heavily in for him at that price.

Worst case scenario he’s a perfect Eriksen replacement who can’t start a ton of games because he’s not great off the ball but is a freaky good creator to bring off the bench. Best case scenario he’s the Bruno successor as a main creator lynchpin in the team.

Yeah, he's ambidextrous too so could probably play in both 10 positions which would be great.

Now or in the summer?

Elaborate please, so I can perhaps agree.
I hate that anyone would watch an attacking midfielder moving like that and they are even remotely thinking about whether the player can press and defend.

He's incredible to watch, but seems a real loose cannon. The comparisons to Ben Arfa and Taarabt are apt, I'd also throw in Jay Jay Okacha in there. Immense technical ability, but seemingly lacking the mentality needed to be a top, top player. He's still young though, I'd not write him off just yet. It's not uncommon for players of his skill level to also be a bit hard to deal with though, football history is littered with them. From Garrincha and Best by way of Maradona, Cantona and Gazza etc. A lot of players that get the crowd on their feet also seem to carry a bit of baggage with them. Maybe it's that there's a fine line between genius and insanity thing in effect.

For £22m I think he's well worth a punt for a PL club. He might flop spectacularly, or he might be a new Cantona that finds his place in England and goes up a dozen levels compared to France. What does £22m get you nowadays, especially with a young flair player? I'm sure even if he bombed, a club would be able to recoup most of the fee back as he'd still be young and still have the talent and there's always that hope he'd blossom.

Back when I still played Fifa (23 was the last I played I think) he was always one of the first players I bought in a career run. Him and Musiala, first window.

The guys an insane player. I've heard / read conflicting reports on his attitude issues, so who knows there. If he's seen as a good egg we should definitely be looking at this closely.

How is it a given?
Background, rumours of problems especially within his entourage and the obvious fact that despite his immense talent the closest he's been to leaving was to Fulham last summer. Fulham also complained about the way his entourage dealt with that as well.

Btw Cherki has always been known by everyone, he started playing for Lyon at 16 and has been widely regarded as one of the most talented young players France has ever produced.

I'm a big fan of him btw and do want him here. You only need to go back a couple pages to see that.

You need to ask why being available for £22M, his club being in massive financial difficulty, and the natural talent he has, why no-one seems to want to take the plunge on him.

Well actually no, worst case scenario is he becomes another (albeit cheaper) Sancho.

I mean he’s a different type of player to Sancho entirely. So no, apart from the “oh he might be lazy” mantra I don’t see him becoming another Sancho.

And for the record, 20m on a punt for a super highly talented player is a far different proposition than 75m and a 250k a week contract for that same type talent. The former allows for far more potential “downsides” to be brushed aside because the investment is a fraction of the latter.

The last club that needs a personality like this. Have we not learned anything?

The Lyon owner says that he's a good lad. For €22mn and market rate wages, the upside far outweights the downside. Bargains like this for players like him do not present themselves very often. As long as you don't mess up the wages, should be easy to get rid of immediately should unreconcilable arguments arise in time.

I feel like we need a maverick. In so many of our games, it looks like we're never going to score so having a joker in the pack that has the ability to literally do anything or beat anyone on the ball would be amazing for me. Also, just having a player that does amazing things about 20 times a game would actually bring joy into our lives instead of constantly hate watching this shower. Need an entertainer.

If this club aren't prioritising top professionals with high characters after all this time then feck me.

To be fair, he's hoping to sell him, he's hardly likely to say otherwise.

The highlight reel this week - is that typical for him or did he bring all his tricks out especially to drum up interest at the end of the window?

He's been one of the most talented with a ball since 16; after watching him play a few times, you won't need to watch a highlight reel of his to know what to expect. By talent and technical ability, he should be one of the world's best players. We know a lot more goes into it than that, however. It's very telling that no big clubs are pulling the trigger and taking the punt.

I don't see why the club aren't in for him, the attacking talent at United is the most depleted area of the squad for quality and variation.

The fact that Amad has barely played even a full season for United and is already the best attacker by some distance further signifies how bad the forwards options are being assembled under Erik's nonsensical talent identification tutelage.

Having the likes of Tel, Cherki, Amad and perhaps Garnacho if he's staying is a good mix of players across the 10's with Amad being able to fill in at wingback. Compare it to Rasmus, Anthony and Rashford it's night and day from a technicality standpoint alone.

Great price. Great skill. Great age. Great speed. Something doesnt add up, right? There is a catch, obviously. If teams have 60m for Tel, why dont they have 22m for this chap?

He’s 20m euros… you lot are acting like we are signing some diva for 100m

(Not to mention by many accounts it’s the people around him that aren’t great, not him personally).

Again, if he comes in and is a disaster then you offload him and cut your (minimal) losses. For a club as devoid of quality as we are, turning our nose up at good risk/reward opportunities like this would be stupid

Get this guy. Actually get all the attackers please. Quenda, Tel, Cherki. We'll be cooking in a few years.

Be rid of Casemiro, Sancho and Rashford. That will pay for all three of them and some. If possible loan Mount out and we'll have fixed our wage situation.

The price tag probably shows how badly Lyon want to sell him.

Seems like a Marseille type of transfer ready to happen;

However I don't know his personality & Mainoo with Cherki as our CAMs would be very similar and good.

Exactly. Any player with his kind of talent and skill set without the baggage will cause at least north of 50m.
This is the kind of gamble that we need to take given our financial situation

So people want to get rid of Rashford and replace him with a lad who blows hot and cold, looks great when he's playing for a new contract, has attitude issues and an entourage... ?

He is defensively lazy, rarely capable of playing 90 minutes, won’t follow a tactical plan, has off field issues, and for all his wizardry not much end product mainly because he can’t be bothered to get into the box.

Other than that he’d be a great transfer.
